Why would you ever give dark riders shields? Their fast cavalry rule is what makes them good, I'd suggest dropping those first and foremost. Honestly I don't know what you would do with the points but those shields don't do your riders any good at all.

False, this is just plain false. Against a unit of 5 models with 25mm, one of the handlers are in base contact with the 5th model. You basicly have 4 on the Hydra because they are 25mm and the Hydra is 50mm then the handlers has to be on one side of the Hydra which extend the reach of the frontage ...
