Assuming that the target of the rewrite is to bring the book to a power level in line with the ones that have been released recently I'd do the following: Rare: Hydra: The hydra itself doesn't benefit from Hatred, has a S4 breath weapon (all the time), and loses an attack for each wound suffered. 25...

My take on this is that I agree with the analysis of both posters, but I agree with Dalamar's conclusions more. Firstly, there is no doubt that 8th IS less tactical than 7th was. When looking at single units, their manovering and positioning was much, much more important. And a lot of this is due to...

I'm very surprised by a lot of peoples choices. Personally I love the current corsairs (although the metal ones are better), BG and COK. I agree that the new deamonettes stand out as a big step backwards compared to what was there before, but they aren't actually bad. I really hate the new minos tho...

@The Virgin Forest: You are looking at the wrong thing. We agree that the average number of wounds is the same if you need 5+ single shotting or 6+ multishotting. But if you multi shot you are more likely to do no damage at all than you are if you single shot. The below quote illustrates this perfec...

You are missing the point Dalamar. We agree that the average is the same in both situations. The difference is in how that average is acheived. As I explaied before, there is more chance of doing nothing if you multishot in such a situation. There is also more chance of doing loads of wounds as well...

If the average number of hits is the same, then it is always better to single shot. This is because the percentage chance of doing no wounds at all is higher if you multishot. It sounds counter intuitive, but if you do the maths it is true. This is because the vanishingly small chance of getting lot...

Choosing spells for a Grey Seer
Thought I'd ask this here after my experience at a tourney this weekend. Out of the 3 opponents I played all thought this should be done differently, so I am hoping that there is a consensus. My grey seer is allowed to choose spells from both plague and ruin lores. But how should I go about choosing...

It seems the main issues for taking the champ have already been covered. However, you have all forgotten the bonus 50 VPs for killing enemy characters in a challenge. While this may not seem like much, it can actually be a big deal in the new game, with the possibility of people fielding multiple ch...

1) he can be picked out of the unit because you get a choice of shooting the bell (which then can randomise into very squishy Grey Seer) or the unit. 2) you can charge the unit with 5 harpies, they will all contact the bell (they are on 60mm wide bases) and they can all allocate their attacks on th...

The real problem with the new warmachine rules comes when you factor in poisoned shooting. I know that only 2 armies (lizards and skaven) really have access to it but it really does make a huge difference. In one game I had in 8th with my skaven a single unit of 8 gutter runners took out a chariot i...

Having played 4 games of 8th now I belive the elite infantry are now the best units in the DE (and high elf) book. I've used my skaven in all 4 games vs DE, HE (twice) and Beastmen. I won all 4 games but the units which caused me most trouble in all 4 games were the elite infantry. My DE opponent an...

I can not justify to use the corsairs over witches. Yes the strike hard with sss but witches got poison. The corsairs can have characters but i use my witches as anti light infantery and they dont need anny characters for that. Point for point I agree. Although the armour on the corsairs does count...

Having often said under 7th that by taking corsairs over basic warriors you were always handicapping yourself (of course with Calisson vehemently disagreeing with me...), I am glad to be able to say that in 8th I think they are certainly worth the extra points. Extra Hws are brilliant in 8th because...

LOL, That's great that you think that its an advantage that your character dies so you could replace him with a WS4 S3 empire swordsmen. Right, in this case it isn't much of an advantage. But what if it was a unit of rat ogres (I4) with a (I5) champion fighting some I5 chaos warriors? The ogre cham...

Pretty important (IMO) combat question
Hiya. I have a problem with how combat attacks are worked out that I don't think the new book covers. Say I have 2 units in combat like this: SSSSS SSSSS SSSSS SSSSS EEEEC EEEEE EEEEE EEEEE S= skaven clanrat with hand weapon(I4) E= empire swordsman (I3) C=Empire Hero (I5) So, the hero, being I5 atta...

and the fact you keep it even if you lose your rank bonus in particular - have gone far, far too far the other way. I agree 100% with this. 2 ranks of cav in the flank should break an infantry unit. However, I can also see why they haven't done this - It would mean that small infantry units (15 ska...

@Bitterman: You seem to be forgetting that the cav unit in the flank WILL still win. They have a 2+ save and will be taking only 5ish attacks back since support attacks are only from the front. SUre, it may take more than 1 round of combat, but that enemy unit WILL break, and the knights will lose n...
