constructive criticism on my druchii

Post by Rmfxa »

so i have been playing dark elves for a little over a year now and i have
recently been thinking about getting some criticism from some more veteran
painters.

i recently purchased this mini from reaper and just finished painting it. i
am planning to field it as a supreme sorceress that uses shadow magic

Nice model. I would be good to see some more layering on the skin. I work up from dark flesh through to elf flesh, wash with a thin layer of dark flesh and highlight with elf flesh again, then a final highlight of 50-50 elf flesh and white.

It's a nice model with decent colours to match Druchii themes. The skin could use some highlights but over all it's a decent tabletop quality. Too bad the base is so big or you could field her in an actual game.

One simple tip -- the flock on your base looks crappy. Static grass is a MUCH better option.

Also, there is a lot of Black on this model -- the clothing, the broken fence, etc. It's hard to tell what everything is because it's so monochromatic.

A good advice is to thin your paints more that way your skanky witches won't develop celluliitis :p

I like the hydra's colour scheme quite a bit. The Executioners I don't really understand. Their armour looks run down and neglected kind of like a Skaven's armour. And the banner is blue with red highlights. Those colours don't normally go together like that so it looks un-natural to me.

Very nice sorceress model!
Do you happen to remember what its called? Never saw that before on Reaper's side.

On tip for the executioners: Try using clear red acrylic paint (Tamiya makes a really nice one) for the blood stains. Looks great!

As Lepaca says, tamita clear red is magic for "blooding" things. In my plog you´ll see some examples applied to a CO chariot.

You can mix it with black (normal one) to achive the tone you want. If you add some glue to the mix you can make an interesting gory effect.
