Mengil Manhides Manflyers-conversion

Post by Romanlordofthedruchii »

Last time I've thought that I can do Mengils with Executioners models and green stuff. Before my work I've tested my sculpt skills on 6th edition dwarf warrior. Finally I've made my 2nd work in green stuff and there is my conversion-one of the mengils squad:

looks decent. however i would highly suggest taking these pix and making them links only ;) the mods will get you for it.

I like the way the metal came out...it's good. however i don't really like the cloak...it just doesn't look natural and thin enough.

Thanks for suggestions. I know that the cloak isn't natural but I'd make it better in next mengils models. What do you think abut same conversion? Idea? Orginal models are better but I like Executioners very much and I need Mengils too. Oh and please don't write somenthing about base. I haven't done it becouse I'm waiting at the end of the works with these models. :badh:

well i think that as long as you have an executioner themed army they could work well. still though...the cloak doesn't look too...well fleshy. If you painted it more in a flesh tone maybe make it look like it was stitched together it might look a bit getter.

They are very nicely painted, but they don't scream menghil at me. They just look like exces with cloaks. The convo just doesn't make sense to me, sorry , it just doesn't look right...

I agree with Ras. Very good paint job (and I mean really good), far too simple conversion. He´s an executioner with a cloak and an rxb, not a manflayer. In fact, I don´t think executioners make a good base for converting manflayers at all.
It´s nice to be important, but it´s more important to be nice.

Well I have to disagree - Manflayers wear heavy armour and wield great weapons - this they have in common with vanilla Exec models.
To me it makes a certain amount of sense to use Execs (HA, GW) as a conversion base - just as I could see somebody using Shades (Scouts, RxBs) for it. I like the conversion very much (just as the paint job, well done) - it's genuine and fitting enough to serve as a WYSIWIG representation of Manflayers - and with a little fluff excuse you can just alter their background to explain their "unflayerness".

Nice job, romanlord, I'd really like to see the finished regiment. :)

Nice paintjob en conversion. Though I have to agree with Ras and Mornedhel, doesn't realy look Manflayer like. But a nice conversion never the less!

Q: What are you going to do to convert Mengil himself?

I'm going to do Mengil Manhide models from Tularis(Champion of Executioners from command group). I'm used to read that he doesn't looks like manflayer but I only do my first conversions.
I'd really like to see the finished regiment.

So do I !razz!

First of all, the painting job is great, but I also have to agree with many other that they don't look really manflayer-like and the cloaks don't look natural. However, you said it was your second time wotking with green stuff and these cloaks are great when you realize that you have such little experiance. As for the not-manflayer-looking: An easy way to make them look more manflayer like is to paint their clothes/robes in skin colors. IMO you should leave the cloak somehow green or in camo colors for they are such hard to hit in the game.

Ime gonna join the crowd.
Real nice painting but there is no skirmish feeling about the mini.
The cloak is way to smal. Thats not the sking from a human, thats the skin from a teddy.
------------------------------------------------------
Its not an boring army, it has a defensive magic and shooting theme :-).

Nice paintjob, but they look an awful lot like exes with cloaks.

I'd paint them more 'unique' and completely drape them in skin. Paint the skin fresh with plood and they will have a more manflayer feel.

As amazing as the paintjob is I'm going to have to agree that they do not scream "Manflayer" at me. Still, good work.

Beat that dead horse good.......

I don't think the gallery votes actually have any purpose. I've never noticed a way to actaulyl vote to be honest.

i think you shoudl try to paint them less executionerlike

the conversion you made looks like a regular executioner, with a cloak and xxbow, but i think that is mainly because he is painted like nearly all executioners are painted, maybe if you give him some darker tones, less silver, gold and shiny chainmail

remember they are scouts and like to work under cover of darkness, so they dont want to be flashing whenever the moonlight or some other source of light falls on thier armor

if you think ofcourse that you wont be playing them in your army under the name of manghil manflayers, you could justify their looks, but thats a whole other story, but then you should say that you use the manflayers rules for one of your fluffunits, and ofcourse post the fluff so we can say wether the models fits it or not.

anyway, if you would have taken a lessordinary executioner model ( the champion) it would have been a decent nobleconversion and i will probably try to use your idea for my nobel, so thx for the idea

Painting is very good indeed.. *keeps repeating*

but I really don't understand why you don't use the original manflayer-models. They're just stunning... Perhaps you better convert them??? Anyhow, I am very curious to see the unit as a whole...

Probably I'd buy orginal models  and I'll complete executioners regiment. A few executioners will have cloaks ::P:

I understand why you want execs as mengil manflayers, theyare gorgeus.
But I cant see bigdifference between yours and an exec sorry.
I think you should go for the original, and with your painting skills, you could makethem look good :O
