Re: Un-Welcome to the Age of Sigmar

I'm seeing plenty of people on numerous message boards, for example Daeron on our beloved d.net, putting lots of time and effort into theorising various aspects of the new AoS ruleset, with various mathematical breakdowns and the like. There also seem to be lots of debates on the tactical side of it...

Re: Un-Welcome to the Age of Sigmar

That's what I gathered from the (usually positive) reviews on the web. I just hope it has a better balanced campaign system than Mordheim had. I ordered two of the books, my mate will be using his Bretonnians and I'll likely be using Perry Miniatures Italian renaissance models with Empire wizards. F...

Re: Un-Welcome to the Age of Sigmar

Exactly. Radically different from those warscrolls with their myriad special rules in that you have all your faction's idiosyncrasies laid out on a single A4 before you as a game piece. Superbly elegant, that. As far as fantasy skirmish wargaming goes I'm also interested in Frostgrave, just released...

Re: Un-Welcome to the Age of Sigmar

Yeah, the price point is really offputting. For that price I can buy a full Dark Ages warband for Saga.

That game also has functional rules :)

Re: Recognition to Rick Priestley

RE: OP I'd say AoS has taken quite a few more cues from Alessio's work (GoA relies heavily on Bolt Action's mechanics, and Bolt Action is, of course, mainly Alessio's game) and from the likes of Alex Buchel (Saga, Muskets & Tomahawks) insofar as the actual rule mechanics are short and simple, ye...

Beastlord

It's been quite a while since I last posted, but that's because I've hardly touched a GW model in the meantime. Still, here's a nice Beastlord: https://abrushwithbattles.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/20150504_153514.jpg?w=640&h=1024 More pics on my blog @ https://abrushwithbattles.wordpress.com/20...

Re: Tree hugging hippies - new Wood Elves 2014

The hair looks a bit too yellow for my tastes; I think that more of a gingery hue would contrast the greens a lot better, whilst offsetting the gold tones a bit more. Probably not something you'll be able to fix at this point as your painting techniques appear to be rather involved, but that's just ...

Re: Open letter to white dwarf

I used to think the revamp from a couple of years ago made WD a decent mag again, but then I started getting into historical wargaming and magazines about it. Wargames Illustrated, WS&S and the like are great magazines and illustrate how good WD could be if they still cared about the hobby. War...

Nerfing steadfast and hordes and toning down magic would be a good start.

Not new, they were released for Storm of Magic. Couldn't agree more about their price, of course.

Re: Advice on starting new army

Beastmen are still due for an update for 8th edition, so who knows what they'll do to their rules. But I enjoyed playing them with their 7th edition book under 8th nonetheless. They've got some nice combinations they can pull off, such as a +1S banner for the entire unit which you can stick on a BSB...

It's as if someone slapped runes and rotors on an Eldar Vyper. Or maybe it's just GW cutting back on talnted 3d modellers in favour of ten-year-old Chinese sweatshop workers.

Re: The Desolation of GW

All of this is, of course, nothing but a cashgrab for Tom Kirby right before he quits. Kind of like those £300k dividends he pocketed last year.

GW has never lowered prices, so I agree with Dyvim Tvar.

The Desolation of GW

http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/64920/the-desolation-of-games-workshop--64920.html I really like the title of this article. The contents are somewhat disheartening though. But I'm glad GW is taking flak for the repurposing of their stores to sales points instead of hobby centres.

Re: Let me get this straight....

Same here, most guys I know switched over to historicals or yet other hobbies. Those that still go to WHFB/40k tournaments tend to collect their models from garage sales and second hand websites. You know, it's really sad. Before the advent of the hardback armybooks I collected each and every one of...

Re: Let me get this straight....

The prices are indeed exorbitant. My LGS will be closing down because of the fact that no one around here can still pay for the hobby except one or two older guys. I can't imagine what it's like in Australia and NZ.

If it's fitting Corsairs or Sisters in a unit you guys worry about, why not put them on several 40x40mm bases with a couple of loose models? Or a unit filler?

Re: Hardest things to put together?

Lots of criticism for relatively new GW kits, I see. And why hasn't anyone mentioned the previous metal Executioners yet?! Personally I found the Necron Ghost Ark to be very tedious to put together. I mean, the pilot's right arm comes in two pieces... Other than that I haven't been building any GW k...

Re: Below the skin - veins and such

And the golden rule for this sort of work: add lots of water. I think you could get away with a higher ratio of blue or purple to fleshtone, as long as you paint it very thinly over an already completed area of skin.

Re: Below the skin - veins and such

Faeli-n is right. You could vary the colour a bit by painting some veins in blue+fleshtone and others in purple+fleshtone, to simulate the effect of some veins lying deeper under the skin than others. Also, the golden rule: less is more. Don't overdo it, or it'll look silly.

Re: Army[PLOG] update: 15-11-13 new chariot! 2 wheels! + kni

I really like this - it's a Dark Elf army with conversions aimed at having a less cartoony look. Nice colour scheme as well, I really like the green and gold. It seems you're doing a bit of everything - some parts of the chariot, some Cold Ones... keep some focus and you'll get results much faster!
