Re: 40K being AOS-ed Rumours
40k was born as a tactical skirmish game, fantasy was born as a strategic major battles game. Even going back to the two games that they had running as intro games at my local GW (now long since closed), the fantasy introduction game had 60 models (10 dwarves and 10 wood elves on the "good"...

Re: how many ranks to play with in 8th ed rules
You're thinking of 7th Calisson. I'm a bit rusty, but 8th ed was when I last played, so here is what I recall: - Hordes got better and initially warriors were an awesome choice. Then the 8th ed dark elf book came around and the price per model spiked by three points, which was dire. The Executioner ...

I no longer play, but those models do look pretty gorgeous - especially the whips on the girls, which look really cool. I'm sure that you will get some interested folk here

Re: Future DE - Strength and weaknesses
Long range shooting always seemed fairly at odds with Dark Elf culture to me. It's cowardly and contradicts Dark Elf martial values, and also prevents the shooter from being able to see their target up close to revel in their killing. Mobile shooting with close range missile weapons seems much more ...

Re: Paiting contractors
That's going to take a lot of pots of miniature paint to get done right! Perhaps a basecoating of Abaddon black, followed by a mixture of Averland Sunset - highlighted up with Balthasar Gold - and some inking with Mournfang Brown. It may take a few decades and several million dollars when using thos...

Re: [8th Edition] Bullshit Alarm and End Times Rules
They seem stupid fluff-wise Yes also heavily imbalanced Yes favoring hero-hammer instead of tactically rich combat Yes Are these official rules Yes or part of End Times? Yes if I can call bullshit No Best way to understand the changes was that they were intended to begin moving from a game of rigid...

Re: Warhammer 40K going Square bases
I'd say it looks silly, but 40k stopped being a sensible game a long long time ago. So why not go with square bases?

Re: Topic of the Week - New players
Thanks T.D., Rather a passing visit, I'm afraid I don't have a lot of input/comments I can make these days. I was initially a skeptic about 9th edition, but if the fanbase can keep it going, in some ways its nice to have a ruleset and army lists that are decided by the playerbase rather than a corpo...

Re: Topic of the Week - New players
Well, I used to be in a gaming community, in which I made some incredible friends, but then I moved countries, picked up a job I love but that eats up tons of my free time, had a daughter, and so haven't subsequently really got involved in a new club. So, I don't play anymore, although maybe that wi...

Re: Suicide Assassins
Yes, they are the ultimate enemy and fear of the West currently. But assassins also die quickly and often so this might be an trolling way to take revenge. Now both opponent and me will enjoy their deaths. Given that suicide bombers intend to die as part of their method, this makes no sense at all....

Re: Islamic State Assassins
No, not really. The suicide belts on the models are a particularly unfortunate touch. I can see that you are going for a comedic touch, but it's not very funny, so what's left instead is bad humor and a somewhat unpleasant taste in the mouth about the content of the models. If you want to troll them...

Very impressive - I love the way that the white foreground contrasts with the metallic silver backdrop, and the precision on getting the squares exactly right is breathtaking. Now, all you need to do is remove the distracting miniatures from the foreground and we can get a much better view of the ke...

Re: Topic of the Week - What if Morathi simply vanished?
If this had happened, might we not have seen a race to apocalyptic destruction via Slannesh, in the same vein as the fall of the Eldar in 40k?As a result I think the corruption created by Aenarion's hand would have remained "inside" the High Elven culture.

Re: Topic of the Week - 9th Age, does it grab your attention
See, I do wish them well and I agree, they have run themselves pretty decently thus far. That's not my reason for doubting. But, building on my earlier points and Phox532's insightful points as well, there are some hard truths for the developers: - Most of the player base is not reachable via the fo...

Re: Topic of the Week - 9th Age, does it grab your attention
Hmmm, sadly not really. Partly because of personal reasons and partly due to issues with 9th edition. Personal: - Not really war gaming at the moment due to ongoing relocations that have prevented a re-settling into a gaming community. - Just had a baby daughter, so no prospects of gaming for some t...

Re: Dread Elves Army Book is out!
Yes indeed - 8 points for standard heavy armour or just 2 more for blood armour, which is heavy armour plus its special ability. That said, it forecloses other magic armour options and forces the character wearing it to be on foot, so it has drawbacks too.

Although I'm not playing actively and am unlikely to do so at any time soon, I have to say these look spectacular. They appear engaging, well thought through, and suitably balanced. They capture the spirit of warhammer, without being a copy. Much Kudos to everyone involved!

Re: Topic of the Week - What if Morathi simply vanished?
Morathi was merely a vessel through which certain cosmic balances and imbalances worked. The tragedy of the elves, begun when Aenarion drew forth the Sword of Khaine, would have manifested itself somehow regardless of whether Morathi existed or not. Perhaps the exact shape and form of the story woul...

Re: Holy **** Summoning
Yes, but if you have 10 human warriors on the board and they are killed without a summoner present, they die and depart the game for good. If you have ten zombies on the board with a summoner and they die, they can be summoned again. Then if they die again, they can be summoned again. But those 10 h...

Re: Where are the Sisters of Slaughter!
Depressingly, it's probably underpinned a bit by the sexism that exists in our hobby. We have countless semi-similar units that do get included that involve males, yet because the units in question (witch elves and sisters of slaughter) are female, they have to be viewed as similar and thus bundled ...

Re: Holy **** Summoning
Say you have a summoner, and put 40 zombies on the side for summoning during battle. Nothing whatsoever in the rules of AoS prohibits the summoning player from deploying the 40 zombies in the first place, instead of having to summon them. I guess the summoner could resummon them when they are kille...

4th for the enchantment of the game. It was the birth of the fluff era and everything seemed exciting and new and fresh. The magic item cards were silly from a balance point of view, but they gave you so much choice. In fact, choice was much more present than now (both more and less than 3rd, but th...

Re: Dark Elf Corsair Ship
The sail is perfect! Now, on a practical, nautical point of view, the point where the sail is attached to the mast needs careful consideration. This kind of rigging must allow the sail to move from port to starboard when the wind dictates it. In order to achieve that, the sail would have to be fold...

Same points really - the color scheme looks good and works well, the painting has improved hugely which is great, but it needs more dry brushing to reach the next level.
