Re: Bases question

I believe all the AoS cavalry models use the oval bases, certainly I think it looks better than circular ones. You could probably fit them on 60x35 bases, but I find that a tad too small for the 'heavy cavalry' look of the Drakespawn knights, so I went with 75x42, which is perhaps a little too big, ...

Re: Show us Your Hydras and Kharibdyss (pic heavy)

I believe the Helicoprion models which put the tooth-whorl at the front of the jaw are somewhat updated nowadays, more recent evidence suggests the spiral configuration was likely set deeper inside the mouth, as smaller variants are found in other, similar species. Regardless the Kharybdiss model is...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

The price-point on Silver Tower is pretty high, no question, but I would say it is worth it, the game itself is a lot of fun, good for both warhammer vets and general boardgaming, and the miniatures are top notch, plus you can use them in AoS if you want, I'd say it's especially worth it if you have...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

I finished up the Silver Tower minis, ended up rushing over the last few familiars to get everything done in time for a trip to Warhammer World, but it looks much nicer now that everything is done and based. I'm no good at the vibrant blending Tzeentch stuff tends to favour, so it is perhaps a littl...

Sure, I'll bite, I've only got the one Hydra, but I'm pretty pleased with how it came out: http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n498/Halos_Nach_Tariff/DSCN0337_zpsa7s5fcsl.jpg http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n498/Halos_Nach_Tariff/DSCN0339_zps3pogt5wp.jpg http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n498/...

Re: List?

I've been playing with that Ebonhost list (mostly cos I don't have enough battleline units for anything else) it is fun, and looks great, but the dragon is the only really good unit in there (though, in fairness, it is really good) everything else barring the Hydra is a little fragile. That said I h...

Re: Season of War - website online

In fairness I'd probably rather have Order win anyway, seems the most likely option for advancing the plot (for a given, GW, value of 'advancing' in any case) Chaos winning isn't a huge change from the status quo, Destruction and Death could be entertaining, but the former mostly just want to punch ...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

Looks like if my local store starts sticking to the points system in the new handbook (when it's released) then I'm gonna need some more basic infantry grunts to make most legal armies, so I guess a couple of boxes of Darkshards will be my next project at some point. In the meantime I'm chewing slow...

Re: Season of War - website online

I was gonna make some counters like that anyway, my local store is awarding them when you get 4 points for the campaign, via games or painting or whatever. Seems like a pretty neat set-up, the campaign doesn't require a lot of knowledge of the lore or story, or, at least, you can engage with it on w...

Re: Witch Aelves

I've been using them to some effect, it's a matter of target saturation, sure your opponent can probably shoot them off the board, but you need to put pressure on those shooty units with other stuff to force them to take hard choices. Also note not all armies are laden with shooty stuff, and even if...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

I've been a tad ill lately, which doesn't leave much motivation for painting, though I did pick up Silver Tower as a self-pity purchase, so I'll be working my slow way through that when I can. In the meantime I did this thing, counting as Morathi, or some sort of High Sorceress, or something, mostly...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

I've found the time to finish up some stuff: A Death Hag, using the Sorceress head from the Black Dragon kit cos I like it, I was tempted to use the ponytail off of the statue of Khaine instead to make it look like she'd tied back all her witch elf hair, but this look okay I think, the hair is blowi...

Re: New to AOS and i need some help :)

My suggestion would be that if you stick to Exiles models which are printed in the Order Battletome (which is pretty much everything bar the older, non-plastic kits) then you should be fairly safe. So far in AoS there has not been much focus on redoing entire lines, but rather small sub-factions, th...

Re: Well Played GW

AoS updates tend to be in small factions, ie. Ironjaws or Flesh-Eater Courts, rather than entire ranges. I would imagine starter boxes for aelves will only show up when they get round to re-packaging the relevant boxes with round bases for one faction (Daughters of Khaine, Order Serpentis, etc.) or ...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

Green stuff would certainly be the cheapest option, but I am not hugely confident enough in my sculpting ability to make that look any good. Plus, having looked at the Medusa model more closely the torso is really too big for a Sorceress stand-in not to look out of place, so back to the drawing boar...

Re: Gold Paint Advice

I like to start with a brown base, Scorched Brown normally, but different browns produce different results. Then Auric Armour Gold, a light Sepia wash over the whole area to take some of the shine off and produce a nice tint. After that's dried an Agrax Earthshade wash into the deeper recesses/shado...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

Not a game series I'm particularly familiar with, but video game lava level was part of the intent with these bases, so I'm glad that came across. If I may I'd like to pick some brains for a moment. I grabbed a Cauldron of Blood kit up as my next project, which, of course, also means I can make a De...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

I did the photos for this several days ago, but haven't had chance to post; a tutorial for lava bases ala Catrine. Again, nothing fancy, you could almost certainly achieve better effects via, I dunno, wet blending or glazing or something, but this is how I've been doing it. --- First of cover all yo...

Also of note in the background, Tree-Kin of some sort with a bow, plus the multi-armoured, kina insect-y tree kin in the foreground, possibly a dual kit? Also some half-tree half-elves that are more elf than tree compared to the previous artwork. Also, also, the giant beetle has a little saddle on i...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

Thanks very much! The Hydra had its inaugural game yesterday, in which it was jumped on by two Arachnorok spider and slain, but it not in vain as it provided suitable wriggly bait for the rest of the army to counter-charge and stab some goblins. Meanwhile I have been working on some more painting, a...

Re: [PLOG] Catrine's Paledrake Asterism

Very nice painting and lava effects on the Hydra, but I have to agree with Calisson. Big monsters really benefit from having the gaps between the pieces filled. Reluctant as I usually am to recommend GW modelling supplies, their Liquid Green Stuff actually works really well for this. Mm, part of th...

Re: Dream New Model?

Seems a safe bet that there will be a 'big kit' of some sort, perhaps a re-imagining of the dragon set, I'd like one with mounted options for either dark or high elf heroes. It's hard to say what else might roll off the line without further info on the state of the elves in AoS, Silver Tower is the ...
