Great update.
The gladiators are amazing, they really look the part, with dramatic poses and the weapons. Really neat idea and perfect execution. And speaking of executions... yes, the Shadow Warrior heads are just too nice not to use, so much better than those strange skull masks the original executioners have. And they fit even better with the executioner body than I would have thought, really menacing!

Any chance of an army shot? I'd love to see how the models look all assembled, I really like your colour scheme.

Soon, I promise(tm)! I've currently embarked upon finally basing everything, and this will really do more justice than the black bases.

Love the Execs. Brooding and aesthetic.

I've also went down the Sisters/Wyches gladiatorial route, but with some differences.

More great stuff! 8)

I finally finished reading End Times: Khaine, and you know what? To hell with these 9th edition rumours. Let's enjoy the moment whilst it lasts. Shadowfire Guard, ready for basing!

I also posted a few WiP shots over on the What Will You Add forum but it looks like they have fallen into shadow, so here they are again.

Love the Sisters of Slaughter conversions.
I really like what you've done with the Silver Helms, they look so much better than the stock models.

Thanks for all the comments! I've got three Helms completely done now and about to start on the Shadowfire Guard. Will hopefully get some more pictures out over the coming days.

I was really pleased with how they turned out too - but, alas, the Sisters of Slaughter have been pulled apart in order to be repurposed for Witch Elves. Sadly I was just never writing the SoS into any lists, but I was really feeling the need for a medium-large Core combat unit.

Progress! Here's a mock up of my first Shadowfire Guard.

Now, a question for you Dnetters. Is this model going to be too dark? I figure the red and silver is enough to make it stand out, but I could do the 'skirt' red to add a bit more depth to it.

For completeness, here's how the cloaks are going to look from behind:

I don't think it's too dark. Just some subtle highlights on the black if you are concerned, but I think the metal work contrasts nicely. And they were Black Guard in a former life, they probably havent changed their wardrobe out yet...

Looking great. It's amazing how much a head can change a model - it is Phoenix guard with just Blackguard head, isn't it? I like the colour scheme and don't think it's too dark, the red is quite distinctive and I like how the two colours work together.
Panting the hem of the skirt might break the metal and make it pop a little bit more (even though I'm not sure whether I'd do it in red or maybe even black, as I said, I don't think it needs brightening), but I don't really think it needs it that much and maybe it would look better as it is.
I really like the cloaks, the flames really stand out. Great job! :)

Thanks for the feedback. Having slept on it I came to agree, and took the plunge this evening. Should be able to get some pics up tomorrow in better light!

And arms too :) That being said, it's not as easy a swap as you might think. The Phoenix Guard kit is actually pretty terrible (weird arm joints, part of a shoulder and a sliver of cloak are separate pieces, massive neck joints, chests that don't sit quite right on legs, etc), and I had to cut the Black Guard arms back to get them to fit within the cloaks. I managed it in the end, just took a lot of patience (and cutting).

Looking nice, although the banner is a little unfinished. Any freehand or transfers planned?

There will be transfers... eventually :p at some point I am going to sit down and do these for all my banners. At some point.

Also have to do the flames on the banner and finish off the basing, which should help to alleviate abd break up the black.

Very nice!

For the banner I can picture a swirling shadowflame (easier said than done I guess :D )

I see it now, thanks. Just take it as a compliment of how seemless the conversion is, I really didn' notice any cutting. And thanks for the warning against the Phoenix Guard kit. I have only ever used the cloak, so it's good to know.
