Eh with 6 rolls on high magic I always get apotheosis. The odds of them killing the mage are really small esp with the 3++ ward.

If you're going to lose the skirts and go for a more dynamic spearman, than consider going to a more gladiator style of buckler shield. Just looks weird having them sprinting forwards with tower shields. If you have them the spear/buckler combo you could even include some nets to amp up your corsair...

They've been flank charged by a frost chicken, and killed the frickin thing before it got a chance to blink. They've been charged on 3 sides, and smashed through everything. Mine usually mostly die, then when they aren't throwing out so many shots, my opponents leave them alone. Later in the game, they creep up to help during clean up. Any elf is good in combat versus an opponent that's had it's toughness reduced. When you're cleaning up a deathstar, every attack counts...
