It's confirmed - He's completely lost it...
Because I want 4 big monsters in a 2000pts list, but to still have an army to go with it - that means... Two Manticores...
Dreadlord - Manticore, RoD, AoES, DP, HA, SDC, S - 452
He's there for a manticore, some leadership and punch - fairly conventional general really.
Master - Manitcore, RoH, AoD, Halberd - 334
Hotek Caddy with Moster.
Master - DS, PoK, SoM, HA, SDC, S, BSB - 177
The tried and tested cruise missile...
Sass - Manbane, Rending Stars - 145
Provides the high strength shooting that I'm gonna miss by not having my bolt throwers
2 Hydra's - 350
I said this was a monster mash...
5 Shades - 80
Shooting and probably an Assassain launching pad
4x 10Xbows - Shields, Musi - 460
The body of the army, kick out lots of shots then reform into 5x2 if anything threatens
Total: 1998
Model Count - 51
PD: 2
DD: 2 + RoH
Shots per turn: 98
Ok - if anyone wants to sya Im crazy and leave it at that then fair enough. There is a kind of reasoning behind it though.
1. I feel I need to relearn how to play agressively, and having four combat monsters being almost 60% of my points seems like a good start...
2. I need either magic or shooting to back up said monsters - shooting is cheaper, comes in larger quantities and can actually be fitted into the list - therefore lots of crossbows get shoved in.
In terms of tactics the army will be split into two sections, shooting and combat. If I have a hill or some convinient terrain then the shooting elements will castle up around the terrain in some sort of refused flank formation while the monsters and BSB set up to race down the other side or the middle to where they can hit things.
I have been considering dropping one unit of Xbows for two units of 5 Harpies for extra shooting hunters. The other option would be a scroll caddy for the cruise missile. If I did that then the BSB would be shifted onto the Master on Manticore for extra SCR.
I'm still leaning toward the cruise missile though. I think Hotek should cover the monsters fairly well for a turn or two which should be all I need, especially if I take the harpies.
So sorry for being v wordy. Everything really boils down to a few simple questions...
1. Is the list viable?
2. Should the Harpies go in for a unit of Xbows?
3. Should the Caddy come in for the Cruise Missile?
3b. If yes - what should be done with the 29pts left over?
4. Has Slortor gone completely barmy?
Thank you for your time.

1. Dont know. Haven't seen that yet. YOU tell us later.
2. Yes. Trouble for Manti is warmachines. Harpies are good warmachine hunters and if they don't kill them on the spot, they can keep the crews busy for a while (especially with a general not far).
3. Not sure. Tempting to say no.
4. Yes. Thanks GW. Nice to see that.

1. Yes, why wouldn't it be?
2. You have no harpies to begin with, you need moar harpies!
3. Depends, if you're planning this for tournament play then yes. If for casual play, then that depends if you're going to face magic heavy opponents that can avoid the ring (vampires come to mind mostly)
4. Hard to tell, There must've been someone to plant that mad idea in his mind <.<
@Kirby:
Dreadlord on Manticore: 1
Master on Manticore: 2
Master on Dark Steed: 1

I could have 50 harpies and you'd still say that wouldn't you?
Thanks for the advice so far guys - I'll go for the switch at some point and then play it a bit... see how it goes

Is it just me, or am I counting five character slots being used?
It's just you:
Dreadlord - Manticore: 1 slot
Master - Manitcore: 2 slots
Master - 1 slot
Sass - 0 slots
Dreadlords on mantis only fill one slot, dreadlords on dragons fill two. Assassins count as characters for game playing purposes, but do not fill a character spot.

Hi,
Quick shot: To learn how to play agressively you should drop all temptation to do not. Read: Drop shooters and put cheap troops (spears).
Ok, you put 460P. in rxbmen. try to soften that (I mean it's quite nasty, right?
20 Spears, Shd, FC - 155
10 Rxb, shd, mus - 115
5 DR, mus - 117
5 Harpies - 55
leaves 18 points to e.g. buy another shade
It is considered to be "weaker" but you want to get to the slaying right away.
Cheers, CATR.

It could work. I'm thinking DR and Harpies instead of RXB's, but this may work. I can see the DR redirecting, the Manti's hitting the flanks, the Hydra's crushing from the front. I don't really see how the RXB dudes fit with that unless they're the bait. That might work. Opponents like to have something to chase.
Overal, though, I say go for it. Should be fun!

I'll look into swapping the RxB's for DR and Harpies
at the moment its as it is because i have 30 Xbows already but no spears at all... i also rather like Xbows and the volume of shooting they can pump out.
EDIT:
Dreadlord - Manticore, RoD, AoES, DP, HA, SDC, S - 452
Master - Manitcore, RoH, AoD, Halberd - 334
Master - DS, PoK, SoM, HA, SDC, S, BSB - 177
Sass - Manbane, Rending Stars, Extra Hand Weapon - 151
2x Hydra - 350
5 Shades - 80
3x 5 DR - Musi - 291
3x 5 Harpies - 165
well the armies shooting is now practically non-existent...
on the other hand its now very fast and very hard...
is this better than the 40 Xbows... or 30 Xbows and 10 Harpies...
I'm not sure...

This ones a simple case that in some games you will miss the mobility and in others you may miss the firepower. Swings and round-abouts really so just try the dark riders out for now they seem to fit more with the 'glass cannon' style you have going here.
Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the possability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.
