News about the new Dark Elf 8th edition release.

Post by Kheel »

What do we know so far?

One rumor I've heard plenty is the release date will be some time in august. Harry did mention this on warseer, but did not confirm it with 100% certainty.
Also I've heard we will get some new plastic monster kit, probably 150x100mm base type. Have not seen any pictures, so could be anything basically. Could also be a new Hydra model, tho I've heard something about wings and swappable heads or more than one head in the kit. This is vaigue, and has been told on 4chan's /tg/ and appeared on dakkadakka.

Anything else I've heard looks like wishlists.

Do we have any more rumors or anything confirmed? It's not that far away really.

All of which would be interesting to see what happens. I doubt Lizzies would get a chariot, but what possible new stuff could they do that havn't been done? Cold ones with coned heads that have impact hits?

Upgrades for the carnasour?

More characters named after dinobots?

Dwarves would be another thing. It would probably be new minies for existing troops, but I could see a new warmachine like a small blimp. Since they are sticking to the runes, they'll probably do that with their stuff as well, as well as tweak with the runes they have, not that it needs much tweeking with.

As for DE, if they come out in Augest, it means they come out around my birthday so I'll be happy about that.

Hmm, new monster could be a K'daii Destroyer from the Storm of Magic. That's the only thing I can think of that sits on that size of a base and there is currently no model for it. Otherwise I think it'd have to be something completely new.

Wikipedia has Lizardmen listed as coming out in August, no mention of anything past that yet.

GW has been working on new Witch Elves minis, and there has been rumors of another elite infantry kit (not new infantry, but might be BG or Execs... or both). These were rumors from almost a year ago, and it was speculated whether they'd be a pre release wave for late 2012 or in 2013.

No surprises there really, but I guess the changes of Witch Elves means new models for death hag and cauldron as well.

So what would need to be added?

Most books have 4-6 named charecters, they could get that.

They already have 2 types of wizards and 3 types of combat lords and heros. Maybe Lord level skinks?

New monster maybe? Now that I think of it, they probably could have an ankleosourus and do well as a monster choice.

Dark Elves are rumored November, and a new rumor says October... although I think it's more reliable that it'll be November as the initial rumor said. Dwarves has been rumored as well, but that has turned around a bit from what I've seen lately.

I probably wouldn't wait as it is by no means sure they will be released this year.

Even it they are, its probably only some models reworked (special choices and maybe couldron and harpies from what I've heared so far), most remain unchanged.

Well, depends on what you're after. If you want a top tier army to play with now, the current dark elves are up there for sure.

If you want new and updated models, it might be worth waiting for either the GW release of somewhere between october this year and a year or two, or wait for the kickstarter from Raging Heroes... they have previously created some awesome models that is my witch elves. The kickstarter sketches thus far is just a dark rider and harpy, but from what they've delivered thus far (and with the current kickstarter), I can't wait to see what they'll bring in the dark elf package.

I doubt there will be much that changes. Last few edition updatess, very few of the old models changed too radically.

Well, Dark Riders are still Pewter, and lack a standard bearer right now (shame, as the one they had had a halberd I was going to use for a BSB until I found some old Phoenix guard).

Witch elves are currently unavailable, so they are bound to get something.

We also lack a chariot for sometime, so that is bound to change.

I think GW has been doing something just about every month so 2 months apart makes sense to me.

Heh, on the dwarf forum (Bugmans) there's gloomy predictions that Dark elves will be done before dwarves, and then on this fine forum there are predictions that the dwarves will be done first...

As to wether to buy a dark elf army now, I'd say it depends on why you want one. If it's for the models and background, then I'd say go ahead! Lately GW have been pretty careful to not invalidate any old models. Further, they haven't re-done any plastic kits since 6th edition, so any plastic models you buy will remain contemporary. If on the other hand you want a bleeding edge competitive list, then I'd suggest either being prepared to drop more cash when the new book comes out (whenever that might be), or playing a recent and top tier list instead (Warriors of Chaos springs to mind).

with GW dropping the black box release this year that pushed everyone up a month. the current rumors I've heard/seen on the interwebs is lizzies in august, marines in september a long with one of their supplements, dark elves in october, either IG or nids/ a space marine supplement in november, with the hobbit and stunties in the december/january slot.

I hadn't heard anything about GW dropping the black box for this year.... I know they are dropping specialist games, but so far as one off's, like the one schedualed for this year, those were/are still go....

I know of a lot of Warriors of Chaos Marauders, Vampire Counts Skeletons, and an entire Tomb King book that would disagree with that statement!

Deamons and Warriors of Chaos were two months apart aswell: Feb and Apr.

Actually, the order so far has been:

Jan - Dark Angels (40k)
Feb - Warriors of Chaos (fantasy)
Mar - Daemons (Both)
Apr - Tau (40k)
May - High Elves (fantasy)
Jun - Eldar (40k)

Everyone starting to see the trend here? I know it's obviously not much to go on, but H&H both had this previous line up predicted (not necessarily the months, but the order of releases) late last year, and they have continually said that next order will be something along the lines of...

Apocalypse (Jul)
Lizardmen (Aug)
Space Marines (Sep)
Dark Elves (Oct)

So if it keeps going as is, this is how we get to dark elves in october :) now let's all just hope

I'm surprised that the rumors aren't space marine chapters getting released every month after the initial release... or maybe it's just the whole next year that will be filled with them.

Whether it's October or November, it seems that the rumors are turning towards Dark Elves army book being done this year instead of the next, which makes me a happy man... I mean happy elf... that is, less angry elf.
