Re: Another old bloke back

Welcome back.

My oldest daughter turned 8 recently and we've started playing Pokemon together. Hopefully she'll be old enough for warhammer in the next year or two as well.

BTW, this site is basically dead, lol.

Re: The Oldworld: What we want and what we don'

8th ed was the zenith for me. You had a pretty perfect balance: - Big infantry hordes beat small elite units - Magic casters beat big infantry hordes - Small elite units beat magic casters Rules like steadfast and stepping up made armies feel more realistic. 7th ed was fun, but ultimately came down ...

Re: Is it time to close Druchii.net?

On the one hand, it's pretty clear that D.Net as a thriving active community hub is basically dead. It's been dead for a long time, sadly. On the other hand, it does possess significant archival reference value. It would be a shame to lose that. Imagine if it was deleted tomorrow and then you wanted...

Now that’s what I call a lengthy battle report.

Sounds like a tough game; always frustrating to forget rules but it happens. Good luck with the next bout.

Re: Treasure Horde Board Game

It looks fun, but a few comments (if I may): - It looks very much like Heroquest. I assume that is what you were going for, but I guess it made me wonder what made your game worthy of purchase rather than just getting that game instead? You could potentially make that clearer up front - what does th...

Re: The Dark Princess Returns (sort of...)

Age of Sigmar was the catalyst, sadly. There was a lot of argumentation in the run up to its launch about whether or not D.Net would survive losing the core game that fueled interest in the site. I was one of the doomsayers, who was contradicted by lots of positivists who claimed that the site would...

Re: Dark elves mounted and monster - 2K

From a fun-level point of view, unless your opponent is running an equally cheesy list, your list is going to be pretty miserable to go up against. 3 Hydras is too many. Even in the new book, they remain very strong and at 2k you are really being cheeky by having so many. Go with at most 2. This lev...

Re: [PLOG] Restoring my Old World Dark Elves

I love the older models. My army has 60 old school dark elf warriors as Bleakswords. It helps that they dirt cheap on ebay (at least they were back when I was collecting, I've not had to look for a long time now). A trick to rank them up is to put half of them at the front of the base and half of th...

Re: Where to put the sorceress

The various talismans are possibilities, but they also put the price up, so you protect her better but the risk you run on her becomes higher. If pressed, I would take the Talisman of Endurance (5+ ward save for 30 points), but mostly I just ran her naked if she is in a horde anvil unit and make sur...

Re: Where to put the sorceress

One other option, while I think of it, is to put your level 4 in a unit of warriors that already has five characters: e.g. a unit with a full command, a battle-standard bearer or general, and a level 1 sorceress with a scroll. That bumps the level 4 back into the second row (assuming you run the uni...

Re: Where to put the sorceress

I usually ran one level 4 in a bunker of warriors (spears or swords) with an offensive magic item of some kind. Then I had a level 1 with a dispel scroll in with my RxBs. That way, the level 4 had the bulk of the warriors to keep her safe, but was also able to get into a part of the battlefield wher...

Re: Oldhammer Observation on Later Decades of Codex Threadmill

I remember going to the big sale at my local GW store when growing up as a kid. I must have been about 9 or 10 and it was in the Hammersmith store (the original store, now long since closed). It was the sale that accompanied the arrival of 4th edition, with all of its army lists. The sale was essent...

Re: How to beat Lizardmen Army and Fiery Convocation

In both games, you had a huge amount of points bound up in a big infantry block. 20 Blackguard means that you have a minimum of 300 points in a single unit (and I'm guessing that you also had a full command on it, maybe with a banner, and maybe with a character or two - netting you at more like 400 ...

Re: How to beat Lizardmen Army and Fiery Convocation

8th edition was always a game of Scissors, Paper, Stone: - Small units get beaten by big units - Big units get beaten by magic users - Magic gets beaten by small units Your first mistake was taking a block of 40 spearmen in a 1000 point game - that's a huge chunk of points, especially as I assume yo...

Sadly, I don't think it's the image uploading issue that has killed this forum. There just isn't the player base anymore. Spending a lot of time and energy fixing the image uploading issue isn't going to resolve that.

Re: Converting WHF fan fic into None Warhammer fic

I think it's an interesting idea, but I'm a little confused as to what you are intending this lore to be for. Is this the creation of an army book for a game kind of like warhammer? a novel you are writing? something else? If it's for a novel, I think you are investing your energy too much into crea...

Re: Original metal manticore (6th edition army book) base si

That is correct. The last manicure was on 50mm by 100mm IIRC. GW went that way towards the end, it was part of their make monsters and everything bigger so that they looked more powerful and they could charge more for their purchase.

Re: Original metal manticore (6th edition army book) base si

The original manticores (back in the days of 3rd ed) were on 40mm bases. The general rule was always that you should use the base that the model came with. If it did not come with a base, it's pretty much up to you as to how to base it - there are two main philosophies: i) pick a base that seems rig...
