As I plan my final 2,400 Autarii force for the mooted Druchii Invasion campaign, I'm looking at a Waystalker and see the Shield of Ptolos as an interesting way of forcing an opponent to dedicate proper resources to dealing with her.
However, is it legal - I thought it said somewhere that you can only take magic armour if you could take mundane too... But only having the IOB rule book, can't confirm that - am I remembering a different edition, or is it legal to equip a Waystalker with the Shield of Ptolos?
Any help appreciated as ever!

Armour restriction is for magic users only. In the same way, assassins may take shields & armour.

Thanks Calisson - massively appreciate the quick note. Think I'll go with that build against high shooting opponents. Have a great evening!

I don't see a point, just keep a waystalker in a unit.

That unit is a big target for every enemy countermeasure. Its nice for a 'naturally MSU' army to be able to withstand a bit of firepower once your bodyguard is dead. @OP, very nice find on that build

I thought it had changed so magic users could take armour? After the Slaughtermaster had an Ironfist or something? Chaos sorcerers get Chaos armour as standard :/

Magic users who have armour as standard, or who may take armour as part of their equipment options in their army list entry, may take magic armour. There are also a couple of items that specifically allow a wizard to take them without losing the ability to cast spells, such as the Nightshroud and the Warpstone Armour. To the best of my knowledge, the exceptions to the rule that "wizards can't cast spells if wearing armour" are Chaos Sorcerors (Chaos Armour), Vampires/Vampire Lords (various options), Butchers/Slaughtermasters (Ironfists), Loremasters of Hoeth (heavy armour) and Dragon Mages of Caledor (Dragon armour). There are also a couple of special characters who are exceptions, but they can't take additional magic armour.

In the AB it basicly says that he "May take Magic Items up to a total of 25 Points." So they can take anu combination including Armor, Talismans and Enchanted Items.

I was able to purchase it for the Waystalker in Battle Scribe... Maybe you could ask on Asrai.org and see what their opinion is?

I've got the WE book.
Waystalkers can take 25 points of Magic Items.
So yes, they can take the Shield of Ptolos (or Charmed, or Enchanted, or Glittering Scales, or Opal Amulet, or Potion of Toughness, or Ruby Ring, etc etc)

thanks guys tboh just what i wanted to hear. Waystalkers remain interesting and i have another argument against a regular oppenent who thinks just refering to armybuilder lists is just as good as using your AB.
