If it were me, at that level of just core and heroes, I think I'd strongly consider Beast magic. The signature spell for that would be AWESOME for your army at a points level that small. And you can always count on getting the signature spell, whereas the others are a total crapshoot at lvl1.
Having those witch elves be S4 T4 could be a real game breaker, and many other armies won't be able to take magic at all at that small of a points level.
Other than that, your base list is pretty solid, not a whole ton you can do within your restrictions.

Under those restrictions, I'd pick a Sorceress level 2 fire lore, with ruby ring of rhuin on a dark steed and 2-3 units of dark riders.
Do you have to reuse the same units later on? Can a sorceress swap Lore?

Fire is a spectacular lore sub 1000 points. Dark isn't bad as Doombolt will wipe whole units at 500pts and PoD has back up utility. But Fire has the range. Witch Elves are a great unit, but will easily die to enemy magic or shooting. Corsairs with AHW or Rhb, or Rxb w shields would give less attacks but more survivability to your infantry. Master on a DS or Daeron's other suggestion of Ruby Ring are other good possibilities. Enjoy your game & let us know what you decide to go with

I'd definitely look hard at the Beasts lore if you're keeping the Witch Elves, per Direweasel's comment. At T3 the 12 of them could get gobbled up quickly by a strong ranged list like the Wood Elves you say you might be facing.
Personally, being more defensive I'd go for the Corsairs with their 4+ save, take Beasts to buff them further, then roll the 24 pts saved going from Witch Elves to Corsairs into the Ruby Ring to give an offensive option and a second caster.
I might even look at putting the Master on a steed with the Dark Riders, to add three more Corsairs (or a Dispel Scroll, though that seems a but of a luxury % wise at this points level). That might make things a little more controllable, but possible less fun and exciting!

Yes, all units picked at start will be reused later on. After every match, units (and caracters) will gain experience and will get stronger (better stats, bigger units) After every battle, you can also earn points to get rare and special units... A little like Mortheim Sorceress has to start at lvl 1 I've used Beastmagic in the past and loved the combo (especially with the Doomlocks) So that could be a good idea. How about this: Master on darg Peg Full mundane (no shield) / Halbert and Luckstone Sorceress lvl 1 dark magic or beast 10 Blackark Corsairs FC add HW 10 Witch Elves FC

The Dark Pegasus does not count as a monster?
I came up with a quick 498 point list.
Master: Lance, Heavy Armor, Sea Dragon Cloak, Cold One, Dawnstone Sorceress: Level 1 (Doombolt) 15 Dreadspears: Full Command 10 Darkshards: Musician
While other core options are considered superior, I think that numbers count for more in games of this size, particularly with fragile units such as Witch Elves. Consider this: in one round of long ranged shooting, ten Darkshards would likely kill three Witch Elves. In a second round of short ranged shooting, the Darkshards would likely kill another five Witch Elves.
