DarkGul's Witch Elves (final update)

Post by Darkgul »

*updated with some more Witch elves^2*

Along with many others i ordered a bunch witch elves from raging heroes. I finally started painting mine and i wanted to show the first ones that are ready.

And finally after putting too many hours in my unit is finished! (well, sort of, im pondering of ordering some more now!). Bear in mind i'm not that great of a painter, i try compensate with putting in alot of hours / model :P.

Impressive work. What color will the army theme be?

Its a dark red/black theme. Elite units, currently only my knights, have a touch of gold. The blood on the swords is to make the WE more matching with the army.

Lovely work there! I am too scared at the moment to paint mine, worried I'll bodge the detail up on their faces! I like the colour scheme you have used.

The faces are pretty easy actually. There's a line sculpted where the eyebrows are, super easy to paint. And i paint the eyes first before i add any lighter color on the black undercoat. The 'inside out method', picked that up from Sindaren on these boards.

They look great!! May pick a couple of these up myself. I've replaced my two COB attendants with Rackham Fianna's as well as the command group for my WE's.

How large a unit are you hoping to do?

I've only got 2 boxes plus the command so far but will probably need another box of troops. I've also pre-ordered the blood mistress but there's a problem with her being 'left handed' and the intended 'right handed' will be delayed.

I'd love to see a nice unit painted up.

Great work!

I've got the same "scared to screw up" problem with my witch elves, especially as I have a problem finding the color scheme I want.

I am not a fan of the bloody weapons, but I'd guess that witch elves would draw a lot of blood :D

I should get my own done soon, I want to be able to field 3 units of 21 witch elves eventually, even though I'll only use that much on rare occasions.

@WithHatred
Im gonna start with 23 elves. 20 plain ones to make 2 units of 10. As how i like to field them atm. Im also gonna paint the command group to replace the CoB crew wich is also the BSB.

@Omnichron
So far these are the only painted models. I had another project this week, magnetising my army ^^. Next week im out of town, after that ill continue working on the iron ladies.

3 units sound awesome. Id love to try that one day because they perform so well. Buuuut first finish these héhé.

Ive added some more Witch Elves since i had some time to paint some more up.

I currently run them in 2 small units of 10. so i guess my first unit of witch elves is done! 13 more to go ^_^.

*edit* Is there a code to make your images appear a bit smaller but clickable for full size? I realise theyre hogging the screen a bit :s.

They look great man.

I could note a few details, but by all means, they are only details...(and I wouldn't be able to perfect them myself!)

You gave their navel a deep contrast. While this works out quite well, you give them, combined with their natural shapes, a rather voluptuous look. That's good, if that's the effect you're aiming for. If you want to make them look slightly more athletic you could make the naval look "less deep" and maybe add a few lines to outline their musculature.

See this image:
http://image.shutterstock.com/display_p ... 582636.jpg
(Though notable less voluptuous)
Again... great work and I'd be hard pressed to match that level but the small variations on the naval and belly highlights gave me the impression you were trying things out.

Also.. check
http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=48053&start=0
From GeOrc. in particular the eyes. The close-up you have from one of the models has her eyebrows and shades play with the light a little, creating the impression she has make-up. If you ever wish to add that, check how GeOrc used contrast to increase the emphasis on the eyes :)

But.. really good work man! It will be a splendid looking unit.

Great work. It makes me anxious to start my own witch elves (as soon as they're delivered that is)

@Dareon thanks for the excellent feedback. I have indeed been very experimental with these elves. Not really knowing where i'd end up with the finish result.

Those are some good reads. I'm not really that great of a painter though, to be honest the make up effect was just a play of light and not really intentional. But all these little things will stick in the mind for future projects.

Btw, I'm from Ghent, you happen to play there sometimes? ^^.

.. Bouw?

Anyhow... I don't play in Ghent. But perhaps the odd trip could take me there eh? :)
