Pic's of my first Painted men.

Post by Tarthar »

I've started painting Dark Elves here a month ago, first time i paint ever.
It's not the best camera im taking the pic's with, if the models looks like they got a thick layer of painting, then dont mind it, its the camera facking up. Hope you can see the details and tell me what you think about it

Cold one Knight, without Base (gonna make it soon..laul)

Looks nice to me, and yeah, the paint indeed looks thick on the pictures.

I assume you did thin your paint?

My advice would be to go over the Gold a few more times, and maybe from now on undercoat the gold with brown. It really helps.

Freehands look nice, keep them coming!

On the CoK I'd advice a thin layer of Black Ink over the teeth to make the details come out more.

More highlights would also compliment the models. Start by mixing Liche Purple with some white, and paint it on the edge of the CoK's lance-banner-thing. I use the side of my brush for this kind of edges, as it's easyer to keep the brush on top of the edge that way.

Thanks, well i can promise you the layer aint thick :)
but the reson it might look a bit akward on some of the men is cause of their repainted....might make it look bit more stupid but i must admite im a bit proud of them since their sort of my first paintet men.

btw maybe its cause of the bad camera but ive already done the highlights on the lance on the CoK, first gave it a 1:1 liche purp/chaos black then black ink too the middle and then liche purp for the sides...sooo take a good look and i hope you will see it, done the same on the Warriors and Executioners.

Please, Keep it comming!!! ;)

Not all people paint that nice when they start painting.
While I really like the overall look of your models, I kind of dislike you cold one knight: IMHO you should'nt have painted the scales on the co's back like the armour and should have used more colours for the teeth and claws.
Your other models look really nice, but, like Tijminator, I would recommend some more highlights.

WOW! they were better than my models when i started to paint, but now im a GW painter, i don't work for GW but i work in a store of there's so that gotta be good for something right (Telling people off, for looking to hard at the models :P)
Down the track you will get better painting tips and you will eventually be able to paint even better than before.

The missing highlights I was talking about are the cold ones teeth and claws and the face of the exexutioner musician.

For the face I would recommend the painting faq:

GW made a nice guide for painting teeth (they show it on a squig, but that shouldn't matter):

Well spotted Dezmord, I was searching for that link. This method of painting horns and teeth etc may seem time consuming and tricky particularly on teeth but you soon get used to it and the effect is so much better, just remember to thin down the paint layers.
