Draknir's Miscellaneous Projects (Lots of pics)

Post by Draknir »

Scouring through my photo albums, I found many pictures I have intended to show but never got up to it, (mainly because their crappy quality) I decided to make a thread of my Recent or Less Recent Miscellaneous Projects.

Draknir Reaverblade in all his blood-armoured glory, as he appears on tabletop:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194025965

Pic of my rather modest army:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026029

Cold One Knights:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026160

Shades:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026182

Orc Battleship in prowess: (Some may remember my Reaver ship I made a while ago, I am referred to as "Shipmaster" within my friends- I like making ships.)
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026209

Leopold Helstrom, Empire General:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026299

Tzeentch Monolith:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... 1194026354

As you can see, these are really miscellaneous. And many of them are old, the Monolith being the newest. I will propably continue adding new pics of my Miscellaneous Projects to this thread, as soon as I get photos of them. Let's see what will propably come next...

To the day I have painted the Orc ship and added a suitably tattered sail to it. I have also based my army fully.

I have converted a model for Naghlir, the paranoiac renegade sorcerer from my NC background stories (And he looks great!)

I have begun a small Tzeentchian Chaos Army with the theme being freezing goldness and ice. My first unit of Warriors has been readied and I have also two of the new Spawn and a converted Chaos Sorcerer.

To explain the randomness of my jobs a bit, is because the Empire General and the Orc ship are models I made and painted for my beloved *cough* annoying *cough* little brothers. I begun the Tzeentchians because I'm waiting desperately for the new Druchii next year, and thus dare not to purchase any of their model range fearing for what will be renewed.

I am also planning to start Vampire Counts whenever their new edition hits the shelves, and for those who like my ships, I am also planning to make a large Ghost Ship, in an attempt to beat Chad Mierzva's gothic cathedral ship from General's Compendium. If I make the Ghost Ship, a proper guide of it's making will appear here.

So, stay tuned...

I like the Draknir Reaverblade model a lot. A simple but effective conversion idea that I may shamelessly steal.

Tzeentch Chaos pics:

Sorcerer:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1638.jpg

Warriors:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1633.jpg

Close-ups on the command group:
Champ: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1634.jpg
Std: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1636.jpg
Musician: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1637.jpg

Bob & Charlie, the Hellborn Spawns
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1642.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1643.jpg

The sorcerer is built from an Empire Wizard and the leftovers of the spawn kit, and the bits have also been added to the champion and the std. The models still need to be based (snow bases for all) and the yellow details could be tidied up a bit, but...

Then to druchii:

Naghlír, the paranoiac sorcerer:

Another side: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1649.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1639.jpg

(Psst: A cookie to anyone who knows where Naghlir's head is from! It's not from GS, I can sure you of that!)

Cold One Chariot:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1646.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... G_1645.jpg

The orc Ship, painted, but I'm not fond on the paintwork of this one though :?

Very nice paintjobs. :)

But the Tzeentch Sorcerer and the spawns don't have enough contrast IMHO. I'm not suggesting a flower-power army, but a little more colours would do wonders.

It could just be the pictures though, they were quite dark.

I like the Druchii colour scheme a lot. I've commented on the Chaos in another thread (at least I have a vague memory of doing that :P). And the Draknir model is a simple but great looking conversion! I love it :D Great work :)

Btw. what colours did you use on the skin of the elves to get the blue/grey tone?

I am surprised how good the Draknir model is in your opinion. Maybe that pic is crappy enough to hide it's worst parts... which is actually a perfect pic, then ;)

The elves' skin is merely a white drybrush on a codex grey basecoat, and then a wash of grey/black, depeding on which unit I've used to experiment.

Oh, to mention what's coming next:

I have started working on the big Ghost Ship. Problems with getting mast material, but keep on waiting, I'll get the pictures here whenever I am a bit further...

Tzeentchian Marauders converted from Flagellants coming after Christmas.

Any criticism about the former pieces are still very welcome.

PS: Guesses on the origin of Naghlír's head? It is not made from greenstuff, it is from a WHFB model, the ponytail is added afterwards... no more hints...

Ah... Undead. Upon seeing the sneak peeks on the new, awe-inspiring Vampire Counts, I decisively began to work on a Ghost Ship, a very interesting project.

Watching the picture of this I can't help thinking 'how can someone like Chad Mierzwa do something like that?' Just look at it, that kind of thing could never float if it was real. I wanted to have a more Flying Dutchman -type of approach. I think that if I'm going to make a ship, darn it looks like a ship then.

Enough grumbling, I start with my guide on the making of the Hangman's Pride.

I first bought a Fortified Manor kit, knowing that it's components could prove useful. All the windows and statues...

The hull was carved from polyurethane foam, 8 cm thick. It was added some cardboard to cover the worst holes made to the foam when cutting it to shape.

I added some components from the Manor kit, as the stern's details were built by cutting the Chapel roof ends and added a couple of lanterns

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip002.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip006.jpg

Next, I used cardboard and toothpicks to create the prow and the railings. (ain't my desk soooo clean and tidy?)

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip014.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip013.jpg

Masts are shaped and sanded dowel rods. Holes were drilled to the deck before puhing their sharpened ends to the foam- I did not glue them to place yet, for priming the ship will be easier with removable masts.
Image
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip025.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip023.jpg

Sails are made from thin gauze, torn and cut to be more ragged. They will be coloured more grey later.

Image
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip032.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip028.jpg

The helm is made from a broken wheel I cut from the barricades sprue that came with the manor... I cut small pieces of toothpicks and glued them to the wheel.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... hip034.jpg

I will paint the ship later, but tell me your thoughts on this one. Each comment is very welcome.

Sorry because my desk is so messy...

For Christmas i got a Chaos Marauder kit and Flagellants regiment, and I have converted some robed Tzeenthians- with my motto being 'more religious zealot, less professional wrestler.' I don't have pics of them yet, but instead I have mounted the old Sorcerer on a self-made Disc of Tzeentch.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... mer009.jpg

I also made a standard-bearing Aspiring Champion from Flagellant and Marauder parts.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... mer004.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... mer005.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t252 ... mer008.jpg

The Ghost Ship's primer is drying at the moment, I will post up pictures of it later.

Comments on the Chaos champions?

Nice. Lost own eyes, now sees with the Eye of Change. Banner: borders need to be straight, the design is excellent. Near turned into a five assed frog just looking at it.

Borders need to be straight? Why's that? We're talking about the Great Mutator here, His banners can take certain liberties. And as I've bent the banner (which is made from paper) it warps straight lines by itself. And currently, the borders are straighter than Slaaneshi worshippers. ;)

My reasons aren't particularly good - just, if the edges of the banner are straight, then the borders should be. Or if the edges aren't straight, then the borders should follow them. Because, if they're not, I get neatness rage. My mother is a quilter, you see...

What should I add to the base? The army is supposed to have snow bases...

You can ignore my banner straightness complaint. I have to make things straight, to prevent aural bleeding. Which is the sort of thing Tzeentch likes to cause.

As to your base, you could put a pile of agonised, mutated, something or other there.

It is good work though.

What's coming out in the near future- Gorbad Ironclaw? The model is my little brother's, but he asked if I could paint it for him and how can I say no when I can get my hands on such awesome model?

love the ship and necro, given me some ideas of my own. For the ship it might be a nice touch to add some barnicles, rot and moss. just to add to the feeling that it has been drifting through the seas for years and years
