Kala's Civil War Journal

Post by General kala »

Greetings ladies, gentlemen and assorted backstabbing Druchii bastids...

I am going to start a fluff thread here of General Kala's personal journal and correspondences with other Druchii and such throughout the civil war campaign. I thought it would be entertaining to keep a chronicle of the war from my character's perspective. I have enjoyed reading some of the "ongoing adventures" threads. This is my attempt at sort of the same thing, but written in first person by all participants and ending with the close of the War of Flesh and Blood.

One favor that I ask of you.
------------------------------------

If you decide to post in this thread, please do so in the form of a letter, intelligence report or other correspondence to General Kala the Dark Elf Commander of the Black Lotus Brigade and not General Kala the web forum dork. Write as if your charcter was sending a letter to my character. Please don't say "nice thread" or "good story" or "you suck" other human stuff like that. I want to make this into sort of a Field Commander's Notebook that is in character from start to finish. If you want to comment as a human, then please feel free to PM me.

I would love to see other people do the same thing as this. I'd also like to cross link fluff like Jhaelryna and I did a few days back (http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=27646). In other words, let's try to make this campaign into a story brimming over with sub-plots and interesting personalities and not just a big game.

My backstory (for your reference) - http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=27169

Mods - I looked and didn't find any rules against this sort of thread. Also, I plan to keep within the storyline boundaries that the Campaign Managers set. If this journal isn't acceptable, then please inform me and I will gladly desist.

Having said that........

I have finally received a reply back from the Witch King’s court. It seems that His Majesty has no intention of intervening between his mother and Hellebron. For the first time in a thousand years I am in doubt of Malekith’s wisdom. He would have us cut off our own sword arm to prove that it is weak.

There are more ill omens as well. The interrogation of the Asur commander captured in the foothills reveals that our hated cousins are actually planning a major offensive to take advantage of the mayhem. The march from Arnheim under the command of Prince Enthardon will begin when civil war is blinding the Druchii.

I am going to recall and consolidate my troops. I will do what I can to seal the holes in our lands where the vermin squirm in. I refuse to have Naggaroth invaded by Asur and the other lesser races because of the bickering of the cults and the king’s lack of foresight.

Dispatch from General Kala Kodai Velari to all Black Lotus troops

Greetings my loyal minions,

It has become painfully apparent that Malekith does not intend to avert a full scale civil war amongst the Druchii. Further, the Black Throne apparently does not seem to wish to acknowledge the growing numbers of enemy forces within our own homeland. Hellebron and Morathi are so focused on achieving their own short-sighted ends that they have become blinded to all else.

I have fought alongside many of you. My blood has mingled with yours on the battlefield. I care little for the favor of the court at Naggarond. I have no desire to enforce religious purity among my troops. This you all know, as you would not be in the Black Lotus had you not chosen your people first above your religious faiths. I have charged into battle shoulder to shoulder with both Devoted and Brides of Khaine against the lesser races of the world and the hated Asur. I have not been struck down by either god.

So I call upon you now to come to the aid of that which truly unites us all - the destiny of the Druchii. As religious extremism grows like a cancer, I call upon you to resist the proselytizations of the fanatics of both Slaanesh and Khaine. They would have you do their selfish mortal bidding in the name of your gods. There is blood enough for your devotionals to both gods without their mortal salesmen enslaving you with your faith.

I am ordering all units in the Blackspines to rendezvous with the Black Lotus 1st Division at Wrath Gate. The 3rd, 6th, and 23rd near Clar Karond should assemble on the plains east of the city and head south as best as possible through the underway caverns. All other Divisions west and south of Hag Graef should make way to the Gate through the swiftest means. Large forces of Asur are assembling on the plains and forests around the area of Arnheim. All possible care should thus be taken to hide troop movements and unit strengths.

The 4th and 16th garrisoned in Naggarond are to make for and hold the Underway. Intelligence has been delivered to me that may indicate a Dwarven incursion and possible Skaven marauders. I need not tell you of the strategic hazards of allowing enemy access to the Sea of Malice.

The 5th and 7th Expeditionary Divisions in the southlands are to return north to as well. However, I expect you to make for the southern tip of the Forest of Arnheim. There you will take up a hidden position and await further orders. You will be called upon to attack from the mountain shadows.

The 12th in Karond Kar and the 21st and all new recruits in Har Ganeth are being sent for. Expect troop transports from the Black Ark Blade of Khaine under the command of Lady Jhaelrhyna. I have been given assurances that Slaanesh worshippers will be given safe passage as long as they are not insurrectionists. However, they are being paid to retrieve you, not to rescue you. You must make your way through any resistance to rendezvous with the transport ships.

