2250 Dark Elf Pirate army. opinions please

Post by Colinsherlow »

Alright guys and gals I would love some advice and opinions on what you think of this list.
I want a themed army so I'm looking for a mostly corsair theme here. i know the force doesn't pack a hard punch, but i think it looks pretty solid.
Note that i love the character behinde Lokhir Fellheart and 'The Tower of Blessed Dread' so i included him in my force.

HEROE'S
Lokhir Fellheart. 250pts

Master w/ BSB, Great Weapon, Armour or Darkness, Ring of Hotek. 159pts

Sorceress lvl2 w/ Dispel Scroll, Darkstar cloak 185pts

CORE
23 Black Ark Corsairs w/ 2 weapons, full command w/ the Banner of Murder-(piercing attacks for the unit.) Lokhir is in this unit. 280pts

23 Black Ark Corsairs w/ 2 weapons, full command w/ Warbanner. Master with BSB is in the unit. 280pts

17 Black Ark Corsairs w/ 2 weapons, full command. Reaver with 2 repeater pistols. (sorceress in this unit) 198pts
Assassin w/ 2 weapons, Touch of Death, Rune of Khain. 151pts

10 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen. 100pot

5 Dark Riders w/ Repeater Crossbows, spear light armour, shield and musician. 122pts

SPECIAL
5 Shades w/ Repeater Crossbows, Great Weapons. 90pts

5 Shades w/ Repeater Crossbows. 80pts

5 Cold One Knights w/ Dreadknight. 155pts

RARE
2 Reaper Bolt Throwers. 200pts

This is a breakdown of what some of the units do starting from top to bottom.

Lokhir Fellheart is joining the Corsair unit with the Banner of Murder to make his impressive number attacks (because of the red blades) and his unit armour peircing so they can actually chop through armour pretty nicely. he confirs a -2 armour save. good considering he'll probably have 6+ attacks with re-rolls to hit and to wound.

The BsB Master is with the other corsair unit to give the unit an additional point of combat rez. that combined with the units banner/warbanner and his own add +3. plus ranks. he also has a great weapon to do some extra good killing and a great 1+ armour save. also the Rink of Hotek will protect my army from most of the hostile magic.

the Sorceress is in the small corsair unit so that she and her unit looks vunerable and so when they get charged the assassin pops out with lots of poisioned attacks (3+1 ext wpn+D3 for Rune of Kaine) and striking first, re-rolling the hits because of hatred and killing lots. He also hase killing blow which is good for everything.
also the sorceress is there mostly for a little more magic protection and some spell casting. with the Darkstar Cloak and the Power of Darkness spell she should be able to get a couple of spells through.

The Crossbowmen are pretty straight forward. find a good firing spot with the Reaper Bolt Throwers and shoot flanking units and things that i'm scared of.

Dark Riders and there to annoy the enemy's flank, re-direct charges and deny them movement.

The shades do a little bit of everything. shoot. deny marches, and just be a pain in the ars.

The Cold One Knight are just to give my force some good shock troops and flank chargers if they survive long enough. I wanted the unit to stay cheap so i only gave them a dreadknight. putting a banner in the unit would make the unit too many points and also give the enemy a easy 100VP's for capturing the banner.

Note: the army has around 100 models so I'm thinking the enemy might not suspect that there is an assassin in the force because my army is quite large compared to most elf forces. and I'm thinking the enemy will most likely think the assassin is in Lokhir's unit to put real good use to his Merciless Slaver rule (enemy units destroyed and caught my Lokhir are with double VP's.)

let me know what you think ,and if you believe i should make any changes to the army?.. thank you for taking the time to read this and for the opinions and advice

You don't have harpies or DR in the list so you won't be doing a lot of march blocking.

The BSB is better off mounted and not commited to a unit. so he can if he needs move.

The sorc I would put in in the unit of RXB and drop the third corsair unit for more RXB and a harpy unit or two.

2 lvls of magic are not going to do much. make her a lvl 3 with the familiar and the pendant for more fun.

Hey All!
I actually like the design of this army!
It's theme is consistant and represents IMO what a Dark Elf pirate army would comprise of.
Harpies aren't needed as I don't think they really fit in with the theme.
Nice list mate!
You can take your vamp lord on zombie dragon, 48 graveguard, blackcoach, 3 wraiths, 2 units of dogs and your 3 units of 10 piddly zombies and shove them up your f&$%ing a$$.....

