Classic Druchii.net's Greatest Lists

Post by Ash010110 »

Disclaimer: The following lists, while still holding a degree of good quality and being a prime example of working and winning Druchii lists, are no longer legal with 7th edition army book. We are accepting nominations for 7th edition lists in here, while this topic remains as an example of what we had to work with in the past, and how we managed to make it work the Druchii way!

Greetings and salutations, fellow Dark Elf players! It has been over 4 months since I become Moderator of the Army Lists Forum, and I've always wanted to give back to the site that has given so much to me. What you have before you is a compilation of the most competitive armies (according to my strictest standards of excellence) posted on Druchii.net. Yes, boys and girls, I actually trudged thru all 80+ pages of army lists to dig up the gems you see below.

As a disclaimer, I will NOT accept any posts or PMs that whine and complain that there is a list that belongs here. As Drakken and Alcing and Vorchild can tell you, I am *very* particular about quality, and if a list doesn't cut it, then it doesn't cut it. For reference I'm using Jeff Leong's wonderful thread on General Tournament Army Considerations http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=8991 and my own GT experience as my guide. If it has efficiency, redundency, synergy, and most importantly PUNCH, then it's in here. Having said that, I *will* accept posts that contest an entry here. If you think I was too soft in allowing an army to be listed here, state your case and we can have a good old-fashioned Dark Elf discussion (remember those?) as I explain my reasoning.

Finally, I hope this will be a boon to newer players as you can get your toes wet with tried-and-tested armies before you delve into the subtle art of army creation on your own. God-willing, I'll update this compilation at the end of each year.

So without further ado. . . . I present Druchii.net Greatest Lists:

May peace be with you,
And may all your hits be crits,

Ash

A great idea Ash - surprised to see I got twwo lists in there :D. Much Kudos and Karma comming your way....

I have three suggestions for lists. Firstly there is DAs WAACy Cult list that details shenangins principles (which should be in the hall fo fame two). The next is Grog's Khaine/COB list, which is really grate and helpful. Also as you have so many two manti lists perhaps Marith's original one should be added if you can find it. Oh, I know its not one list, but perhaps finding some pure bred MSU lists from the old days...

Again greta list, and thanks for putting my stuff in there - although now I look back on the Valkyries crew I realise I could remake it much better. I might do that actually. The valkyrie can become a phenoix :)

That's cause you have more lists than most of us put together Grasshopper.

Nice one Ash its really handy to have a one stop shop to look at what other people are doing with similar type lists based on the parameters your using.

I belive that Mariath Tuerl's Final Version of the 2 Manti list is up there Ras, in the Realm of Unorthadox.

Honestly, I'm amazed to see a list I didn't even feel worthy taking out made it....though it probably would have done better than the one I took.... . Only suggestion I have it you might want to asterix a few more armies, as quite a few of those will give newer players fits until they work with them for a while. Several also have tactical threads explaining them away and there use...
We stand now on the precipice of something monumental and perhaps even capable of boggling the mind in its myriad potentials and possibilities. Try not to drool too much…

Grasshopper, allow me to point you to my introductory remarks. . . specifically the second paragraph, first sentence ;)

@ Drakken: Remember that there is a nested series of finesse requirements. The fact that you've chosen Druchii is the first, so it could be said that all these lists require some level of aptitude. The second level is the category itself, "Realm of Unorthodoxy." This alerts users that Finesse Level 2 is required. Finally, we have the asterix. . . these are the high echelons of Finesse Level 3. Any more than that and we have to start factoring in player IQ, age, maturity, terrain matrix, opponent behavioral profiles, and karma codes :P

May peace be with you,
Ash

Hmm, I still think Grog's CoB list deserves to get in, and won't change my mind. I am sure Marith's list wasn't there before ;)

Ash congratulations man! This is an awesome undertaking. I like the way you have broken them down into categories for ease of reference and understanding as to their useage.

I am particularly intrigued as to how you found my original 'Blade' thread. I thought it had been deleted when we had technical problems with the site. So how did you find it?

