Facing VC with the FAQ's info.
Lifetaker: No longer affects ethereals.
Winds of Undeath: No longer affected by the Ring of Hotek.
Ugh. So annoying.
It seems that the 'Ring of Hotek as only magic defense' got toned down a lot with the need for spells to have a specific target within the 12" ...
And Wraiths just got a ton harder to deal with when using low magic army.
Sure, Master or Dreadlord with Magic Weapon can deal a few wounds on them.. but ultimately, especially with the Helm of Command being so popular... without going the magic route (which VC can easily counter with an easy to have 7+ dispel dice), we're sitting ducks against Ethereals. Oh sure, they can be crumbled, but they usually outmanoeuvre CR blocks with ease.
What to do what to do..

I'm with Dalamar here. The BSB on steed with pendant and sword of might (full mundane 2+ armor) it excellent against wraiths, especially if you launch him from within Black Guard (since he will not have to take a terror test then).
Just some math:
- on the turn this BSB charges wraiths, the chance for wraiths to win the combat is 0.7%, and the chance to draw is around 11% (don't remember this second number exactly)
- on subsequent turns, with hatred lost, it's around 4% (don't remember the exact number)

I really don't understand why the BSB of anti-doom is so good against wraiths.
I mean, he doesnt have to take a terror test if launced from BG, and he has +1CR, pendant and magic weapon... But how will he survie the banshee shooting attack? Ok, he might survive the first stand and shoot, and then kill her, but the VC player will just res her again...

The Banshee's scream works like this.
The VC player rolls 2d6+2 and for every point that beats your leadership value that's how many wounds you take with no armour saves or more importantly without a strength value. Also it has an 8" range so most of the time the stand and shoot will be resolved at the BSB. One lucky roll of a 9+ or 10+ if near the General, is enough to kill him. Also the Banshee can shoot in combat so he's not even safe there.
I'd just use magic to kill them, Bladewind was made to kill them and chillwind can do some damage and negate their shooting. I'd never even think about versing VC without at least two sorceresses and the ring.

Dark Elf Tally using the 6th Ed. list
W: 11 D: 2 L: 8
Dark Elf Tally using the 7th Ed. List
W: 24 D: 2 L: 6

The VC player rolls 2d6+2 against the targets leadership. If the result is one higher than the targets leadership you get one auto-wound, if its two higher, you get two and so on.
That means the VC player must roll 8 or below if you are to survive. If he rolls 7 or below, you dont recieve any wounds.
The banshee can ALWAYS shoot, even when in combat and at the unit/model she is engaged in combat with.
