Re: AoS Grand Alliance : Order, things I don't understand

AoS is a different game, with a different setting from the Malus Darkblade books. However, the Order alliance is not a brotherhood of noblebright good-guys, but an alliance of dire necessity between factions who might hate each other, but hate Chaos more. Think Churchill and Stalin allied against Hi...

Re: AoS seems... interesting (also I'm back! ish?)

you also can't just walk around the enemy unit, your pile in move needs to bring you closer to the nearest enemy model that you started by They changed the wording of that for 2nd edition. You just need to end the pile in move no further away than you started, so you can slide around the enemy mode...

Re: AoS seems... interesting (also I'm back! ish?)

Well, bearing in mind I've not played the new edition of AoS yet... SoS have a two inch range on their melee attacks, which for large units is very useful. Witch Aelf units of more than 20 will have trouble all getting close enough to attack, but SoS are less likely to have that problem. Also, Dance...

Re: Quick 'n' Dirty Raised Rune Sculpting Tutorial

The thing I always find difficult (apart from keeping things symetrical) is making sure the greenstuff actually stays stuck to the surface and doesn't slide around or delaminate. The tutorial images there show it on a (rough textured) slottabase, but you're pretty much never going to be sculpting ru...

Didn't Leonardo supposedly never sleep for more than 10-20 minutes at a time anyway? Or am I thinking of someone else? So maybe he didn't actually use the bed.

Re: Bloodbeard's Corrugated Scrap Metal Wall Tutorial

Very nice! I have to say, though, that cut up bits of sprue always end up looking like... cut up bits of sprue. For a little bit more money, some extruded plastic I-beams (also available from GSW) would look so much better for the support structure.

Re: Weird Machinery Illustration (2017 Image Salvage)

I visited Clos Lucé a few years back. Cool though the models were (there were only a few back then), my most vivid memory is of how freaking tiny Leonardo's bed was! Which is strange, because he was apparently a pretty tall guy for his time period (5'8"). He presumably slept sitting up...

Looking good so far. I think it could do with some more work on the hooves, though - they're too smooth and 'unfinished' looking. And I'd definitely get rid of the bum-boobs.

...And yet it was so unpopular that it killed the franchise . This is me speaking as someone who used to work for GW and still has friends there. The flow of new people into the WHFB side of the hobby pretty much disappeared thanks to 8th edition. Hardly anyone who didn't already own hundreds of pou...

Re: Dark Elves Starting Army

If you don't want to be restricted to a single subfaction, then you will need at least 2 units of Darkshards, Dreadspears or Bleakswords, because Witches and Corsairs can't be taken as Battleline units in a mixed force. Now that the DoK battletome is out, this is no longer accurate. Witch Aelves an...

Re: i'm i the only one around here still playing 8th ed.

I think if GW were to re-release WHFB as a specialist game, they'd be better off going with one of the older editions rather than the one that drove the franchise into a ditch. I'd love to see 6th edition updated with all the new troop types that were introduced later, like the kharibdyss and medusa.

Re: Coming back from WFB and not sure where to start with Ao

There isn't a specific board here for AoS lists because there are, unfortunately, only a couple of us here who play AoS. The fracture in the WHFB playerbase when AoS appeared hit especially hard at Druchii.net. You can play a combined Druchii army with most of our old units (no harpies or reapers, t...

Re: Any future?

Yes sad indeed - even after a major release in the past few months with Daughters and Deepkin. I really think GW have themselves to blame for this mess, they have well and truly nerfed the community since end of times. Sad times indeed. What mess? AoS is doing fine, and both new aelven factions hav...

Re: AoS 2.0 Elven Faction Focus

I'm glad the Azyrite aelf factions still have a place in the lore. I had been a bit worried that the new edition was going to retcon them out of existence and leave the souls-rescued-from-Slaanesh aelves as the only ones.

Re: Dark Elves Made to Order incoming!

There is no 'again'. GW never completely stopped producing minis in metal. Almost the entire SoB range for 40K is still metal, for example. The moulds for plastic, metal and resin minis are different. Some previously metal minis had new moulds made to cast them in resin when the original metal mould...

Yeah, that's pretty much me now GW have finally confirmed they really are doing plastic SoB next year. Although it wasn't the weight or paint chipping issues, but more the price and difficulty of converting metal minis.

The rumour is that their magic allows them to create areas that are somehow both water and air at once, so they can breathe and walk around and blow warhorns and so on, but their fishy mounts can still swim and use their gills. Basically, "We're (a)elves, we tell the laws of physics to sit down...

I'm especially pleased that every unit appears to have a good mix of male and female models. Maybe GW really are serious about increasing female representation in their games?

Also, I can see loads of bits with conversion potential for my Slaanesh mortals army.
