GW has killed WH8th.
WH is dead, long live WH!
There is a very active community which is doing an incredible work.
Taking WH8th as a basis, they are developing what GW should have done:
a 9th edition, keeping all the good rules and units that we loved,
but making the rules much more robust (no need for an FAQ which will never come),
and balancing all the units (no must-have anymore, no useless unit anymore).
You can participate. It is there: http://www.the-ninth-age.com/index.php? ... -darkness/
This forum is created in order to facilitate the discussion between the creators of 9th Age, and D.net community.
We hope that all the ones who have been turned away from the game might find here a relief.
Welcome to WH as it should be!
EDIT:
ETC voted on 1st Oct to use 9th Age.

Re: Welcome to the 9th Age!
Hi,
having quit playing Warhammer with the start of the endtimes I felt there was something missing in my live.
Sounds a bit over the top, but hey the Warhammer World was company since 7th grade to me - and that is now over 20 years in the past (damn too long).
Never the less a friend triggered our old gaming group and insisted to give 9th Age a go. Well after 5 evenings and roughly the same amount of games I am back with my old love.
The games feel like the old Warhammer, except that the rules are more clear and tidy :-) And most important the fun and the old guys are back in town !
So if you are happy with AoS, stay there and be happy. If you miss the way 8 edition played and all that stuff give 9th Age a go :-)
P.S. Ok, currently it is a bit of an "on hold" with painting and big army design as the 2.0 beta is approaching the next weeks (final release is March (?) next year). But this will settle the rules then for some years...
P.P.S. For me it seem the way the are organized and how they work makes them "big" enough to stay and be a platform for games the next decade

Re: Welcome to the 9th Age!
Thanks a lot for this testimony!
T9A was started with the goal to provide WH feeling with streamlined rules and superb balance, both internal and external.
Which rules version did you play? 1.3?
Note that there is 2nd Edition at the corner. We should publish the beta for public testing in a couple of weeks, and the edition will be official in mid spring 2018.
We went a bit further in adjusting rules for a game which is easier to play and makes more sense; in the process of adjusting all AB, they received a few adjustments as well.
After 2nd Ed is out, the rules shall not change anymore for years, in a similar way that GW changed edition every now and then (except that T9A delivers lots of information before the definitive print). The next changes will be the army books themselves, which will be overhauled completely. The 3rd or 4th in line is DE. It will have as usual corsairs and monsters, assassins and cultists, but... 1) all units will be playable and useful, no more sub-par fluffy units, and 2) much greater coherence, with all units having a tactical role and a very coherent fluff (no more unrealistic faction of assassins).

Re: Welcome to the 9th Age!
We played the current 1.3 rules.
We are the 4 guys from our ex Warhammer group. Joind by an old buddy who played not since a decade (and his son).
For the start everybody choose one of their armies just to get into the rules and the game again.
So we have currently Demons (Slaanesh), Warriors, Lizards, High Elves, Druchii, Vampires and it feels realy good and decently balanced (at least as good as 8. Edition).
And all are 'on fire' again, cleaning the dust from the terrain, mixing up the paints and checking the drawers with the minis ...
