Re: 8th Ed: 1500 vs Bretonnia

Some thoughts: - Lore of metal is a bit cheesy against Bretonnia. Could you take something a little less tailored? - The master build seems weak. If you can find the points, I would put him on a dark pegasus with the Cloak of HG and Dawnstone, along with max mundane armour. Then he becomes a warmach...

Re: ASF and Hatred?

Calisson is right. The purpose of having both on Blackguard is that ASF only applies if your initiative is higher or the same than the enemy. So, if Blackguard are up against initiative 7 forces or against other ASF forces, then hatred kicks in. But yes, outside of those circumstances, it is redunda...

Re: [6th ed.] Double flee charge reaction. What happens?

I'm not sure that you are right Ming. IIRC, I believe that S2 would be caught and destroyed because fleeing is not done by examining the end point where units end up, but instead by the speed of their flight (after all, the units are moving at the same time, not the defender first and then the attac...

You're free to go look at the thread where this was discussed ad nauseam already. I see no purpose to rehashing it all here. Perhaps link to the thread so that newcomers can see to what you are referring - otherwise this is a bit like saying "the needle has already been placed into the haystac...

Re: i'm i the only one around here still playing 8th ed.

I was all for T9A when it was still "Nexthammer". Then it did a 90 degree turn and became "Nothammer" and I lost interest. If it works for you, more power to you. Go, play, have fun. I'll stick to 8th. I think the difficulty for 9th ed was always going to be whether it evolved o...

...And yet it was so unpopular that it killed the franchise . This is me speaking as someone who used to work for GW and still has friends there. The flow of new people into the WHFB side of the hobby pretty much disappeared thanks to 8th edition. Hardly anyone who didn't already own hundreds of po...

Re: i'm i the only one around here still playing 8th ed.

I think if GW were to re-release WHFB as a specialist game, they'd be better off going with one of the older editions rather than the one that drove the franchise into a ditch. I'd love to see 6th edition updated with all the new troop types that were introduced later, like the kharibdyss and medus...

I assume the fear is that listing WFB even just as a specialist game would compete with and undermine AoS.

Re: Any future?

I think, sadly, the forum's decline can be attributed to four major factors: - A gradual and natural drifting on of many of the forum's original inhabitants (due to work, kids, etc). - The decline of forums as a medium for discussion in general. - The arrival of AoS which, despite the good intention...

Perhaps. Given the options for fearsome sea beasts: sea serpents, giant octopi, giant squids, leviathans, sea dragons, and the like, a turtle seems... underwhelming.

Wait... did I miss something? What's up with the giant turtle?

I'm not sure they could have found a less scary marine beast for them to ride if they tried. What next? The release of the horrifying giant sheep of doom?

Seriously, though, I don't think GW intends you to sympathise with Morathi at all. Every bad thing that has happened to her is a result of her own selfish actions. Morathi isn't a victim of Sigmar's hypocrisy or anything like that. She's just a victim of GW's inability to write nuanced female villa...

Not sure I can lay claim to being one of the smart people you mention, but the short answer is that this community has all but died, bar some painting logs and an occasional question here and there. I believe some 9th ed players migrated across to the Ninth Age Forum, which you can find here: m It s...

Re: How to play without BSB?

You can play without a BSB, but you should make sure of the following if you want to do so: 1. Try to take higher leadership troops - i.e. 9 or above rather than 8. 2. Better yet, try to take troops who don't need to take leadership tests or have leadership bonuses (i.e. those with ITP, Fear, Frenzy...

As much as I dislike everything related to AoS and End Times, reading this still brings a warm feeling. Nah, this was an abomination. Even before the formal "reboot", to rip apart their own lore like that showed colossal disrespect to the fan-base and spoke to GW's "we don't give a f...

How about the old 4th edition reaper bolt thrower? It was much smaller, but still has a dark elf feel to it.

IIRC, they can't charge after doing a vanguard move or scout deploy, but they can charge if they didn't either of those things. I could be wrong on that though. It's not so much that you need a BSB near the hydras as you shouldn't be doing unsupported frontal charges with them. They should either be...

Re: 8th Edition 1000 points vs High Elves (Some large pictur

Yeah, that was probably always the way that battle was going to go. High Elves can be brutal against dark elves when they have a combined shooting and melee army. They bleed you to death from afar with archers and magic and then have a nasty kick with their melee elites when you get into combat. Hyd...
