Re: Why take Bleakswords and other noob Q's.
I have a hard time justifying bleakswords as well. Considering that in close combat, darkshards are just as effective AND darkshards have a decent - not great, but decent - shooting function, there doesn't seem to be much purpose to bleakswords. I've used bleaksword models to bulk out darkshard unit...

Re: Playing against Vampire Counts in 6th
The other option is to use mobility and avoid the big skellie blocks while running around killing off the rest of the army, try to win on points.
Not too useful in objective secnarios, though.

Re: Playing against Vampire Counts in 6th
6th is a bad edition for Dark Elves, the army book is very weak that edition. Your vcitories are going to be hard won regardless of what you do. Of course, this makes those victories all the more sweet when they do occur. Best I can come up with is a sacrificial combat character who can charge the n...

Re: [PLOG] Restoring my Old World Dark Elves
Cut off the tabs and put them on non-slotted bases? Would it really help? Without the tabs, you can turn them to face whatever way you wish. The trick will be getting them facing forward without bashing the guy next to them in the shoulder. A slight angle might help. Get some blue tac and experimen...

Re: [PLOG] Restoring my Old World Dark Elves
Oh, yes, finecast was their answer to the high cost of white metal alloys. They could use resin in the metal molds just fine.
It would have been nice if they had any sort of quality control to go with it, though...

Anything with shields, you're better off doing the shields separately and attaching them after painting is complete.

Re: Dark Elves vs Bretonnians 1500 pts (Warhammer Renaissance ruleset)
Just noticed. Bretonnian armies traditionally REQUIRE a Paladin BSB. No mention of one on his list. Part of the Renaissance changes, I presume? I'd like to see these rules. It sounds like Bretonnia got a much-needed buff - and perhaps a bit more - while Dark Elves got heavily nerfed down from their ...

Re: Dark Elves vs Bretonnians 1500 pts (Warhammer Renaissance ruleset)
First off, what I'm about to say is all predicated on WFB: 6 (for the Brets) and 7-8 (for the DE). I have no idea how the changes in your house rules affect this. What's the point level of the game? DE seem fairly low point while Brets seem pretty high. Next. Shades and Dark Riders will smash Bret a...

Re: Tactics for positioning units
Okay, 'step up ' does give the executioners a chance in big enough units. Realistically, you're not going to get the charge in against a competent Bret player. Just isn't going to happen. People who play Bretonnians are generally either complete newbs (and those are very rare now that Bretnnia is ou...

Re: Tactics for positioning units
So if the executioners get the charge, they strike before initiative then? Then that should work. A decent DE anvil should hold a single bretonnian charge just fine, especially if some joker issues them rubber lances again. The fun part will be if he brings several lances and does a combo charge on ...

Re: Tactics for positioning units
Depends. Do charging units still get to strike first like they did in early editions, or are they strictly in initiative order like 8th? This makes a big difference as to how you want to handle Knights.

Re: New player and super noob druchii general! But i hate HE
In many ways, gunlines are beaten in the 'setting terrain' phase. If you suspect that your opponent is shooting-heavy, you put LOS-blocking terrain in the middle of the board within charge range of both deployment zones. That way you can advance into the terrain without getting shot at, they get one...

Re: New player and super noob druchii general! But i hate HE
It's a good price for them, even better if they're the old minis. The new ones are rather ugly, in my opinion. Black Guard and Executioners do different jobs. Black Guard are good at holding against a bigger unit; Executioners butcher high toughness and heavily armored targets. Against High Elves, B...

Re: New player and super noob druchii general! But i hate HE
I did a lot of conversion work in my DE, so my Warlocks were reasonably cheap. WE Glade riders for horses, legs, and torsos; corsair arms with the mail trimmed off and one weapon removed; corsair heads without the helmets. All bits acquired from e-bay lots. Paint in suitably dark Druchii colors and ...

Re: New player and super noob druchii general! But i hate HE
Take two units of warlocks. They're cheap. Elven archery is legend, but that legend is generally overblown in WFB. Thus, our do-gooder cousins rarely take very many of them. Repeater crossbows, on the other hand, will devastate high elf infantry formations. A largish (20+) unit of Darkshards will ra...

Re: Original metal manticore (6th edition army book) base si
Another option for winged models is just to bring the wings up to try and match the height of the new models, and allow your opponent to draw LOS to the monster that way.

Re: Original metal manticore (6th edition army book) base si
For a long time large monsters were on the 50x50 'large monster' base. Then size creep did it's thing and some models would no longer fit, so base sizes crept up with it; 50x100 all the way up to 100x150. If I'm running an older monster that's a lot smaller than the latest model, I'll often put a ba...

Re: New DE armybook RULES analysis
Quick Question: In 6th 7th 8th editions it says you can use “something” once per: battle, game. Is the game considered a battle? Are those terms interchangeable? Or does a battle mean once per battle with a unit, and it can be used in other battles against other units? Without having a specific exa...

Re: Pinning the Manticore Beastmaster
It's really only good for filling small gaps. Even then, it can take several applications to fill even a fairly small area.
It's not actually any sort of putty. It's more of a really thick paint than anything else, except you can sand or file it to a smooth finish.
