The Temple of Khaine vs Chaos Infected 2250

Post by Fleshcollector »

For my 4th battle in the store campaign, it was my honor to defend the sacred Temple of Khaine against an infected incursion by the forces of chaos, who sought to inflict a moral blow against the faithful into the very seat of Khaines power. As the previous 3 battles had successfully repelled futile attempts by Mercenaries and Chaos Dwarves to diminish the granduer of the Druchii territory and resulting in devastating massacres to extend the beauty of her Highness, the entrenched Druchii found themselves surrounded by maddening demons, chaos dwarves, Dogs of War, Lizzardmen and despicable and diseased Mortals from which to expand their catalog of captives. And while marching into the outskirts of pestilent territory, the Temple scouts encountered the depraved Lord of Nurgle leading an incursion of their own.

Thinking swiftly and eager to prove the inherent superiority of Khaine, Kreelis arrayed her forces before a field littered with hills and forests from which to segregate the enemy into manageable fractures. On the left, crossbowmen deployed to rain swift death upon the Marauder horsemen of Slaanesh as the Cold One Knights prepared to threaten the Warriors of Nurgle beyond the yonder hill in the center of that flank. The forces of chaos were forced to advance from each side of a wood directly in the center of their deployment zone while the Druchii enjoyed the advantage of a sturdy center composed from left to right of the witches, executioners, blackguard and dark riders and flanked on the left by the Reapers on a hill the Hydra and more Dark Riders. The harpies assumed their position behind the blackguard and Reapers to dismay the advance of Chaos. On the right flank another forest divided the field which forced Chaos to take a long roundabout journey to the center and through the awaiting Hydra and Dark Riders.

With only 2 units of Nurgle Warriors on the left facing against the Temples
infantry the Marauder foot soldiers and 2 units of Nurgling Knights assumed their opposing positions rather bunched up a unable to meet the center without first the the Generals' Knights laboring around the woods.

First Turn the Kreelish ordered a massive advance by the Temples' main body straight ahead and towards the Warriors of Nurgle. Harpies flew to prevent flank charges on the Cold Ones on the left and to march block the Marauders and Knights on the right. The Hydra and Dark riders on the right moved to check the advance of the Knights and Horsemen and to charge next turn once the enemy advanced. The archers shot dead 2 Horsemen on the left who merely enjoyed the pain inflicted upon them while the Reapers killed a few Warriors of Nurgle.

Undaunted, Chaos advanced while the 3 remaining Horsemen on the left charged fleeing harpies and Marauders charged fleeing harpies on the right. One unit of knights advanced towards the center while the other with the Lord moved to circumvent the rightmost woods who where supported by the Horsemen. The Warriors, seeing their doom advance, began their retreat in a vain attempt to buy precious time for assistance that would never come. As a fireball was hurled at the fleeing harpies, the power of Khaine easily diminished the magical energies to no effect. Strangely, the Exalted Champions left their units to position for a charge on the Reapers.

Inspired by the cowardice of chaos the Cold One Knights fought desperately but failed to maintain control of their mounts and the harpy bests fled the field on the left. As the main body advanced further the Dark Riders on the right charged headlong into the marauders and managed 2 kills but fought to a stalemate. The Hydra entered the woods to draw the a line on the flank of the Knights and unleashed a gout of flame that brought one Knight low. The Reapers each impaled the foolish Champions while the crossbowmen felled another Horsemen and fully expected n ensuing charge. The centermost DR moved to flank the Marauders and harass them with arrows felling one.

Despite their losses, the general commanded a charge into the Hydra while the other knights charged the rallied harpies who again fled but where moved down and positioning the Knights in front of the Reapers. Horsemen charged the crossbowmen whose shooting proved ineffective but who still managed a kill in combat to fight them to a draw. Unwilling to accept the fast cavalry in the flank, the marauders changed formation to face the riders. The warriors backed further until pinned against a the forest preventing the forces of Khaine to gaining a charge. True to form as a fearsome beast the hydra destroyed 2 Knights and chased them away from any hope of further participation. Locked in a desperate struggle, the rightmost Dark Riders managed a win against the Horsemen but failed to defeat their spirit. The sorcerer of chaos failed to muster the strength against the Faithful of Khaine to inflict any meaningful impact.

Finally managing to control their beasts the Cold One Knights thundered into Warriors of Nurgle, crushing not only their moral but the entire unit as their moral failed under the fear of facing such terrifying advasaries. The Blackguard advanced to receive the charge from the remaining Nurgle warriors while the witches moved for a flank against them if they proved so foolish. The executioners faced the coming marauders rather than assist the Reaper crews and the Hydra broke chase to attend to the center. Blessed by the Cauldron the crossbowmen handily finished the Horsemen while the rightmost Dark Riders did the same. The centermost Riders moved again for the flank of the coming marauders while felling a few with arrows. The Reapers seeing their doom upon them fired a last volley each into the marauders to ensure the unit as manageable.

Chaos Knights led by their general charged the Reapers and handily slew the faithful crew. Warriors of Nurgle charged the Blackguard and inflicted withering casualties but who held firm despite their 7 losses. Finally the sorcerer managed a fiery death for 4 of the 5 Dark Riders harassing their flanks but in doing so presented their rear to the coming hydra.

Without hesitation the Witches charged the flank of the Warriors while the Hydra charged the marauders who fled. The Blackguard slew the remaining 6 Chaos warriors to the man allowing the control of both flanks and the center.

Failing to rally the marauders fled a few inches towards the wood in their deployment zone but easily within range of the executioners next turn. The Generals Knight unit turned towards the center and moved to engage new victims.

The charging executioners caught and butchered the fleeing marauders while the Blackguard, Witches and Cold One Knights moved in harmony towards the Chaos Knights. The Hydra moved to their flank a burned one alive.

Desperate to escape the chaos knights turned to face the Hydra and fight their way free and was successful in doing so in the final turn.

The 16th massacre for the Temple of Khaine

To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the executioners and witches making no attacks this game but again deployment is what stacked the combats in my favor as his forces where split by quite a bit of space. I'm actually quite happy that the Chaos Lord and Knights chose to tackle the bolt throwers simply because it did not give them return on their investment but the Hydra killing 2 Knights when receiving the charge without injury and breaking by fear outnumber pretty much sealed the deal by leaving only one chaos knight unit as a real threat. I will say it again; Dark Elves are simply sick in combat.

Of course my friends list was very friendly when mine is not quite so much methinks anymore.
