Nice Blog I really like what you did with the Dark riders and condones, great paint work and conversation, especially on your Master on Dark Steed.

P.S. thanks for your Basing guild, i used your cork technique for my shades.

@ Stripped and repainted - yes, it's Mannfred's Nightmare with a bret pegasus head. I gued a dark elf icon over the fleur-de-leys shaped armor, and sculpted fleshhooks at the end of the ribbons at the side of his head to make it look more Dark Elf-ish. The lower body of the rider is Count Mannfred's legs. If I would do the conversion again I would dremel them off personally, since they're a bit large compared to the rest of his body.

@ Lah Di'dar - Conversation? I don't talk to my models :P Would be quite funny though... "Hello, master, who'se the best, yes, you are! Now who are you going to stick with that lance.... evil High Elves, yes!" - Alright, got a bit carried away there.

Most of the conversions I did are rather easy, and don't require greenstuffing. Thanks about liking my conversions and paintjobs. And happy I could have been some help for the basing of your shades. Got some pictures of your shades? I'm curious about how they look :) .

@ Ampao - Thanks for liking the conversion. As I said before, the legs of count Mannfred are a bit large for a dark elf body, so I suggest you dremel them off (shouldn't be that hard), and just sculpt cloth over the dremeld bits. Shouldn't be that hard. The big legs look a bit awkward (that's why I didn't paint the foot braces, to prevent putting an accent on his long legs). Feel free to steal the conversion. I am the one who stole your colourscheme for your cold one knights after all . It would be a bit cheesy for me to say "Don't steal my conversions!' to you then.

Anyways, a mate of mine told me there's a 2250 point tourney coming up in late january, so I think I might start building my Dreadlord on Black Dragon after all.

UPDATE! RUN [orcy voice] BOYZ DERE'S DREKINZ ON DA LOOSE! [/orcy voice]

I've been working on my dragon lately (yes, I know I should be painting a manti!), and I really like the way he is turning out so far. Do note this is still a WIP. Anyways, pictures!

Do note the greenstuffing done is just filling gaps to make it more solid. The detailing will be sculped over it later today. The rider will be made from legs from the HE dragon kit, black guard upper body, and a corsair sea dragon cloak.

And again, C&C is appreciated ;)

The Dragon looks awesome, really original and looks hard to convert & model.

I do have my doubts on the transporting issue though - how do you plan to pack that model anywhere? It takes a lot of space and the tail might get damaged as well as the wings - depending on how you model the wings, of course ;)

If I were you, and thus capable of doing it, I'd change the tail to coil around the rock and on the base, so that it wouldn't interfere with gameplay and would be a bit safer.. Would that be a good idea?

But yeah, looks really great

@ Zakath, I can't coil the tail around the base, because you can see the tail already looks a bit "angular" at the bent places. I must admit coiling the tail around the base was the original plan .

Update, I've done some detailing around the neck areas, and bulked up the rock a bit more to make it seem more realistic. Also, I made a start on the tail. I still have to scult the scales there. It may need a bit of filing down here and there though.

Anyways, on to the pictures!

Image
Here you can see the scales, these are so annoying to sculpt.

Image
And an overall view of the dragon. You can really see him shaping up now.

C&C is appreciated, as usual. Thanks!

Good work! Are you going to magnetize the rider? The fact that the set come with two pair of legs begs for two versions of riders. It wouldn't be too hard to do in a plastic mini. I've done it on my tau battle suit and I did it on my metal manticore (harder but worth it).

Loving the pose of your dragon. When I see a model that good the rider concerns me, I can't see your dragon accepting a rider on his back!

You might want to work on the green stuffed scales so they match the actual dragon scales, otherwise it looks odd. Nice pose though.

@ Notts - Thanks!

@ Seralkith - Yes, I will magnitise the rider. I've ended up messing one pair of legs up, and building a cool dreadlord from the other (One dreadlord looked like he was about to fall off of the dragon). Anyways, I made a few more shots ^^. I'll take proper shots of the finished model tonight.

And again, C&C is appreciated.

P.S, I know the Crimson Death is two handed, but with the shield he has a 2+ save against shooting.

It looks good. I wonder, is it high enough to hang over any unit it should happen to charge? I faced this problem not long ago, and my solution was to stick a great hunk of clay underneath. How'd you go?

That's looking great mate, well done. The pointing arm and pose of the rider in particular complement the pose of the dragon nicely. I'm doing a chaos dragon rider at the moment but it's a lot less ambitious that yours!

Good job, inspiring stuff...

Looking at the army as a whole I was well impressed by the combination of speed painting and excellent results. I used to have problems with being too much of a perfectionist, I would find myself painting details that would never be seen, but slowly I have realised that a speed painting approach can be just as rewarding - looking at armies like this helps to remind me not to obsess over all those useless layers of highlighting on the last spearman's shoelaces etc. Congrats on the Best Army award, well earned.

This reminds me of a Best Painted nomination from a UK GT in 2000, a Brettonian army in dark green, black and white. Stunning work at tabletop distance, and the guy painted it in 2 weeks. :)

cheers - paul

That Dread Lord is Bad Ass

I second what Comrade Igor said about the scales. If you look closely, you'll see the dragon's have more straight edges to them. But that is only a nit-pick detail (take it as a compliment your work is very good). There's been a lot of good work done on this lot and it's safe to say you've got an army worthy of envy! ;)

Looking awesome. I actually have a little pile of bits for my dragon rider which is going to look shockingly similar to yours. You beat me to the punch on that halberd, damn you!
Mine'll be on a WE forest dragon, though, so they won't look too similar. =]

That is a nice dran you got there mate :) . I love the way you have reposed him, and the dragon lord looks great too. Though one minor point about the legs of the lord: I think they're too High Elfish IMO, I'd use CoK legs instead (that's what I've done).
Well, that was what I had to say, Keep Up The Good Work mate!
Cheers!

That high elven scalemail is going to look strange on druchii. I suggest you paint it to look like the sea dragon cloak (that's what I will do when I get the dragon, and it is no use hoardin ideas).

Now that the dragon is done, paint the manticore! :)

Well, I can't see the head really well, so it's hard to comment about it. The cloak looks awesome, but one question though, I don't know what lighter is, could you please explain (or just translate into Dutch :) ). It looks cool though, and so does his static pose.
Cheers!

lighter = aansteker

nice pose but meby a little better picture of the head would be nice, I think the hair is bit to much hair :P. Think a helm or with a little more hair would be good.
