My inner Warhammer fluff-nerd is wincing though. What's Malekith doing in Lustria? The DE expedition there was Morathi (and the Cult of Pleasure) - Malekith was smart enough to stay out of it. He had been there much earlier, before the Sundering, but that's not really relevant...
And who the hell uses witch elves as scouts and ambushers? That's what shades are for! Shades wouldn't have ended up fatally surprised by a freaking carnosaur!
Also, shades probably would have had the sense to shoot the Asur mage first, not some random spearman.
So, yeah, a typical video game teaser/trailer movie. Visually spectacular, but actually kinda dumb when you think about it for a minute.

Gosh, looking at the stunning visuals on this made me think it really is time that Warhammer had a proper movie made. Not some budget fan based production, but a full on Peter Jackson style epic with comprehensive budget and effort to boot. Imagine, the story of Aenarion on big screen - it's an incredible sage with all of the right pieces:
- a beautiful paradise overrun by war (Ulthuan and its golden age overwhelmed by the forces of chaos).
- a tragic and ultimately doomed hero (Aenarion).
- love interests and twists (Astarielle and Morathi).
- friendships formed and broken (Aenarion and Caledor).
- a sword in the stone allusion but with an edge (the Sword of Khaine).
- the gradual erosion of chivalry and valour amongst the elves as they try to cope with the horrors of war.
- huge battles, with demons and dragons.
- a massive final battle (the four greater demons versus Aenarion and his dragon on the Isle of the Dead, while Caledor works with his mages to create the vortex).
- a happy ending with a bite: the forces of good triumphing, but at tragic cost (Aenarion and his dragon being both killed, Caledor and his mages left to spend eternity maintaining the vortex, and the curse of Aenarion being passed down his blood line).
Of course, we wouldn't see Dark Elves until the sequel, but we would begin to see their presence feeling felt as Aenarion and his followers veer from the path of righteousness towards blood fury.
Seeing the Warhammer Total War II visuals made me salivate over what could be done on the big screen to really bring the Warhammer world to life. It has so much depth (or it did, pre-effing End Times) and now that GW has killed the franchise anyway, surely that could open up the doors for a film version in the same way that they were finally willing to allow a good computer game to be made about it.

Just to prove how totally not-over-ET-betrayal-yet-or-likely-ever, I thought I'd chime in.
Was enjoying it (bar the issues raised by Shadowspite re shades) until the tagline at the end.
"Defend your world. Destroy theirs."
Can't read that without screaming at GW over and over and over, until I realize my cat and six year old daughter are staring at me and I have to leave the room.

Re: OOOOHHHH, YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New Dark Elves in-engine trailer is up.
The voice actors for Malekith and Morathi sound just about perfect for the roles. The actual dialogue is a bit pants, though: "It only takes a cinder for a Phoenix to rise"? What?
Morathi seems to have lost her shoes. That's not a complaint. I do wonder about the blackened fingers and toes. I don't recall that ever being mentioned in her official fluff. I could see that being a result of six thousand years of using Dark Magic, though.

Warhammer may have died ...but it has went to electronic heaven
Dark Elves Campaign:

Dark Elves Battle:

Demo battle of Malekith v Tyrion & Teclis:

Some thoughts & observations:
- Slave economy, oh yeah
- I'm enjoying the Hydra being restored to its rightful place as our go-to battlefield blitzkreig. It also looks better than the tabletop version, as do many of our troops.
- Murderous Prowess is deadly, and encourages high-risk tactics
- Black Arks function as transports, buildings (can generate troops), beachhead campaign army supports and ballistic support ...exactly as they should in other words
- Would love to see our other troop choices make an appearance in the game, especially Sisters of Slaughter ...but that would be the DLC business model Creative are using.
