Lava theme blog *picture dragon WIP*
At the momentI am starting a Dark elf army and I am making a lava theme.
bases are bit lava and I use lava collours
Here is the picture of the bases:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/ ... G_2226.jpg
and I am testing some collours on Corsairs cloaks.
I love too too paint scales
The cloaks are a bit drybrushed:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/ ... ftest1.jpg
The idea of the scales are that the scales are colloured red, orange and maybee yellow.
between the scales i keep the collout black.
Like the idea?

You might investigate coolminiornot for easy lava treatments. They have great tutorials.

Thanks for the replies.
Coolminiornot is a very good site too get good idea's.
Good idea!!
Sunday I glued 25 Corsair and glued some sand on the base..
I put an other layer of water effect on the base because the sand ruin some parts of the watereffect i first used.
Water effect??? yes I use Water effect (woodland scenics) too make lava stream.
I have no idea if this work but it's fun.
The 25 Corsair needed too be black coated.
Saturday/sunday black coat spay day.
If it's not raining.
I have heard if there is lot of water in the air it's bad for the coat

Lookin good, though it is a lot of painting work. You might consider painting them one colour and then go back and pick some scales up to paint them in an other colour.
About the bases, really good idea, it is nice that you already looked how the unit would be looking as a whole.

First all the scales are paint blood red. then I used part of blazing orange, fiery orange and some few scales flat yellow (Vallejo paint).
Use some devlan mud wash too get more detail between the scales
Painted 25 corsairs that way and that is lot of scales.
The armour painted Brass (Vallejo paint) and possible some inkt/wash over this part
Face is Sky grey (Vallejo paint) and use devlan mud wash after that.
Now I am not 100% sure about the cloak, possible dark red collour like red gore.
Because of the armour is painted brass brown is not good.
grey can be ok but the face is a bit grey.
Argg...I am not sure about this one

Why don't yo take an other sort of dark red, Dark Flesh mixing with Blood red, it is still pretty dark and if you want you can make it darker by washing it with watered down scorched brown. That is the combo I use for my red.

I wouldn't use so much gold and red, red and gold just are very close to each other (not sure about my english, hope you understand what I mean). Maybe silver and golden trims is an idea, that way you still keep thew feeling that the corsairs are rich, which I'm guessing that you're after, and you do get some contrast . Anyway, the technics don't look bad.
P.S: Where do you live in the Netherlands?

Wood Elves stole some of our weapons. Nono. Its the other way around. Somewhere out there theres a group of wood elves sitting around tied together butt naked.
Daddy! I sorta kinda had an accident... I was playing with my slave and it sorta... Umm... It's arm fell off!

Any idiot can measure strenght. Against properly played MSU you must measure something you cannot see.

Charming
Im aiming for something similar, thought I want 18 shades with GW, going to use 2x9 with one assassin in each.
What great weapons would fit these ? I sure don't have any bits that look anything druchii when it comes to big swords...

Some scaled creatures are getting wings.
The scales become painted in the collour theme.
