Re: Rising from the Vault of the Dead....
Welcome back! Likewise, I'm rediscovering AoS and loving the new DoK book. They are pure offense and nothing like your father's Dark Elves, that's for sure. I'd love to chat about tactics, as soon as I figure out some things that work :-)

Re: Rediscovering AoS
Thanks for the direction. I've actually found that a builder isn't nearly as useful or necessary as it used to be with older versions of Warhammer where there were a lot more options. Still, I do miss the printup with all the units and their stats that you used to be able to get from AB. Flipping t...

Rediscovering AoS
Hello there old friends. I liked a lot of things about the initial release of AoS but after some play stopped messing with it due to the balance problem. Got involved in lots of other things, but just recently found out that GW came out with the Match Play rules. Picked up the 2017 General's Handbo...

Beyond the Gates of Antares
Hello there my old Druchii friends! I recently bought the starter set for Beyond the Gates of Antares, and I am stunned by how good this game is. Yet another game from Rick Priestley, this uses the same system as his highly successful Bolt Action WWII miniatures game. I'm curious if anyone else here...

Re: Holy **** Summoning
Kill the summonor as quickly a possible. As DE, we have RBT's that target nearly the whole tabletop if deployed correctly. I also save a unit of 10 Shades for deployment after I see where the opponent deploys his summonor. An extra sorceress on Black Dragon would also give you a model that can quic...

Re: Question On Specials?
If I'm doing a Sigmar army with 100 wounds and no named characters, it would be 10 Beastmasters on Manticores. While this might be playable, I don't think it would be as awesome as you might think. What we found is that in spite of our original expectations to the contrary, characters aren't all th...

They have shorter range, but it seems like a unit of 20+ Corsairs with a Fleetmaster would offer better probabilities.

Re: Dark Elves, Jorkar WarHost, 86 wounds
Lizardman armies can be quite a problem if they are magic heavy since they can summon pretty much any unit on their Warscrolls. I have seen 1 Slaan Mage Priest summon as many as 40 models in a single turn. It might be worth it to take one less Cold One knight and a couple of Dark Sorceresses on foo...

Re: AOS rules discussion: questions, suggestions...
Look at the big picture. Imagine what your interpretation means for units like Trolls, Putrid Blightkings or Nurglings - they would be almost impossible to kill (especially if they are greater than the minimum size). Now apply Occam's Razor here. Which do you think is more likely to be the correct ...

Re: Are you playing pure AoS rules?
Have people been playing true AoS rules? + Are you rolling to place terrain in each quadrant and rolling for terrain type? From there, have you tried dividing the table up based on the wishes of the dice roll winner? Or are you just splitting the board 50/50 like a battle line? Mostly yes. I say mo...

Re: Prices of models and hobby
This continues to be a legitimate gripe, and the reason why we call the game Crackhammer in my gaming group. Fortunately I have a lot of models I bought a decade or more ago and I have the bits to convert almost everything I need to play now. I have models for 4 armies (DE, Warriors of Chaos, Beast...

Re: Square vs Round and weapon range
Another observation on this subject: Having parts of the model extended beyond the base (a larger "footprint") can also hinder movement since you cannot move into enemy 3" zones of control during the movement phase. This makes units whose models have a larger footprint less maneuvera...

Re: Best Dark Elves Units in AoS
In 3 games, the Executioners seem to have been more effective to me. They chewed through Saurus Cavalry and Bestigors pretty well. As far as small 5 model units go, I am liking the Sisters of Slaughter. They work well to slow or block enemy movement using the 3" zone of control, and it's a bon...

Re: Pile in - How strict is it?
We've also been playing using the "Relaxed Pile In" method. The intent of the rule seems to be to allow both players to maximize contact whenever possible before making attacks during the Combat Phase. This interpretation allows for that. That being said, I wouldn't have a problem with pl...

Re: AOS game discussions: strategies, tactics...
....Additionally, you're giving the opponent the liberty to choose which models will be removed. While that's not as big a deal from a distance, it might matter eventually or in combat. I had my opponent take advantage of this very rule in the one game I've played so far. I had a Dreadlord on CO, a...

Re: First game of AoS, DE vs Warriors of Chaos
Iąm sorry but there is no tactical any thing in this game, you just push everything forward.... but you don't really need to do that as who ever has more elite models wins. I didn't want to write this earlier, as you took time to make this report, but all the AoS reports I read so far sound the sam...

Re: First game of AoS, DE vs Warriors of Chaos
From all the reports I've read so far it looks like AoS is an expensive card game with miniatures instead of cards. You build your "deck" based on synergies and then make them work in game. Difference being you start with all your "cards" available to you and don't need to count...

Re: First game of AoS, DE vs Warriors of Chaos
Among the first conclusions drawn from early batreps was the necessity to limit charges to one per turn, because of the alternance in melee. Do you have a comment on this tactical aspect? This is an interesting perspective, but I think I would disagree, in general. I think it is more important to s...

First game of AoS, DE vs Warriors of Chaos
Thanks to Barking Agatha for inspiring me to write this all out. For our first game of AoS we decided to put together a couple basic forces that would give us a taste of how the new rules work. By chance we ended up with exactly 75 models per side, though Chaos ended up with a slight advantage in t...

Yes, correct on both counts, but to be specific, I meant characters with the "Wizard" keyword, who can summon almost any unit on the warscrolls.
