2500 pts back to the table

Post by Nostromo »

So managed to spend a good portion of lockdown getting a fresh paintjob on the old Druchii army. Now in its third incarnation, and nearly ready to return to the table. Going to arrange a game in the coming weeks, and thinking of taking the following. Pretty excited to give the old 8th book a spin again.

Any thoughts on the list below?

Reminds me efficient lists of the past.
No reason it wouldn't work in the hands of an experienced general.

Do you have a strategy in mind for the list?

The goal of the list is to close with the enemy as quickly as possible.

The Sorc sits in the Spear block at the back to provide magic buffs/debuffs to the most critical combats. Typically I would use the large Knight block on one flank in an attempt to funnel the opponent's main combat units into the Black Guard blob in the center. Mindrazor can make any block potent, but with any of the other spells up, the BG should be able to eviscerate just about anything.

Witches to kamikaze into any regen threats, or even screen the BG in a pinch. They are a throwaway. Exes for armour/to assist in funnelling the enemy into the BG. Still quite scared of Dwellers hitting the BG. With the Ring in there I think the main worry of the big block would be artillery.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Played around with some points and resulted in this variant.

Lords

Supreme Sorceress, Lore of Shadow
Level 4
Ring of Hotek, Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon………………………..300 pts

Heros

Master
Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Shield, Lance, Cloak of Twilight
Battle Standard,
Dark Pegasus………………………………………………………………………………………….213 pts

Core

Dark Riders x 5
Shields, Repeater Crossbows……………………………………………………………….100 pts

Dark Riders x 5
Shields, Repeater Crossbows……………………………………………………………….100 pts

Corsairs x 10
Handbows………………………………………………………110 pts

Witch Elves x 15
Musician, Standard Bearer, Banner of Eternal Flame ……………………………………………………………….195 pts

Darkshards x 10...............................................................................................................................................120 pts

Special

Executioners x 19
Standard Bearer, Musician, Champion……………………………248 pts

Cold One Knights x 10
Standard Bearer, Musician, Champion
Gleaming Pennant.......................................................................…………………………335 pts

Black Guard x 29
Standard Bearer, Musician, Champion, Razor Standard……………………………………510 pts

Shades x 8
Great Weapons ……………………………………………………………………………….144 pts

Rare

Doomfire Warlocks x 5…………………………………………………………………65 pts

Lost the Master (who was just a caddy for the ring anyway - Black Guard do not need his support). Also lost the Spear block and the stabby dagger, giving me less certainty to get the spells through when I need to, and a less secure bunker.

The Sorc takes the Ring, along with a scroll and the Ironcurse Icon to protect the blob of BG a little more. Downside is that she needs to be in the unit for the Magic Res to take effect. Any miscast detonations could quickly thin their numbers.

The list gains more troops for further tactical flexibility :

3 more shades and great weapons to make them a little more of a concern, and able to take out chaff units convincingly.

Gleaming Pennant on the Knights as cheap insurance against a failed stupidity roll.

A 10 man block of corsairs to screen the BG and bait units. Another chaff block.

A 10 man block of darkshards to help clear chaff and provide a backup bunker for the Sorceress.

An extra Executioner with the remaining points.

I think it would be potentially stronger, but the lack of a solid bunker worries me. The definite weakness is the Sorceress in the Black Guard. Without a ward I would need to bail her out of the unit before they hit combat, meaning I would need to have another unit hanging around nearby. Is all this worth it for the ring's MR3 and Miscast on Double 1s?
