I like the white horse quite a bit. Not only does it make it very different than what you see everywhere but it will really stand out against the rest of a dark elf army.

The only downside is all that standoutyness will make your opponents focus overmuch on your warlocks and try to destroy them as qckly as possible...oh wait, they do that anyway....
That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?

Very nice! Echo the comments above re: the white horse - not something I'd elect to do myself (just can't bring myself to make a "dark steed" white :D), but I definitely appreciate the contrast!

Maybe a bit of shading on the mane? Love the warlock though! Seems like blue/white is a popular choice :) You've pulled it off quite well. Lastly, the skeleton on the base is a nice touch.

Now let's see a unit!

I like the Warlock's white dark steed too! The model looks suitably sinister and unnatural in a good way.

So I am falling way behind schedule and have done very little painting the past month. To get back into the swing of it I painted up this old school master on Sunday. I did him up in the color scheme I plan on using for my "Black" Gaurd. I am not all together ecstatic with the end result, but think it is a good first try for white armor - and learned some tricks along the way. I am not sure if you can see it in the picture, as it is a little blurry, but I am pretty happy with the red gems on the sword and armor, which were a first attempt at the technique as well.

I know I'll likely get some push back on dark elves going white - a view which I will gladly entertain! Advice, comments and criticism welcome and appreciated!!

Not so much pushback because you actually did a decent job of it. White is really hard to pull off! But I don't understand it. When I see white, I think porcelain or, if the piece is smaller, bone - both of which are really brittle. So it looks 'wrong' (obviously no one is going to make armor out of either of those materials). I don't get what you're trying to tell me by making the armor and all his gear white. It'd be the same if you made it orange or blue or hot pink. I guess the palate choice just isn't intuitive to me?

Interesting look. Maybe Bone is the material of choice.
Pretty nicely executed white, can see some definition and shade. Thanks for the update.

It is very well done - but I look at that mini and think "Why does that High Elf have skulls on his clothes?" I can go with the white horse, but white "black guard" is just a bridge too far to me.

Again, though, you did the work very well, and they're you're miniatures so don't let my hangups hold you back! :)

I like white Dark Elves.

Possibly because I have some of my own on the drawing board

Have you tried mixing white with a very light metallic (rune fang silver maybe) it should provide some sparkle and contrast to the armour.

Another effect would to do the above as the base then highlight with pure white it will contrast well. Or base white and wash with light silver might need a bit of trial and error

The pure white armour needs a bit of "evil" so you could very finely add flicks of blood to front rank not just on the weapons but like a spray across the whole model. this would give them an appearance of clinical evilness "yeah we have clean white stuff but only until we hack you to pieces" kind as opposed to our high elf cousins "yeah we have clean stuff but please don't hit us and make it dirty" :D the blood on white combination is classic evil mwwwhahahaha

I don't know how to do the flicks without overpowering the models so you may need to search around the web or hopefully get some advice from the veterans here.

WIP Sorcerer (counts as sorceress 8) ), I am going to paint the ball at the end of the staff like Sauron's eye - and attempt source lighting (wish me luck). As a side note, how do people sculpt green/grey stuff? I find it sticks to everything I don't want it to, and doesn't stick to what I want it to, very frustrating.

Try sculpting it wet, it will reduce the sticking.

Model is coming out nice though ad looking forward to seeing the lighting source paint job.

I lick my sculpting tool as I use it. Prevents the green stuff from sticking to it.

I've watched a few tutorial videos that recommend vaseline and/or chap stick when working with green stuff and sculpting tools. Haven't tried it myself, but it looks convincing!

Vasaline might help - I will try it. Do people let their putty set for awhile after mixing before sculpting?

Mango:

Here are a few things that I have found to work:

Your question about timing is a good one. Green stuff will be very sticky when it is freshly mixed, so mix it up and let it sit for a while (15-30 minutes, depending on your preference). Also, you can apply putty roughly where you want it to stick when it is really sticky and then leave it to cure for a bit and then come back to it and work your details. The finer the detail, the later in the curing process you want to do it.

For straight green stuff, keeping your tools slightly greased with Vaseline in a good method. You don't need very much. You can keep a little bit on the back of your hand and run your tools through it from time to time, wiping off the excess. Two other things: dipping your tools in water constantly will help them not stick. Also make sure your tools are very clean. Give them a buff with some super fine sandpaper every once in a while will keep them very smooth and provide less of a surface to stick to.

Thanks Lion very helpful.

Here is another WIP from this evening. I still have to do cloak, gloves base, and the NMM flame reflection is giving me a hell of a time! Has anyone done it/seen it done? I have tried for hours with nothing close to satisfactory!

There are a few PLOGs here with some lighting source effects.
What you have so far is looking good.
A fairly easy tutorial to follow here.

I use an air brush. I put the base coats on the model, spray on my lighting effect, paint the light source, then finally tweak the lighting effect as needed. I can't describe it any better than that but that's the process I use. Basically you have to do it successfully once to figure it out. Took me nine tries to get something even remotely successful so don't give up!

So, I got in a full weekend of modeling and painting, and this is the result of it! A no longer WIP sorcerer (counts as sorceress). I had a harder time than expected with the source lighting, especially trying to work in NMM with it. I am not 100% satisfied with the results! but am happy enough with them to move onto my next protect. Thanks all with the advice from the WIPs!

1) the overall model:

2) that's one mean looking face:

3) Sauron's eye:
