But with deathpiercer on your dreadlord you're risking quite a chunk of points if that killing blow charge fails. Master with deathpiercer has almost the same chance of getting that KB and in case he fails nothing is really lost. So your strength goes down in subsequent rounds, but you keep KB on y...

And in case anyone is thinking it or would - when you have the CD up against something like that stunty rune that says "[all attacks against bearer are reduced to S5]", this is a case where the direct conflict of two magic items can only be solved on a per-round of combat 4+ roll of the di...

They can't be ignored once they're already in combat, so you come into contact with the beastmaster if you flank the Hydra that's already in combat. But I think you ignore the Beastmaster for the Charge's reach - so if the flanker or whatever charges and can only reach the beastmaster, it'd be a fa...

If it's really a tough unit that won't be enough to lose by more than 1 at most, and usually those S3 wounds will be saved by armor by a tough unit. It's a crap item that may, just may kill a character with KB, meaning you've used a real hero slot and his full allowance and another for the COB... as...

Probably so ('cept maybe dragon mages), just saying it's a possible scenario whatever your interpretation of casualty is. Possible.. not plausible :P.

wound a dragon? its not a casualty so it can still use its breath weapon We had this argument before, I believe with no resolution. By definition (like in a dictionary) a wound is a casualty, but do they mean it that way? Don't know, another GW flop at the English language most likely. But - you co...

Well the fantasy version of WYSIWYG usually states that a magic weapon can be anything as long as it's a weapon right? Not to my understanding. If you're using (as WE) the Dawn Spear (counts as a spear), then your opponent gets to know that they are armed with a spear, so you should model it that w...

For modeling purposes just don't make Heartrender anything with special rules (spear, lance, 2-handed weapon, flail, halberd, or morning star). Clubs, swords, axes, daggers, one-handed scythes, forks, spoons, etc. etc. are all valid options.

Heh, spoon of justice...

IE Bretonnians are smarter than all the other heroes in warhammer, because they know that situationally +2S may be better than whatever else you're using. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. (Yes, this is a continuation of my feelings expressed many other places, including in the "what weapon to use when...

I third that, Zeth and Thomus. After my first 5 or so games with our new book I've got to say that I find I can't even get an effective magic phase without overspending on it. One of my opponents plays Brets. He spends 255 points on two level 1's with some scrolls and gives his two biggest units MR1...

They work great in harmony. DR are where I usually put my casters, but now I take 3 units of 5 harpies for march blocking, mage hunting, and crossfire. DR protect my sorcs as meat shields, yes, but also can shoot soft things and sometimes my mage will break away so that the unit can set up for a fla...

I was playing against Skaven the other day and bombarded by a bunch of S2 and T-test wounds from his magic. I was terrified my mage would bite it due to getting a small ward save and no ward save, respectively. If the item always failed on 1's also, it would be overpriced, IMO. I think they're just ...

The assassin is more costly than you need here and practically doubles the cost of your sorc, and depending on what charges that unit may not help. Then again, it will against small mage-hunting units.

Oh yeah, Darkwand's got a good point about placement.

I know and agree with "Armybook spell > Rulebook rules." and I feared that you guys might say this, about raise dead having partial immunity to the RoH, but doesn't that seem like crap for a spell which is clearly targeted? I hope they FAQ it in our favor (though doubt it).

When using the dagger you want cheap sacrifices, so naked spears are fine, but I take Lore of Metal so all spells are 24" range to avoid the problem you describe. Great lore, IMO. Otherwise I put my sorcs on DS'es and use ToF + powerstone in DR's, dark/death magic. So far they haven't been big ...

New RoH question: The VC spell Raise Dead says "If successfully cast, choose a point w/in 12" of caster, blahblahblah" Clearly you need to know where it's going to know if they miscast from RoH to know if you need to burn dispel dice/scrolls, or, is it not subject to the RoH magically...

Awesome # of harpies, too bad they're so expensive. But for a GT tournament you know what I'm afraid of for you? Vampire Counts' magic. You've got no defense against the 1-die spamming they can do, and the harpies will not be useful against all that fear if away from the general.

Now things to note there so that you don't overhype the manticore (though I like it) are: VC have no shooting, so it needn't fear that, though there is the rod of flaming death and the one MM in vampiric lore, as well as maybe one other bound item, but all of these can be dispelled (saving IF, of co...

Well, they can choose to attack either the monster or the rider, but as per the monster mount rules they count as one model, so I support the argument that it affects the mount in CC as well. Otherwise it's some darn-localized darkness ;)
