Hi guys. This is my first attempt at writing a list for 2015 with my new Dark Elves, it's based on ETC because a few of the tournaments here follow those rules, though I have no interest in ETC itself.

I'm coming from a Skaven background, so elf lists or MSU is really new to me. I'm not particularly competitive, but having run themed Skaven lists for a while I wouldn't mind having something that might cause people a few more problems than misfiring WLCs. Constructive criticism appreciated.

For feedback purposes, the meta is almost entirely based around BotW Dragon/bus list Elves, flying circus/troll Warriors and Daemons full of Beasts of Nurgle.

Cheers

Looks very nice but the Lv2 is overkill with a SS and Warlocks.

Use the points for a Dawnstone on the Lord and more bodies.

The level 2 is only there because (a) I wanted the Earthing Rod on the SS in case something goes wrong, so need someone else to carry the Dispel Scroll and (b) I thought some backup Metal might come in handy against the high armour saves on Warriors e.g. Skullcrushers.

I agree that it's overkill and the Dawnstone would be nice, but the fear of a terrible miscast and losing the SS is a bit too much. Maybe i'm just over thinking it because i've lost two Grey Seers in 6 games due to rolling double 1s on the misfire chart!

I'm also interested to hear what people think would work well, magic wise, for an army like this. I'm torn between Life or Shadow on the Lvl 4. Life maybe not so good in MSU? I'm not used to having access to the rulebook lores because I could only use Plague or Ruin before.

It's your list but in my mind the Lv2 will be starved for dice, taking up points while you are short on bodies.

ToP is all the miscast protection you really need + the Dispel Scroll can fit on the SS.

Death, Shadow or Metal would all synergise well with this list, and you have the 'Locks for Doombolt and Soulblight (and risky casting attempts).

...but everyone's playstyle and game experience is different :)

(You do lack armour penetration, so if you are going Metal even a Lv1 will do)

Death would have been my first choice, but it counts as 2 choices and i've already used my 5 (mounted Dreadlord and Master, two sets of Warlocks and bolt throwers). That also affects the number of bodies I could add because i'd have to lose one of those mentioned if I was to excede the 80 shot limit, so in terms of extra bodies I could probably only add Witches.

I'm thinking Shadow would be best. Like I say, i'm not used to rulebook lores, but by my reckoning Life is better served with an army that's using larger units, am I right?

Life is a good lore for infantry heavy lists especially. It has the nuke threat, the embedded unit and single model buffs ...but lacks a little in pure killing power and unpredictability.

I'd probly go Shadow or Metal with this list. Both have nuke spells as well as more ways to hurt the opponent.

This list looks really nice, I hope you don't mind if I play test it myself along my own list :D :D

This is my advice too. You have 10 levels of magic, and Metal on SS and dual Warlocks might be nice combination for magic phase. Your SS won't miscast a lot when Warlocks eat a lot of your dice and metal spells don't use up so many dice to cast spells

Too bad you can't have more shooting, because CoC or similar would be nice to protect your backline from harassers and to make combo charges. I calculated that you have over 80 shots per turn: 20 from DS, 20 from DR, 24 from RBT and 24 from Shades, that totals 88 shots per turn... You could easily drop crossbows from one unit of DR, or maybe even from both units. Then you could have more shades/DS to fill up the rest of the shooting (12 shots to use).

So swapping Rod to Scroll and dropping lvl2 and crossbows from DR should free you 170 points (177p in total) and 12 shots/turn. You could get Chariot 115pts PLUS 4 DS 48pts+shields 14pts or 3 Shades with GW 54pts.
Chariot+DS option is exactly 177pts, and Chariot + shade option is 169pts.

You would keep the same number of shots per turn, but with more compact magic, more bodies and possibly more flaming shots and sturdier DS unit, that could help WE in combat by flanking

You have 5 Fortitude, and this year you have to think about it too. If your general is killed or you loose 2 standards in Blood and Glory, your army breaks. Maybe adding one standard would help. Maybe you could put standard on one unit of DR or Shades. But then maybe yo would like to bulk the unit up a little.

edit: And oh yes, I would drop the pegasus on SS too. You don't need her to fly around, and she is not well protected enough to do it safely. I you mount her on horse, she has lots of fast cav units to hide in, and infantry units if you place her on foot. Take you pick, either way would be fine, because most lores you should use with this list have long ranges (Shadow, Metal, maybe even Heavens. Metal would be my pick). Dropping pegasus gives you points for extra banner and bulking up the banner unit...

By the way, I noticed that you DS unit costs 5 points too much. it is 150pts (10x12pts +30pts). And you DL does not have heavy armour?.. He has only 2+ save now, and you got points for heavy armour. You should recalculate it too.

I would consider switching the dread lord for a regular hero, your spending 75 points on 1ws 1A and 1 Ld, not worth it IMHO.

Also mount your sorc on a steed, then get rid of the darkshards and ad more dark raiders.

If you simply must have WE, divide them in to smaller units and give one the flaming banner.

one of you shades units could use swamp GW for AHW, that way they will be more flexible.