The third unit of corsair can be made a small shooting unit of corsairs: 105pts with only the muso.
There you have the cheap baiting unit to harass the enemy, and fluff-wise it is outstanding.
You still can put the assassin and the sorceress in it, as the sorceress is more a scroll caddy and she could move away if your unit is threatenend to be charged.

By the way, I love these themed armies!

I'd love to play against your army. It would look good on the table. But at a tournament you'd be hard pressed to win due to all these infantry blocks.

The list looks good and fluffy, (not sure about the harpies either, or the Cold One Knights, But you need some heavy hitters)
I find that one sorceress isn't going to do much alone. She either needs another Sorceress to help her, or no sorcresses at all.

thank's guys! the more opinions the better. i don't mind droping the sorceress to a level 1, but i think with the power of darkenss spell and the darkstar cloak she can actually make up for the lack of magic in the army. if not i can alway make her a lvl 1 and take 2 dispell scrolls and give the assassin black lotus. I just figured she's be pretty decient at casting with so many power dice.
maybe not though.
I don't have harpies because they don't fit with the list. i only have one unit of dark riders, but they should still do there job as fast cav. if i didn't have Lokhir Fellheart i'd have another Master with the Pendent of
Khaeleth and the Soul Render with armour. then i would have soome points left for another unit of Dark Riders if i did a little shuffeling of the list.
I do love the list though as it seems quite fluffy and somewhat competive

So I figured i'd make a few changes to the list. let me know what you think of the changes. I was considering of making the small corsair unit a 10man, but i decided not to because that's alot of points to sink in a unit guarding a sorceress and an assassin. i want them the unit to seem a little more vunerable then the other two corsair units.
anyways. here's the new list

Lokhir Fellheart. 250pts

Master w/ BSB, Great Weapon, Armour or Darkness, Ring of Hotek. 159pts

Sorceress lvl1 w/ 2 Dispel Scrolls, 150pts

Assassin w/ 2 weapons, Touch of Death, Rune of Khain, Black Lotus 171pts

10 Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen. 100pot

5 Dark Riders w/ Repeater Crossbows, spear light armour, musician. 117pts

5 Dark Riders w/ Repeater Crossbows, spear light armour, musician. 117pts

SPECIAL
5 Shades w/ Repeater Crossbows, Great Weapons. Bloodshade, 108pts

5 Shades w/ Repeater Crossbows. Great Weapons, Bloodshade. 108pts

RARE
2 Reaper Bolt Throwers. 200pts

The army list is 2248points. I think this list still hits pretty alright even considering i Lost the Cold One's. because i gained bloodshades, more great weapons in the shade units and I have a little more shooting and flanking units to tie the opponent down in the form of Dark Riders.

This list doesn't really 'hit' at all but I like it because it is very fluffy and should be fun to play. Why not take the Sea Serpent Standard? The extra attacks and ITP could be helpful. It's good to see someone trying to make an army with no Hydra, Dragon, Black Guard etc.

It's the best pirate army I have seen. But do you think Lokhir is worth it? For the points you could get a tooled up Dreadlord. But the history around Lokhir is great.

See serpent standard on the BSB unit could be fun. Against heavy armoured foes you should try to maximise the RBTs. But then again pirates arent suposed to attack heavy garnisons, but small willages and seapeapole.

At First I didn't think Lokhir was worth, but after looking at him and his special rules he really comes into his own. he would be amazing in a unit of black guard, but that would be too beardy! Think about. if you win combat and run the oponent down you get double victory points for the unit. say Lokhir and his unit fight a 200 points units and win the fight. the enemy flees and they re-roll there highest dice for fleeing. if Lokhir catching the unit he gains 200VPX2+100 for the standard =500points.

The main reason i take Lokhir if for fluff and I love the model. his rules for the Red Blades are better than they sound at first glance. The say He Gains an extra attack for every rank the oponent has. not for every point of rank the bonus the oponent has. so even the 5 models in the front count as a rank. if the units is a 5X5 Lokhir gains 5 extra attacks. not 3. giving him a total of 8 with re-roll's to hit and to wound in the first round. he's not that hard to kill, if you can catch him. it makes it a little harder to do that with his daring leap
