Official Base Size&Unit Strength Chart 2009

Post by Silverheimdall »

Only available in French for now.

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... s-Type.pdf

Dragons, Wyvern, etc are ALL 50x100 (Chariot Base)
Tyrion is indeed 50x50 still even with his US going down to 2.
War Altar is 50x125

All Warmachines were given base size but these don't really affect them in any way.
The lil (#) fine print at the end:

"The Unit Strength of War Machines is equal to the number of Crew remaining. The numbers in the chart are starting Unit Strength size"

75x100mm.

"Gob Chariots with an extra Wolf must be on a 75x100 base"

"The Warplightning Cannon is considered as a Chariot for its Unit Strength since it cannot lose crew in the same way as other warmachines"

(4) Taille de socle donnée à titre indicatif.

"Base size given as a guide" (for warmachines)

"Figurines must normally be played on the base from the same box they were sold in. However, for tournaments, it is preferable that figurines of the same type be played on the same bases: All dragons on 50x100 and all giants on a 50x75". This is however left to the tournament organisers to decide.

"This character only moves as a monster, may not join units or enter buildings. He stays a character and thus is not affected by items or spells, or rules that affect Monsters"

"This model only moves as a monster, may not join units (unless taken as a mount for a necromancer) nor enter buildings. It remains a normal unit and is not affected by items, spells or rules that affect Monsters"

Would that really affect the play of the cauldron though? I doubt tournaments would be that picky on such a thing....

I think it will be nice to finally have formal base sizes for all models. While it usually isn't a big deal, I have seen massive bases for some models that have abilities to affect any unit in base contact (nurgle comes to mind) so bringing them down to their proper size will remove that problem. For war machines, finally having a base should simplify range/charge issues by going base to base rather than the various and sundry versions players use(extreme edge of part of the machine, the crew, the middle, etc.)

Dragon base size also says it's just a guide and you should keep playing with whatever you got in the box.
Unless tournament organiser says otherwise.