@ Rasputin: It doesn't deserve to be in here. Remember, his list was made when we actually lived in the same city. I saw it get beaten by everything but a flop game against empire (newbie with gryphon-rider). Granted, he made some tactical errors (from what I could observe), but even when he made brilliant plays, the army just wasn't strong enough to go the distance. Fear not, 2-3 of Grog's armies did qualify :)

@ Dark Alliance: Thank you, my friend. Now we just need to get the other forum mods to do likewise :D As for finding your list, I just trolled thru each and every page. As you can see from the link, it IS in the army list forum. A few of these lists were lifted from tactics or bat.reps, but yours was still there.

May peace be with you,
Ash

EDIT @ Maedhros: I started in mid-January.

EDIT @ Vorchild: Your modified 'guard has all the trimmings of a nasty list but is still quite balanced b/c it has no Center of Gravity. Note the asterix I gave you, dude: it takes skill to win with that list.

Great thread Ash!

Hey, this is great Ash! Well done! I don't know whether to thank you or get mad that two of my lists made it up there, one for being unorthodox (ie, what was he thinking ;) ) and the other for being infamous. ;) Maybe someday I'll post a succesful balanced army? Not likely. ;)

Wow, I made it up there :D Thanks Ash. Someone should buy you a beer for scouring the Army Lists Forum for a month... Unfortunately I can't, it's a whole 'nother year til I can purchase alcohol 8) and I don't have the $ for S&H.

I think I'm Vorchild's nemesis: Every single list I use is balanced... Never even thought of buying a dragon before :p

I think this will turn out to be a great tool for newer players who are starting to get the hang of how dark elves play... Maybe there should be a thread for people commenting on the lists from here that they tried out? Perhaps that kind of discussion could just stay in this thread... Just an idea :)

Ash... err... the link for the Flock is actually not the final list [oops, my post was misleading.] If you scroll down a bit, you see the final final version that I took. Unless you were aiming for that thread and not a particular list... in that case you got it right.

And honestly, I am shocked to see 2 of my own lists up there... Thanks a bunch.

@Human: We tried. He wouldn't drink.

@ Alcing: I felt the linked list was stronger than the one you took to the GT (similar thing happened with Drakken).

@ Human: As Alcing said, I don't drink. . . however, I'll accept a free dinner.

Also, the idea of this thread was to be a discussion of why each list on here works as well as a one-stop reference for new players. Otherwise, I'd have locked the thread.

May peace be with you,

Are these lists decided upon due to theme, or compeditivness? Are there any chance you'll add in fluffy lists or lists with great composition and theme (that might have slightly less compeditivness)?

I'm surprised to see one of my lists in there, especially my Smallish Beast Army.

@ Nagathi: The primary consideration was competitiveness. If it can put a hurting on an opponent, it's in here.

@ Drowgan: That particular list hits like a freight-train. . . the only time I've ever seen similar combat results is with my Brets.

Just out of curiousity, on Drowgon's list, why Great weapons instead of Lances on the Nobles?

The two things I noticed was that the list was designed to take on other elves, and the unit with the nobles is meant to break on the charge.

Failing the break on the charge isn't it a bit risky to give up initiative on 75% of the front rank, when STR 4 would be almost as good in subsequent rounds of combat?

Or is the extra wounds that STR 6 give (Even striking last)deemed important enough to overcome the awesomeness of the Battle Banner?

Also, I must congratulate you Ash on a massive undertaking, this really is comprehensive isnt it?

@ Asperon: The GW is so you can carve thru the 3+ save on the BSB. It is also better in continued combat against tough things like undead, chaos, and dwarves. Initiative is not as important as strength in the current rules set, which is why most players take GWs in the first place.

Im glad someone agrees with me on this one :) so many people seem to take Halbards at the moment, I can understand their thinking, but it seems silly to overlook the GW, which IMO, is also alot more usefull than the majority of Magic items...just my opinion though.

btw, i've changed my list back on the initial post okies :)

Aaaah, Ok.

From personal experience, my troops never seem to survive if I don't strike first. But that may be because I couldn't make an armor save if my own life depended on it. (Not with Warriors, not with Nobles in chariots with HA,SDC, and shields, not even with space marines.)

But I may try that list with lances.

The Great Weapons are there to chew through Cavalry's tough AS in case of prolonged combat. That list was almost "boo-ed" when I playtested it. (twice) (Game -1 - Tomb Kings, Game 2 - Skaven)

Once I saw the "wave of cold ones" + Hydra charge and "pop" 32 Skeletons in 1 round!!! Charge + overrun. Very scary.
