Malus Darkblade Joins the Soulcrushers...

Post by Lion of flanders »

Hey All:

Here's a shot of a Malus Darkblade figure that I painted to pay off a gambling debt. :D

(Not really, but it was a commision job)

Very nice. Love the unified color scheme.

I dont know what to make of the mini. Its a a beautiful paint job. But everything is way too violet. Theres not enough contrast IMO. That said, this is well beyond anything I can accomplish.

Very well painted, but I would consider the skin colour a mistake. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer 50/50 elf flesh/skull white to pale gray skin. The pale skin makes it look sinister, but too ghost-like for my taste.

That looks really good! I like the violet colour scheme, sort of like the standard 'eavy metal colour scheme, but with a twist.

Well painted and good scheme!

I like it, and your command of shading with what seems like blending is indisputably excellent. I wouldn't be opposed to slightly less purple, but I really do like it as is, too. I need to get one of those models.

On sec..thi...fourth look I figured out what it is - the skin seems purple, probably just from ambient reflections though, and the hair is purple. If the skin (perhaps just photo) were more towards grey and/or hair as well... ::shrug:: It's still awesome.

Hi,
Nice job you've done there. Do you know the GW code for that model, so I can order the figure myself please?

I have a feeling its the camera's fault.

Can you make a few more pictures Lion?

I'm afraid it was not on general release. It was a limited edition figure only availible for a short period. You can still get hold of it from ebay. Watch out for re-cast rip offs though.

Speaking as the person who has the original in their keeping, I can confirm that the photograph makes the figure look far more purple than it is in real life and washes out a lot of the contrast & fine detail.

You jammy git. :)

Really nice job there Lion. I'd like to see some more pictures that more closely match the colours used. Perhaps Heldrak could provide some?

Is it the same colur scheme as the Soulcrushers?

Cheers

Hey All:

Thanks for the compliments. If I am good at painting miniatures, I'm near worthless at taking photos of them.

The figure is done the same as all of my DE, with grey skin (codex+elf flesh) and purple clothes. My photo over-purples everything somehow. The hair is highlighted with shadow grey, which has a blueish hue, so that might add to the problem.

Anyway, as Heldrak wrote...Malus isn't quite so purple as he seems.

Always a pleasure to see your stuff man. Great as always, I like how you use the diamond shapes on the clothing, it's just insane that you got them on most(if not all?) of your DE models.

Would like to see more stuff from you more often. :)

Thanks! I haven't painted anything in about a year. I moved, and basically it took me months to get off my rear and get my hobby room set up. Eventually, Heldrak happened to have some stuff I was looking for and I traded him for a paint job on ol' Malus. Anyway...it got me going again!

No DE for a while though, I'm working on Empire (they get checker patterns, as opposed to diamonds :D )

cool.
Nice blending on the purple clothing.
Try to use a white sheet of paper as Background for your Photos and let the camera see a bit of this. Use daylight and/or daylight lamps to avoid colorchanging.

Only if they’re painted by Lion :)

I have the Malus on foot (painted by me and not a patch on the one you now have) and have seen the Witchelves and Malekith (If you ever feel the need to sell them please do drop me a line)

Cheers

<edit> Jammy = lucky in this case getting a rare miniature painted for you by Lion of Flanders.
