The new Chariot
Well our new chariots are losing their beloved 2-for-1 Special slot status which makes me sad. But now instead of it doing a potential 11 wounds on impact it can do 13. Are we ever going to see chariots on the field again? My personal oppinion is a resounding "no" but is there anything they could do to make it viable again?

There will be room for chariots as mounts and MAYBE one in an army... as for bring 2-4 like I do on a daily basis, the good days have passed!

People still use equivalent chariots in other armies, so I'd say, yeah, they'll always have a place. I might even still use my 3 chariot 2K army, depending on what the special slot competition is like in the new book. They are one of the cheapest units for their damage potential and one of the most versatile, so no, I don't think they've going away tactically.

I don't think that I'll remove my chariots they help a lot and provide a lot of mobility. I think that they will still be good and maybe better than now since the Cold One will probably get stronger.
Also, the new HE still have people using their chariots and win so I'm sure that all we have to do is be careful with S7+ attacks and we'll be fine.

I agree with everyone here, there will be chariots. Especcially in my army, as I almost always face HE. Maybe there will be less chariots, but I think there always will be one or two in an army. They are just nice.

But chariots will supposedly be competing with 4 attack on the charge witch elves and 2 attack on the charge auto wounding executioners... Not to mention the necesity of atleast 1 unit of shades and/or harpies.
Its going to be very interesting!

Crawd : Yes, HE are still using chariots to great effect, but they have 6 special choices. We might get something like that, as Gav has hinted, but then, chariots might find themselves competing with all those units Azure mentioned, and Dark Riders too. So it's almost certainly the end of the line for 4-chariot 2K armies, unless maybe chariots could be taken as a no-slot character mount or something.

I never said that it will be easy to fit in, but I'm sure that they'll be competitive. Don't forget that they are good to soak up some damage with it T5 right now. I agree that for now I'm a bit screwed because I'm using 2 Chariots, 1 unit of Harpies, 1 unit of Cold One Knight and 1 unit of Witch Elves but maybe the Harpies will become core and won't count in the minimum count.
We'll see when we'll get some confirmations.

A chariot as a mount is a nice option now... 3 + attacks from noble/highborn, 1 attack from crew member and 4 cold one attacks...all at at least Str 4. All after a potential 7 impact hits...I cant knock that....
It also provides a nice boost to the old AS.
Its always going to be a nice mount option...a lovely mount option.

I agree : it won't be easy to fit. I say it would be the end of 4-chariot armies, whereas your two would still have a place. I think the earlier posters who are saying no more chariots are overreacting. Even the rumoured changes to Execs won't necessarily see them outcompete for a place. Chariots will still have the advantage of impact hits, and as such will feature in most tourney lists - whereas Executioners are likely to go on being vulnerable against shooting and getting struck first, and so will be always something of a liability in tournaments. Black Gaurd may go to Special : but they'll have the same problem.

Yeah, but think about the cost for units like that - even small ones (which would be vulnerable to shooting). The chariot is extremely cost effective. Used in a pair, they are the most destructive and cost effective unit out there, likely in the entire game. I've had a chariot in one game collect 800 VPS (and live) in units destroyed and banners and I've had two go through a unit of rhinox riders. Every unit in the game should fear the chariot and the only thing they really have to fear is S7. Highly resilient with exceptional damage potential with a cost cheaper than most units of dark riders.

Oh without a doubt vorchild but the problem is you are buying a unit that:
A. Is slower until the charge
B. Stupid
C. Is a huge target for high strength attacks while elves are not IE going up against that cannon line is a lot worse when they have something to shoot at.
I'm not saying they are going to be obsolete. I just dont see taking more than 2 and 1 of those having a noble.
IE My special choices will probably end up with a noble on chariot, another chariot to tandem with the first, a unit of harpies, maybe witches or exes and then a unit of CoK as they are supposedly getting a huge upgrade!

Yeah, but these are all problems we live with now and did before the revision (when they were 1 for 1) and they were still useful then and now. For sure, we'll see them less with the special slot competition, but I think after people get over the novelty of whatever may come to pass, they'll go back to the chariot at least from time to time.
But you're right, more than 2 would likely be overkill. That being said, having 8 (which I've done) is also overkill.

I guess I might not ever get to do so, now.
Though I own 6 ( couldn't justify the cost either, but apparently that still didn't stop me - silly decisions when I look back on it), I have some nice friends who lent me a couple others (not DE) to use as proxies for fun games. Its worth a shot, just to check it out. The required stupidity tests are absolutely absurd, mind you, and it makes the tactics challenging to say the least (perhaps frustrating is the better word).

Well our current lists pretty much need chariots to compete with the HE ASF. Though we may lose the effectiveness of bringing our chariots in bulk in the new army book, there should be many other things we can do to beat those pesky High Elves when our revision comes about.
