Starting with the warriors (updated 8-18-2010)

Post by Ekalb »

I was thinking of doing them red but that is the color of my High Elf army and don' think I could stand painting another one tht color in a LONG time. I really like the way the blue is turning out

I just got the book and a box of warriors and was wondering how you all like the them so far and need some ideas on how to base them.
Most if not all the models in the pics are unfinished so any ideas or tips are very welcome!

Looks great so far, I like the blue and your use of the skull shields. The one thing about the warrior heads is that you missed a few of the mold lines which should be scraped/sanded away, they will give your models a better finished look. What do you plan to do for finishing your bases? Other than that, keep up the great work!

I don't know what I am going to do with the bases. I just can't seem to come up with an idea I reall like yet. As for the casting lines, I forgot to shave em off on quite a few of the models, I will probably do better when I get the rest of the army after the new year

I have an idea for your bases, look at Sarcon's army blog, he has some wicked bases ;) . I like your colourscheme by the way, look pretty. You also paint very nice, neat and clean. Can't wait to see more.

I removed the pictures, as they are greater than 800x600 pixels in size. - Gnosis, P&M admin.

I usually finish the whole model before I do the base but wanted to try some stuff out before finishing up the details. I wanted the base to be nice but not too flashy as these are only warriors, on the CoK and Darkriders I think I will add more stuff. I am thinking about adding some flat greenish grey static flock here and there but am not sure how it will look.

Your bases look nice, though I'd reccomend painting all the flock in a stonish colour and then add some static grass, because now you also have painted some flock green.
About the warriors so far, they look nice, altouhg I think they could clean their armour a bit more :P , maybe a bit less washes (which I'm guessing you used).

Hi, I like your painting is nice and clean and the colour scheme with the bronze chainmail looks good, I was just wondering what you used for the stones, was it cork or did you model them out of green stuff?

The armor is just a dark bronze that is highlighted by a paint called azteck gold and then given a light drybrush of M. silver. What kind of cleaning up do yo mean? Is the paint too multi colored or do you mean something else?

The rocks on the bases are just really small rocks I pick up off my driveway.

The pictures are a bit far off to make out good detail. Is the armor supposed to be bronze or rusted?

My wife just surprised me with the coolest Dragon I have ever seen and a whole army to go along with it this last week. I still have over fifty models to glue together. Once I get all that glued I will start making all the characters i can with the left overs.

http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp23 ... 851458.jpg

http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp23 ... 851461.jpg

Hopefully I can get all of my models done this week so I can start sanding and Base coating them black next week. I am going to try to do the whole army in stages instead of doing each unit one at a time. Don't know how long that will las but I will soon find out.

Quick question: Any ideas on what colors to paint on the Dragon? I just really don't like the idea of a Black Dragon. Dark I kinda like, but not black.

P.S. all the muck on the wall is a result in having a toddler eat chocolate cake, IT was Not me ;) ;)

I like the poses on the dark riders they remind me of the scenes in the Fellowship of the Ring where the Nasgul are galloping around!!

That dragon is seriously sweet (if you can say that about a monster that large and dangerous)

Considering the paint job done on the other models I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results on the new batch. Keep up the good work.

I believe the minis is from Ultraforge Miniatures. It weighs in at a hefty $89.00 before shipping. Very nice.

Yup it is indeed from Ultraforge. My wife got it for me as a surprize! She pretty much rocks my socks off.

If there's any way you can take your pictures a bit closer up, and downsize the images a bit [to below the Damnation threshold, 800x600 pixels] then please do. I want to see these miniatures in greater detail, as they seem quite nice from a distance.

here are some updates on the dragon. I have not been able to paint much this month as the wind and cold around here makes it hard to prime models

Well I am finally back and only have a single model to show but sometimes anything is better than nothing. I have a bunch of extra corsairs sitting around so decided to make some characters out of them and a bunch of other elf bits.

This is an assassin if for some reason you could not tell from the pics. I still need to make one more but I am working on making some harpies out of undead kits and green stuff so he might have to wait a few weeks.

So I finally have quite a bit done, with 5 more cold one knights and some converted harpies and shades up next. Most of the army is still wip, but overall it looks good on the table.

Is the ultraforge dragon models the same size as the Games workshop miniature?

its a bit bigger, but it would probably fit on a chariot base.

Here is some more of the army. I was never a fan of the mole covered harpies so gave my molding and sculpting side its first test. The wings are not all that great, but better than I thought they would turn out.
