Re: 9th age: Hydra or kharibdyss?

Kharibdyss with Alpha Predator is way too expensive for how easy it is to kill imo. I can recommend Hydras, though they're not fantastic. Good damage spunges and nice synergy with the Beast Master upgrade. They can also take a charge unlike Chariots and can assist your main units in fights without t...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

After much deliberation I've found the army that I'm going to be playing atleast untill the next rules update. Its not the most competitive choice, but it suits my model collection well. Most importantly I just like it. Seeing as I've been playing the horde style Khainite army for quite a while now,...

Re: 9th AGE: 1250 Points (lords excluded)

I really like the 100pt Raptor Chariot in Special, its a bit of a bargain imo. Overall I feel like the Manticore is the best character mount though, especially with Beastmaster. I still am not sure about the Pegasus. On one hand its fairly cheap and flexible, on the other its not nearly as tough as ...

Gem of Fortune - that is a great item, didn't see that till just now. Too bad about the model already being done.

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

Looks good, I think Auxiliaries work fine aswell in a control based army. You might have more flexibility with 2-3 units rather than 1 though, would also give you more scoring units. Heres a thought: Put the Oracle on the Dragon, shes going to be equally as tanky as the Dread Prince and could easili...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

Yeah, I did catch that. It certainly is a bit hampering, I can't say too much on that topic without some more playtesting I guess. I do think 116 pts for the Assassin is a bargain, and the Raven Cloaks are the obvious choice for him. Their effective range is 22"; march 10" - Shoot 12"...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

Surely you'll want shields on those dark riders? The musician is great to have but optional; the shields are a must though Yeah I think you're right, a little hestitant about the cost so I personally wouldn't consider them a must 100% of the time. If I'm playing a really aggressive and killy army t...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

I decided to go with the theme of the book and break down the armies into 3 main categories: 1. Yema General with Yema Corsairs for core and Dancers of Yema as the primary special choice. 2. Nabh General with Nabh Spears for core and Nabh Executioners as the primary special choice. 3. Nondistinct Ge...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

I hope nobody minds if I use this thread as a bit of a Work in Progress kind of a deal, as I expand my understanding of the 9th book. If I come up with something I feel is rock solid allround I'll post a new thread with final list(s). So get ready for some more lists dammit!

Re: My dirtiest uncomped 8th list 2500

Yeah I guess the 11th file isn't really strictly optimal, I just like to have the COB in the actual center of the unit. Though sometimes it does amount to more attacks. As I said I don't think this is the be-all end-all army, it just has a alot of elements that are perhaps a bit too efficient. I don...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

I guess a softer army (hopefully this changes), but an army that I'd prefer to play, would be something along these lines: Lords: Exalted Oracle (Black Magic) - Level 4, Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Shielding (265) Heroes: Captain (BSB) - Beast Bane Halberd, Crimson Mail (145) Assassin - Nightshade, A...

My dirtiest uncomped 8th list 2500

So, I'm pretty sure this list scores close to a minus in the Swedish comp system. Lords: Supreme Sorceress (Death Magic) - Level 4, Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Preservation, Dark Steed Heroes: Master (BSB) - Dark Pegasus, Lance, Heavy Armor, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak, Cloak of Twiliwght Death Hag - Ca...

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

I can also buy a unit of 5 raven cloaks with AHW for two breath attacks and general beastmaster (85 points). Will that be worth it? I have not much experience with the breath attacks, are those not important for killing infantry blocks? Its no longer the breath template, but simply 2d6 str 4 even i...

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

What about something like this: Dragonlord /w Flaming Lance+Divine Icon, Exalted on Steed /w Scroll+4WS, Manticore BSB, Nightshade Assassin, 2x10 DRs /w FC+Sh+Xbows, 6 DR /w Muso+Xbows, 5 Ravencloaks /w AHW, 6 Dark Acolytes /w Champ, 2 Hydras minus breath You could then put your Exalted Oracle in wi...

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

Heh, I guess there's nothing wrong with putting your Oracle into close combat. If I understand the rules correctly you are looking at a 6+ AS and a 5+ Ward on her? I'm not sure, it might be a little risky. Overall I agree with the principle of making the Dragon a bit more offensive. I'd be tempted t...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

I just realized that the Divine Blessing are applied at the start of the Game Turn and not the Player Turn. So even if I don't get first turn I can still put up the 5+ Ward on the Execs. So: Lords: Cult High Priest of Nabh (General) - Divne Alter of Nabh (310) Exalted Oracle (Black Magic) - Level 4,...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

I was fairly disappointed with warlocks because champion easily dies in combat or miscasts, but maybe you have more success! Well, luckily Dark Acolytes are still a very powerful unit even without the ability to cast spells. I included the 6th rider so that the champion cannot be picked off by Bolt...

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

You're definitely right that this is a very valid and powerful style. I played around with it a bit in the early 8th/late 7th army book and it was extremely strong, though Hydras back then were a whole lot more dangerous. Iirc my army had a couple of Manbane+Rending Stars Assassins and some Shades t...

Re: First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

Making a few changes, primarily to the Dread Legionaires as I don't envision 28 of them contributing too much. Also skipped the Crossbow bunker and put the Exalted Oracle on a horse with a Ward. Lords: Cult High Priest of Nabh (General) - Divne Alter of Nabh, Light Armour, Dragonscale Helm (328) Exa...

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

420pts for the Hydras seems a little bit heavy to me. Have you considered loading up on flying Captains with various configurations (or some Dark Acolytes) if you really want to play the avoidance game?

Re: 9th age Dragonlist log

I think I prefer the list in the OP, the 2nd one seems a bit limited on board presence and hammer units. If I was to change anything in the first list it would probably be dropping the Bolt Throwers, the harpies and some of the extra gear on the lvl4. Then I'd introduce a vanilla 10-12man unit of Ra...

First stab at a 9th age list - 2500(0.11.0)

Hello, haven't posted here in forever. I've been on the fence about getting into the 9th age, but I decided to finally give it a chance. I've yet to play an actual game under the new rules, so I assume there's going to be a lot of room for improvement in the list. I decided to stick to somewhat fami...

Re: how do I beat the new high elves?

Yeah the sisters are quite good if not dealt with. The best answer to them is speed I think, since they can't swift reform without a musician. Just vanguard/scout behind cover or out of sight with Dark Riders and Shades etc and run at their flanks, they'll be in trouble. If you try to face them down...

Re: RXB suck. Ya, I said it.

I have 3 different ways I use RXBs, and in my experience they all have merits. 1. Largish central unit in a defensive army with the Guiding Eye. 24" range is a real handicap if you are moving up aggresively on the board with your combat troops, as there will basically be no good window for the ...

Re: Lets build Me an army.

The Pegasus Master is a single model so to speak, he simply adopts the wounds and the toughness of the Pegasus as his own and the Pegasus still gets to attack and stomp in close combat. Only when riding Monsters or Chariots do the mounts function as seperate models that can be killed. Neither of the...
