Chaos Space Marine Artwork

Post by Draknir »

I just drew this the other day and wanted to hear some feedback, it is a Chaos Space Marine Lord. It is supposed to be Khornate but the only thing that tells so is the badly-drawn chainaxe... but tell me what do you think.

Very nice Drak! I like the horn growing out of his forehead, and you have done a very good Chaos backpack there. To my mind, he looks more like a Black Legion Chosen, with his dark armour and the sharp markings.
All in all, a well-done piece. CSM are my favourite army of all the GW models, so I was happy to see a picture of them!

I think the axe could do with being bigger but apart from that it's as good a picture as I have ever seen. Nice job.

Yes, I thought myself that there was something wrong with the axe, and the thing that it is lacking is impressiveness.

Change the angle of the axe. With this perspective it looks like it was very small. If you watch an axe from up to down (like this) it looks thin and small but if you turn from a 3/4 point of view it will look mooore impressive. Try with your own axe (because everybody has its own axe  ).

Looks great Draknir, only thing I would suggest is make the Axe bigger.

Yes, enough of the axe. I'll try to change it.

You could also try working on the axes fore-shortening. That would make it more believable.

Here's another one, a Slaaneshi Aspiring Champion:

Both very good though I prefer the slaneshi (wheres his back pack by the way?) I dont think its as good as your Druchii art but its still very impressive.

Oh and the Khornate lords axe could be bigger :D
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

It's okay, but you definitely need some darker pencils. Try at least a 6B for shading.
Count them:

Painted in 2013: 500
Painted in 2014: 600
Painted in 2015: 854

I darkened the Slaaneshi champion a bit with a softer pencil. 5B was the darkest I could found from my drawers.

I am not going to change the axe of the Lord. The pencil lead would only mess up the paper if I would wipe it..
