I ALWAYS use two hydras because I play a hammer and anvil list primarily. Except I get 2 hammers! I use my lord/CoKs/BSB on one flank and crush units. I use my 2 Hydras on the other. Together they cannot fail against anything.

I find that with these new dark elves I can either play completely without magic or totally magic heavy, never in between. I primarily go without magic with this list and others rather similar. Dread Lord- heavy armour, SDC, Cold One, Lance, Hydra blade, Potion of strength, PoK (Inverse save) 5 CoK-...

It's not as cheesy as 6 Salamanders... I used to run that... I didn't have many friends...

Keep in mind that Lokhir Fellheart can JUMP to any point in a unit, so you don't have to kill the guard if you have him. He can engage the slann anyway.
