How to create a Guerilla list?

Post by Yourmumrang »

Hi all. I've been toying around with my "wants/needs" and have decided NOT to take every single mini I like but actually show some self control. Instead I want to create a Guerilla list.

How do we go about this? For me, the following seem important.

- Shades. Fighty and shooty.

- Assasins. Rending stars are mean and along with Shades these guys can prove fatal.

- Magic/magic defense. I cannot decide how to go as magic will plug gaps in the army but can be easily shut down int he new metagame.

- Dark Riders and Harpies.

- Blocks. Do we need them?

- Something hitty. What?

I'd appreciate some feedback on this and hopefully it can help others too!

Yay! I really love these kind of armies!
About you points:
-shades, dark riders and assasin's: they fit the 'theme' perfectly and they are very good at guerilla tactics. I would definately take them in such a list.
-magic: I like it, with assasin with the cloak and a wizard or two you have a decent magic phase wich can do some real damage but your army will be quite small, it's up to your taste.
-harpies: they certainly work although for most of their roles I would rather take DR.
-I don't think blocks would be a good idea if you want a guerilla list because they are just too slow and difficult to manouvre, however, I think MSU would work quite decent with such lists
-I wouldn't take coldones as they are unreliable, witchelves are good versus blocks, even in small units, and executioners can finish off enemy cavalry (or take an assasin with KB gear) and both of these work OK with MSU.

I hope I helped

I have a question as well:
-would a guerilla list work without ANY real cc troops apart from an assasin? just shades, DR, magic, harpies and crossbowmen. or would it be a good idea to include some witches/exies/blocks?

I tried a couple of versions, its nice, but still needs tweaking :P
18" charge US 30 fear-causing DRs is pretty cool

But the dark riders don't really have the strength to break through anything with high armor and/or toughness
I was once a dwarf, but then a big dragon appeared. I rose my axe, ready to fight, but the rider said:come to the dark side...
we have cookies!
Well i couldn't resist that!
Now i am the mighty general of a dark elf army MUHUHAHA (still need to work on that evil laugh though)

But 4 masters with lances/soulrender do, 10 S6 attacks, 3 armor piercing S5, and 2 S4 from the herald... and really high toughness things should be softened already by rending stars throwing assassins. Cheaper than the cold one death star. I'd try to toss the death mask in there though, immune to fear/terror and autobreaking anything that doesn't cause terror itself is mighty nice...

I would take a list that looks like this:

2 (or 3) x 5 DR, rxbow, mus. (one of them champ + ring of hotek)
2x 5 Harpies
2 x 5 Shades, rxbow, greatweapon.
1 assasin
1 (or 2) units cold ones.
1 BG or exes
2 sorceresses (one on dark steed)
and 2 Reapers or 1 hydra. (or both on 2000 points)

This list has, when played with the right tactics, the power to use Guerillia and to take some damage. (i love the hydra :D )
Why take exes, Why are they so good?

you can lose with a good tactic but you'll never win with a bad one.

I like the idea of the uber DR list :D but I just don't see it as 'Guerilla Tactics' the dozens of hoofbeats giving away the sneaking up part!

Personally I'd go for some Corsair units-fluff wise Corsairs sneaking up on someone to raid/ambush them would fit and tactics wise their slaver rule would help when combined with Shades/DR's or both. Maybe 2 small units of 10 with muso and handbows....

Corsairs are not that good, in comination with a hard hitting unit they can be use full, but not on its own. And this is not really a guirillia list.

DR are guirillia becouse they flee 3 D6. So you can shoot and first and if you get charged you can flee as a charge reaction. And shades are the sneaking part ;). And with 4 RBT and some harpies to slow the enemy you can keep shooting for at least one more turn.

I love Guerilla lists, I believe they are what Dark Elves are all about, lightning quick raids from the middle of no where leaving devastation in there wake.
I would go with
Supreme Sorceress on Dar Peg
Sorceress on dark Peg
Master on Dark Peg

3 units of Dark Riders with RXB
4 units of harpies
2 units of Shades
Unit of 5-7 Naked Witches
5 Cold One Knights
2 RBT
War Hydra
