Lava theme?

Post by Dannyisevil »

At the moment I am thinking what kind of theme I gona use for my Dark elfs.
a good option is: lava theme

Scales become red/orange/yellow.
a bit like my lizardmen:

Grey/black body.
Base become lava base.

The lava base I am not sure how too do that.
Some one have experiance, idea about this?

patches or gravel, possibly inked dark brown or black, and between them paint fire coloured lines (as thick as you want the lava to be).

In other ways lines that are darker on the outside and brighter on the inside, dark red or even black (cooled lava) going into bright orange (flowing hot)

New daemon book has nice lava bases on the bloodletters you could take a look there for reference.
7th edition army book:
Games Played: 213
Games Won: 114 (54%)
Games Drawn: 33 (15%)
Games Lost: 66 (31%)

8th Edition army book W/D/L:
Druchii: 36/4/16

I suggest you make the base out of normal beach sand and then paint it in a greyish/black colour with maybe some small strings( right word??) made out of gw water effect and yellow/ orange paint.
And your lizzie theme should work well for lava druchii, just don't forgett that in a lava cave only the flowing lava is orange and that there are a lot of black and grey around it.

Thanks for the idea's.

In the new deamon book there is a nice lava base.
Still I am thinking of lava landscape.

Orange lava, now that is nice :D
So you can black coat water effect?

At the moment I am thinking too put greenstuff on base too make lava look on the lower parts on the base.
Greenstuff is pretty exspensive too put on manny base?
There is a cheaper way too this?(brown/grey stuff)

If I finaly know how I make the base, I have the drive too start making my dark elf army.
At the moment I have in Box:
2 Dark elf Battalion
25 witch elfs (1 fullcomand)
4 box cold ones
3 box corsairs
20 executioners (1 fullcomand)
manny eternal guard too make black guard
1 wood elf wizzard too make dark elf wizzie
1 box war hydra
1 cauldron of blood
2 repeater boltthrowers
1 box of glade guard too make shades

Lot of models :D

The one time I did a lava base http://www.coolminiornot.com/174278 I only added a couple of bubbles made out of green stuff. The rest of the effect was painted together with the glow on the rocks.

I think that flat lava looks nicer and is easier to do, but every now and then add some raised areas made out of green stuff just to give some texture.

Hope that helps.

Nice model Pete-h.
Dark elf have small bases, so i think the bubble is hard too do.

At the moment I have made 25 bases for the corsairs.
