Cauldron of blood conversion

Post by One-s »

The idea was to create a cauldron with an unworldly relaxed atmosphere.
It should look evil and harmless at the same time, with an aura of pain and pleasure.

Here's what I came up with:

My Death Hag also functions as a BSB hence the banner.
It's made from pieces of a spearmansprew and the pole comes from the old GW Cauldron model.
So does the cauldron itself.
The base is made from cork.
The death hag and her crew are from Hasslefree miniatures.

Do you think I've achieved my goal?
Suggestions for improvement are welcome.

You have style, man.
Don't like a blue-colored skin, but it is my own preferences )

Good job, really.

That's not a bad cauldron. I'll echo Lasthobbit's remark - what's up with the blue skin???

The blood in the cauldron could use a red wash to give it some depth but that's just preference.

Oeps, forgot to mention about the bleu skin.
'Ciaphas Cain novels'
Thats where my inspiration for the skintones comes from.
I didn't read them myself. A friend of me did and he talks a lot about them.
You could say that he influenced me more then the novels ;)

I want to add some snow to the base, but I don't know how to make it.
I also feel like adding a freehander to the banner, but I never tried that before.
Could someone give me some pointers on how to start doing one of those?

there is a basing product that simulates snow effects, but i can't think of the name of it right now, sorry. as for the banner, i would say find something similar size and just practice till you get what you like.

Beldayne. Do you mean snow flock? It looks white you glue it on with PVA (or your choice of adhesive) to make it look like a patch of snow. Gale Force 9 usually sells the stuff for 1/2 the GWorkshop price.

I believe that the finer the flock the smoother the effects will come out as, and for such a large area, it may be best to make a hell brew of PVA, snow flock and a bit of white paint. I haven't tried this since I don't make large areas of snow but it sounds convincing to me at least :P

One (only) criticism for your painting is that the colour you chose for the hair is too similar to the armour for my likings. It looks like they have copper hair or hair armour  haha...

Will you do some freehand on the banner?

Here's a quick (but good!) tutorial one of our local San Diego guys made (Ghoulking is a GT winner and a GD silver so you can trust his stuff). Snow is pretty easy!

Have you read the comments under those tutorials? Apparently the drawback of using soda is that it turns yellowish over time. As for me that's a problem, so I'd rather invest in fake snow and advise the same.

Impressive COB, very original. Compliments for that.

Only the banner is not that much original. I regret particularly the mask on it, I'm sure you can find something more unique.
