My first tournament in 10 years...

Post by Ozur »

So I decided to join a tournament in town. Last time I did was a long, long time ago, so I feel a bit rusty and could use some advise.

The rules are: 2250 points, only 1 of each rare unit (except bolt throwers), max 10 power dice and you're allowed 1 special character. I don't really like playing with special characters, but thought since it's allowed to use one I may as well make a list with a special character.

So, after some messing around with the army list and different ideas with Malekith and Morathi. I ended up with this list...

Morathi on Sulephet: Darksword, Black Dragon Egg = 510p
Sorceress: Level 2, Dispel Scroll = 160p
Sorceror: Level 2 = 135p
Death Hag on CoB: BSB = 225p

21 Warriors: Shield, standard, champion = 159p
10 Crossbowmen: Musician = 105p
5 Dark Riders: RXB = 110p
5 Harpies = 55p
5 Harpies = 55p

12 Black Guard = 156p
12 Witch Elves = 120p
7 Executioners = 84p

2 Bolt Throwers = 200p
War Hydra = 175p

Total: 2249 points.

My idea is to use relatively cheap units to keep the enemy busy, while hitting hard with magic and some shooting. I'd like to add some more command to my elite units and to maybe increase my magic defense by adding another dispel scroll, but I cant find anything to remove to get the points for that.

Dropping Moranthi for a lvl 4 would save you about 150 points, and make people like you more. Give the BG a banner and the witches a hag with MB. The exes are fine as they are. More goodies on the other 2 lvl 2 would be good as well.

Hydras are best as flankers and flamers, with the S-5 flame template being great for big squads of enemy. They will tned to lose in combat to the front of ranked up units.

Morathi should always get FF.

I agree with grant morathi needs a FF instead of the egg and a level 2 needs the dagger so you can get more out of your magic phase but it is a nice list.

I did consider taking a normal Sorceress Lord instead, as it would give the last points I need to complete the army. But then I will lose the +1 bonus to casting, which I think is a huge bonus, as well as losing the 4+ ward save and magic resist 2.

FF on Morathi does make more sense than the Egg though, will change that and also get the Dagger.

btw, Marauder Mitch2, wouldn't happen to be the marauder named Mitch on the Karak Orrud server?

Updated armylist...

Morathi on Sulephet: Darksword, Focus Familiar = 505p
Sorceress: Level 2, Dispel Scroll = 160p
Sorceror: Level 2, Sacrificial Dagger = 160p
Death Hag on CoB: BSB = 225p

20 Warriors: Shield, standard, champion = 152p
10 Crossbowmen: Musician = 105p
5 Dark Riders: RXB = 110p
5 Harpies = 55p
5 Harpies = 55p

11 Black Guard = 144p
12 Witch Elves = 120p
7 Executioners = 84p

2 Bolt Throwers = 200p
War Hydra = 175p

Total: 2249 points.
