Chaos Dwarfs - UPDATED 17/08 - Hobgoblins

Post by Xizor »

Hey,

Well Im getting back into the swing of painting atlast, so you can expect regular photos from me...maybe youll notice and increase in my photoshop'ing skills aswell!

Anyhow, here is the Sorceror Lord Lammasu for my Chaos Dwarfs, complete with his Lollipop of DOOM.

I am moderately pleased with how this came out - The Lammasu is cool, but the Sorceror just seems a bit, um boring. I didnt want any nasty 5th ed Style bright colours on him, so afte rmuch debate I settled with the graveyard earth / kommando khaki mix. Not sure on my conversion either! I love my idea for the basing...as it happens painting lava is harder than I had banked on, but oh well, the whole army like that will look good. Shame it'll take forever to do!

Ok, the photos...

I don't like horns. The paint is imposed too thickly and you should dilute your paint more. The idea and paintjob is preety good. I hope to see finished model and army

 Woah...that's just amazing. I really love it, even though before now I've despised the model. The colourscheme is great, and well pulled off (might try it for one of my manticores actually) and the base is very, very nice. Can't wait to see the rest of the army!

I'm sure that the basing will make you're army stand out! BUT it's gonna take a long long long time to finish it :)
I only have sometrouble with the head, but that's more modelwise then you're paintwork.

Keep you're work up! The colours look exellent right now.

Looks great; the base is superb, really Chaos Dwarf feel to it, and the colours work well on the Lammasu. Almost tempts me into picking one up myself (except it would end up unpainted and friendless at the back of my 'must do' pile).

Nice work mate, the more dull conservative colours look much better than the glare of the 5th so nothing to worry about there, looking forward to seeing more of them. Though out of intrest where did you get the minis from?

Yay Big HATS! I do love a Big Hat! Not too shabby Christoph! To too bad at all. Liking the Giant CD head monster (some call it a Lamasu, I call it a Giant CD head on a Lama). Looking forward to seeing the rest of the army (although I have limited interest in playing against it)...
Pleased to be back

a dwarf with a mount of some kind..

and great colors, but I must say that the other wand (not the lollipop) look a bit boring. You could have att least inked those skulls, right now they look very plain (for a lack of better word).

The mount-thignie look good, great color scheme and all.

I'm waiting eagerly to see the rest of the army.

I really like the Lammasu, nice color scheme and the base is really good!
The sorcerer is nice too, but I really don't like the 'Lollipop' he's wielding, is that the dark mace?
The idea is good though I think it is too big.......

Hey,

Ok reply time;

seanzala / Deathwing - Cheers, Im well happy with the basing now :)

romanlordofthedruchii - I actually use a lot of water to dilute my paints, but as this is a common criticism of my work I am planning to invest in a decent thinner. Also, Im crap at painting bone! Thanks for the good reply.

The Liger - Thanks man, a very kind reply! I agree the model is slightly dodgy, but Im pleased with my paint job and that people can look past the weirdness of the beast! The colour scheme for the Lammasus scheme is easy, its just Chaos Black -> Red Gore -> Bleached Bone. Though there are alot of stages going through those 3 colours (obv adding lighter as you go!)

devils reject - The whole army will be based like that, never mind monsters!

Kergoth - Tell me about it...the models take a silly ammount of time to base. Worth it IMO though.

Amarel - Thanks buddy. Mine cost me a hefty £19, though days later one went for a mere £1.20 - gutted!

Deathwing - The Lollypop is made from a crystal bead that I pilfered from my Girlfriends dad's chandolier. The haft of the weapon is made from a prong from my Girlfriends whisk (pilfered again...that utensil has lost half its prongs now, i use them loads in modelling...she still hasnt noticed though!). The banners are from Greenstuff.

Prince Cal - Cheers mate. I am now very happy with my choice of colours, they work well on the warriors too. As you said, avoiding the brightness of 5th ed is certainly a good thing. As for the models, I have got some from Ant, the ones I can via Mail Order (as its ALOT cheaper for me), the rest will be sourced from eBay for far too much money...like this one!

RasputinII - Yeah yeah...you hate my army lol ;) Glad your liking the model though man!

the Watcher - I agree, I should do something more with those skulls, but Im not going to as that is how I paint bone, and will paint bone over the whole army, so having some random parts inked will be odd...for me anyway. Ill just live with it!

Lamekh - TBH man, I agree...his weapon is a little oversized, but hell, its different and gets the point accross...its is the Dark Lollypop of Death afterall. Glad you like the rest of it though!

Anyway, heres some progress. I am happy with how these very static models turned out and reckon they are gonna look awesome as a unit, though ranking up may prove a problem! I need to get some transfers or something for the shields though as they are a little plain atm..

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b328/ ... riors1.jpg

*I am putting new photos in the post where I say about them, but also adding them to the top list of photos...if that makes sense*

More comments please. Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers (minus crew) coming next.

Now these I really like!
Nice dark color scheme and again a great base!
But why only four on the base?
Btw what will you be using as Hobgobbos?

I can see a horde of big hats coming..

But yeah, them warriors look good but theyr shields look abit plain to me.

Other than that I can't say anything helpfull so I just shut up now.
And I like the axe blades :D

Looking good so far, but yeah, maybe put something on the shields. I don't mind them now, but they look a tad plain.

Hurray for big hats! Great stuff there, I really like the bases.

How about painting bulls on the shields, eh? If you can't paint bulls, I think there was some nice bull transfers in the bretonnia boxes you could use.

Waiting for more updates.

yeah, cool! they look very good, and with all your talk about CD´s I now somehow feel the urge to get me some of the evil stunties myself...

as for the shields: you could use regular shields and "modify" them to CD-shields?

Great work. Really love the base. I would humbly suggest hitting the final copy with some Testors dullcoat to bring down that gloss effect. Plus, it tends to bring the shadows out a bit more and gives the mini overall better contrast.

Hey,

Well I get home very late on a tues (after running the vets night then having to catch a train home) so not getting much painting done tonight...though im determined to do some.

Thanks for more replies;

Lamekh - There is only 4 on the base as it is an 80mm regiment base designed to fit 4 models on it! For the Hobgoblins I am using the old Sneaky Git models as I was able to obtain this via GW mail order cheaply.

the Watcher / seanzala - As I said, the shields for defo are a bit plain, but this is something I'll rectify. Im getting the old CD book soon so maybe that will inspire me.

NeonDestroyer - Thanks man. I'll have to look into that as that is certainly a possibility. The other thing im thinking of is making a small stencil out of some of the iconography from the old CD book (when i get it) and using that as a basis, not sure how this will work though tbh.

Ant - haha! Cheers man...please tell me you were not responsible for them though? I have just out the Earthshaker in Dettol so will hopefully have him done soon (shame as I liked your paint job on it). The rest of the warriors will have to wait untill next week as I have mail ordered the shields for them (along with some Bull Centaurs ;)). Any chance of seeing some pics of your stuff?

mousekiller - Thankyou :) The gloss effect is a little annoying, but its only due to it being 2am, me being drunk and spraying the satin varnish a little too close! It doesnt look bad though IMO

Cheers people

I was responsible for all but the luminous green one (my sister did that abomination!). But I was only about 12 at the time.

Any chance of seeing some pics of your stuff?

I'll do my best to get my Dad onto it at the weekend, as well as my Druchii and as much other stuff as I can before he loses interest. So with a bit of luck they'll be loads of pics of my armies on the site by Monday.
