+++ Ras' New Greens (Ogres and Dwarves) +++

Post by Rasputinii »

Hey. Well I have finally got around to do it! Here are my current conversions and Greens.

Dwarves
I did these when the New dwarves came out as I planned to do a Dwarf army. However I am not doing a dwarf army any more, so they aren't gonna get painted :D. They are for sale if any one is interested in buying them. ;)

Dwarf Lord
This guy is based around the Dwarf Lord on the cover of the 6th Ed book witha slightly norse feel to him. The weapon pictured was the one I began but didn't like. I have a half done hammer head lying about which is intended for him.

Engineer
I wanted a mix between mad Dwarf and 1st World War German here, and I think I pulled it off. The dome thing is am Iron Umbrella, and the details you see on it are on the inside and so when painted one won't see them.

Joanne of Arc
Okay, she aint a Dwarf, but she is also for sale. I have no need for her. She was gonna lead my peasant Bret force, but Iaint doing that army either. Not an overly complicated model or sculpt, but she is quite nice....

Ogres
These guys are going in my Communist themed Ogre army. Hense the hats and beards....

Tyrant - Lennin - WIP
Lennin, my Tyrant. Still WIP. I have yet to finish his Gnoblar and his cloak and some other decorations, but he is comming on well. He has a hammer and cycle, but like true communism the hammer is a treasure chest ;)...

Hunter
He is on a Boar and he has bad hair, and a big spear. Nuff said. Oh, I love this model, I really do :D...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/ ... C02313.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/ ... C02314.jpg

Bone Gutz
Ths is my best unit. I spent alot of time on their various sifferent weapons and poses. I really like this little unit. They are very kool, and a bit mean on the battlefield :D. Good old Bone Gutz (bone because their gut plates are bmade from bone :D)...

There you have it then. Thats everything bar my new Druchii, which I will take some phtotos of later this week.

Thanks,

Ras

lol you like those furry russian hats dont you! i really like your dwarf lord (though they are all good), im absolutley useless with green stuff. I can do some filling and the odd bit here and there, but not half a dwarf (or half an anything for that matter!)

Great work man!

The beard of the middle bonegut looks kinda comical :) (IMO).

It's been a while since I've seen your modelling efforts Ras, and I must say I am amazed at your huge progress in the field of greenstuff handling. Especially on Lennin, absolutely hilarious conversion with the hammer and sickle. There's not that much for me to criticise, apart from this: The left arm on your Engineer, the one holding the pistol, looks a bit thin.

What's that Joan of Arc model made of, by the way. I can recognise some parts from the Greatsword champion, but the rest... Ah, completely mysterious body parts, the hallmark of a succesful conversion ;)

Wow, you are really great at GSing, and you put mine to shame! I must say, i think the best model is Lennin. I think the idea for a communist ogre army is brilliant!

well i do not really tend to use green stuff but i can definately say these are coming along great, i really do like the ogres hats, really does suit your fluff. my favourite model is the joan of arc, shame she wont be in any of your armies. and the unter riding a boar is a great idea, but i do feel sorry for the boar :P

ok after a lot of compliments some evil critic ;)

just joking they looking good,

some things to make better,

I can see als links between green stuff and your surface you modelled on. I can see that the links arn´t smooth, without sanding you will see that terribly while painting.

Some ideas I don´t like, like the umrellar of the dwarf and the shape of his beard, but that personal taste... some thing I dislike most is the enlarging of the original bases with stones... that doesn´t look very professional. Looking at some references artists always try to use base size wit a bit more or less enlargement while crating it ;)

The boar for the ogre is simply a to small mount... I would change that, it looks unnatural. Get a better one or create your own bigger boar.

The sculpturing work on the ogres is simple (adding some basic stuff) but effective to create the theme. The belly plates are a bit to simple and look unfinished. Especially the Lord one looks bad like you sculptured in hurry, that don´t reflekt your other good work here.

Most I like the dwarf, without that umbrellar this could be a very stylish miniature ;) but that´s persoanl taste :)

Good work, go on with that

GeOrc, you are of course completely right.

Sanding, I hadn't thought of that. I have already picked up on the problem of the joins, but haven't figured out a way of dealing with it. Good idea. Thanks :D

Alot of your critique is of a personal nature reguarding Aesthetics, which I guess I can't really somment on apart from saying each to his own!

You are right about the Gut plate on the Tyrant. It does look a bit poor. I should really re-do it, but I just have sooo much to do!

yes how I said, most is personal taste and criticism here can only inspire but in the end it´s on the aritst if he will use this as a reference :)

Further another tip to get better links of GS and surface, sanding is one you should do. But mostly this isn´t enough so You should fill the small gaps with thick colour and sand again and if that´s not enough with wood glue (sorry don´t know the english name for german LEIM)

Hope that helps
