2400 Pts Dark rider bus list

Post by Dúhîth »

Hi all,

I have a tournament upcomming in May.
So I read about the Warlock busses, but I have made a slightly different list of which I think it might work better. Maybe I can get some input from you, to make the list better.

Lord

Dreadlord: General; Ogre Blade; Charmed Shield; Cloak of Twilight; Luckstone; Dark Steed; Heavy Armour; Repeater Crossbow; Sea Dragon Cloak.

Hero
Master: Battle Standard Bearer (Standard of Discipline); Dark Steed; Heavy Armour; Lance; Sea Dragon Cloak; Shield.
Master: Enchanted Shield; Dark Steed; Lance; Repeater Crossbow; Sea Dragon Cloak.
Master: Ironcurse Icon; Dark Steed; Heavy Armour; Lance; Repeater Crossbow; Sea Dragon Cloak; Shield.
Master: Ring of Hotek; Dark Steed; Heavy Armour; Lance; Sea Dragon Cloak; Shield. 148
Sorceress: Dispel Scroll; Dark Steed.

Core
12 Dark Riders: Musician; Standard Bearer; Repeater Crossbow; Shield.
8 Dark Riders: Musician; Standard Bearer; Repeater Crossbow; Shield.
8 Dark Riders: Musician; Standard Bearer; Repeater Crossbow; Shield.

Special

4x Reaper Bolt Thrower
10 Shades: Great Weapon.
10 Shades: Great Weapon.

Rare:
10 Doomfire Warlocks

2.400 points

The Lord and the Nobles ride with the big Dark Rider unit. The sorceress goes with a smaller Dark Rider unit.

The list looks perfectly good, however I would go with a level 4 myself.

As for CoKs vs Execs. The Executioners are going to be a nice anvil unit, however is going to be slow compared to the rest of the list. A couple of no frills CoK will make some going flank support for the bus at the same points do I would suggest you go the all cav route.

I could exchange the 29 executioners with 12 Cold One Knights with full command, would they better complemend to the list?

I would probably prefer 2 smaller flanking units myself, but 12 would work. Just remember to get the sorceress mounted as well.

I'd also run your Warlock unit in 2 blocks of 5. Can be used as smaller flanking units and warmachine hunters when they're not casting, plus it's an extra channel and another drop for deployment. The 4++ is really good protection

Would consider getting rid of crossbows on the large bus of DR.

I could see going either way on this one. In a unit of 10, they can act as a secondary bus for your characters to eject into.

What comp is the event doing?

I'm assuming its no comp because its filthy, but if it is no comp, you should trade the Executioners for Shades. Two units of 10, with great weapons if you like. They will compliment the list far better.

As said above, I would upgrade the sorceress to a Lvl 4, and would go Death. There should be points left over from the above trade, if not, drop a master.

Did you want to have the lance and the ogre blade on the general? Also, the DR footprint is very big. Fast cav helps the movement, but such a big footprint is still not easy to maneuver.
I would also try to find room for the crown of command. Being able to pin-down a particular unit and keep it there will help you get your other units into the fray.

I guess I never realized just how nasty that warlock bus can be, I saw it in action tonight. 4 Masters/Lvl 4 SS on dark steeds in unit of warlocks, throw all your dice at juiced up savage beast of horros. Combined, the masters are pumping out 24 strength 9 attacks (str 4 + 3 (horros) + 2 from lance) rerolling misses, wound 2+ (reroll 1s), no AS (or -6 penalty). The masters killed 20 black orcs on the charge I saw. I guess in a tournament that's too risky a play but with everything being fast cav you can pretty much choose your target and pull a similar end result.

The comp is indeed minimal:
-Characters are allowed.
-rare units may not be duplicated if they cost more than 100 pts
-special units may not be triplicated if they cost more than 80 pts
- no two lvl 4 casters.

I like the idea of the shades, and i will try to get the sorc to lvl 4.
I will have some test games soon.

Shoud I put the Crown of Command on a Dreadlord or should it be in the unit on a noble?

I have changed the list somewhat in the first post.

The list is without a lvl 4, because I think it does not do much.
Magic is very unreliable, and if you want a spell cast you throw 6 dice. Which often results in irresistible force. If no IR is rolled, I can Scroll it or throw all my dice against it.

I will put it to the test, to see if it really works out.

I never had a lvl 4 in the list, but many people advise to bring a lvl 4.

Sorry. Read that wrong. Lv4 can be very useful, but be no means an absolute essential. If you are not running her, then perhaps you might get more value out of two units of five warlocks, for that little extra firepower and dispel chance.
