New Citadel technical paints
There are apparently some new paints in the new releases section on the GW site. Looks like they've done a video for each of the new releases, too, such as this one for the cracked earth paint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFvzLX8CzrA&feature=youtu.be Thoughts, gentlemen? I think the typhus co...

Re: Finecast dead?
Don't PP still produce metal models in Liverpool and Mantic put out the odd mini too? Not to mention Foundry, Warlord Games, Perry Miniatures, Gripping Beast etc. You could argue that these are smaller manufacturers with nowhere near the amount of models they need to cast for their customers, but t...

Re: Age of Empires 2 new expansion
I might be tempted if they did a package deal with the HD version of the original as well, and at a bigger discount. But I think the game won't have aged well, especially the asinine AI (as in: if a scout passes by your army and then rides off, prepare to have your entire army strung out across the ...

Bit of a hiatus again. There's loads of models on the blog, but I had to share these ashigaru with you: http://abrushwithbattles.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/foto135.jpg?w=830&h=518 http://abrushwithbattles.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/foto134.jpg?w=830&h=518 Excellent models by the Perry twins.

Re: Witch Elf hair colours
If I were painting them I'd pick a hair colour that is both outlandish and contrasts well with the colourscheme of the regular units. Say, turquoise hair if you go for the standard purple and black scheme, or a poisonous green if you're painting them red. A spot colour like that will set these ladie...

At 60 euro per kit, GW would definitely like you to do just that

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
Wow, Thank you! Amazing sculpts, indeed. I've ordered one box of war of the roses mounted men at arms, and one of foot mercenaries. £. 40 for 12 knights and 40 infantrymen is really a bargain! Next buy will be "italian mounted command", representing famous florentines militia leader Nicco...

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
Hi Gnosis, I've been a DBM player in nineties, using 15 mm scale. I was very happy with rules, but I was unable to find plenty of opponents, and grew tired of repeating battles between free companies and italian condotta. I used essex and mirliton models. I'd be interested to know the manufacturer'...

Re: First step is to admit you have a problem
Not counting paints, glue, brushes etc. I think I spend about 300-400€ per year on the hobby. Very little of that goes to GW these days. My wallet can easily handle that amount of cash as I spend less and less on models myself; I get paid for my commission painting in models.

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
If I recall correctly, DBM could be used with either 15mm or 25mm models. I actually played a couple 15mm games YEARS ago, and wasn't all that excited about the game mechanics (I don't remember what the issues were because it was so long ago). I later played some games using Warmaster Ancients rule...

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
I've bought the Gripping beast plastics for their dark ages models. I don't think they are as detailed as the GW models. I still think they are OK for historical gaming and since many historical armies use way more figures than GW the total cost of an army isn't much different. What detail did you ...

Re: Warhammer rules variant idea - feedback/ideas wanted!
I actually know some veteran players who play 40k that way - they alternate unit activations instead of the IGO-UGO of standard 40k as they don't like the idea of the player who gets first turn blowing away half the other player's army before the latter can react. Anyway, instead of dicing for unit ...

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
For me, its not a question of getting any particular tabletop wargame. I actually really enjoy playing Warhammer. I think I would be interested in trying a historical game, but that wouldn't make me want to stop playing Warhammer (or stop investing in it). I went into historicals with that mindset,...

Re: Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
Well there used to be a ruleset in vogue in the nineties called DBM that was played across America and Europe and had people actually traveling between countries to attend tournaments. There's less unity these days precisely because of a serious proliferation of rulesets. There's a couple of big one...

I get your second point (I was fortunate enough to have a couple of friends who were also interested in switching over), but the second point... I don't really agree. Getting just the truly 'new' DE units (Bloodwrack Shrine + Sisters + Warlocks + Scroungerunner) to add to an existing army will set y...

Tired of GW prices? Why not try historicals?
I've been into this great hobby for nearly thirteen years now, and started out with Warhammer Fantasy back in 6th edition. A little under ten years ago I stumbled upon druchii.net and, well, the rest is history. Now, in this time I've witnessed the quality of GW's products rise tremendously, but so ...

Can't help you at all on the rules side of things, but I'll be painting and photographing some of the Perry Miniatures samurai range over the next month. Those interested in using the Nippon fandex might be interested.

Black would be excellent on those shafts. But first things first, welcome back to the hobby! I've had a few hiatuses in my time but never ten years! Regarding the painting side of the hobby, a lot has changed in recent years. The inks you might remember using have been replaced by washes, which are ...

I would've advocated a wash with coelia greenshade instead, but this worked out nicely as well. You can still consider an additional wash but that might tone the highlights down a bit too much.

I have a Feldherr messenger bag which holds three layers of regular foam plus my armybooks and such - awesome. I've also got a storage box of theirs filled with additional foam layers, so this means I can load up my bag with layers from the box without having to load and unload individual models. Do...

Re: Requesting help with a colour scheme
I just checked out that blog and I see one unit that looks pretty good (spearmen) but on the rest it looks very out of place to me. Bone wouldn't hold up for **** if it were actually hit by something. I like bone/desert colored cloth sure. But as a replacement for what should be metal armor, it jus...