I need not remind you that all Black Lotus troops are considered heretics by both extremist factions and there is the strong possibility of other enemies in our lands. The way will be dangerous, but I must stress that you are NOT to engage unless there is no alternative or you are specifically ordered to do so. We must first consolidate our strength with our adversaries unaware.

The gods did not give us this foolish civil war. It is the war of the two titanic egos of Hellebron and Morathi. We are merely swept up in the whirlwind. But through it all we must remember the destiny of the Druchii. When we are once again the rightful masters of the world, then both gods will take their place at our sides.

The Black Lotus will survive to see that day. We have proven time and again that we are not weak. Go now.

May your blade stay wet,
Kala

To the attention of General Kala of the Black Lotus Brigade

Greetings General. I have reports of a small fleet of Asur ships flocking to Arnhiem, preparing to reinforce the Asur already there, and push forward to the Shadow gate. My spies tell me it includes valuble supplies, and critical equipment for completion of the Shadow Gate.

I have dispatched a fotilla to deal with this lightly armoured fleet. Outnumbering the Asur, they should have no difficulty in dealing with them. This may set back the Asur offensive for the time being.

I also request information on my ships sent to you. I have not heard from the Fleet Captain, and require information on their whereabouts, and current actions.

Keeping you informed,

I have received bitter news from the 12th in Karond Kar. While attempting to reach the longboats that would take them to their transports they were attacked by fellow Druchii. There were very few survivors.

It seems they were assaulted by a battery of four Reapers and a large and well organized group of Dark Riders. The enemy was led by a coven of four sorceresses who were obviously (and curiously) Khainite loyalists. Shouts of "heretic", "traitor" and "unworthy of Khaine" were overheard in the heat of battle.

The nature of the attack suggests an orchestrated ambush. Reaper batteries don't simply place themselves. This was set up. But by whom? Any why attack troops that were redeploying to defend against the Asur incursion? This smacks of fanatacism. Or worse yet, an unknown vendetta. I must send more spies to Karond Kar.

Nevertheless, the positive news is that my Hydra and his handlers were taken by a separate path and are now aboard a transport ship. May a thousand dark blessings be cast upon their voyage.

This civil war is well and truly begun. Druchii attack Druchii and our leaders call it the will of the gods. Has the whole of Naggaroth gone mad?

To Jhaelrnya Do'kahn, General of the Ever Victorious Dark Host, Commander of the Black Ark Blade of Khaine

Greetings,

Word has reached me from my 12th Division at Karond Kar. They have been attacked and nearly decimated. The well prepared nature of the attack leads me to suspect a premeditated attempt to eradicate the units and not just a random skirmish. As a result, the first troop transport at Karond Kar will not be needed and may be recalled at your leisure. The second troop transport has been loaded with my newly trained Hydra, his handlers, and the survivors of the 12th.

I have yet to hear from the 21st at Har Ganeth. It is likely that they will be in similar grave danger as they make their way to the sea.

Furthermore, I suggest that you send an escort for the transports. My first thought is that this is the work of fanatics. But there is the possibility that this attack may be the harbinger of further venom aimed at my troops or myself personally.

As for the Asur, should any make it past your flotilla you need but send swift word and the Black Lotus will be there to welcome them on the beachhead.

May your blade stay wet,
General Kala Kodai Velari,

To General Kala, Black Lotus Brigade,

May Khaine strike your enemies and may His iron heart ever turn from the cry of the weak.

Our Royal Majesty, Lord of Naggaroth and Imperial Lord of the Ancient Homeland, has heard of your doubts about his wisdom. This does not please my weary ears. Long have I followed the Dark Sorceror and I have witnessed the enduring wisdom of his ways. Truly, I say to you, that were it not for your zealous and rapid response to the threat of the infidels, your heart would be feeding the pure pyres of Naggarond now.

However, that aside, I am not pleased to hear that your troops suffered an unmerciless ambush. The sacrifice of our common soldiers is not to be taken lightly. I expect to hear better news from you in the next few weeks, or may your name be cursed by your own mother.

May you carry your shield or may your shield carry you as you return from battle, ever seek the death of a champion.

Venerable Lord Kala

I have received your message just as I was about to sail into the docks of Karond Kar. Even though I have been absent from the court for far too long due to my recent raiding mission in the lands that are known as Brettonia, some of the unpleasant rumours have still reached me even in that remote part of the world. At first I took such information as a distasteful joke, for how could such an event take place under the iron grip of our Lord Malekith. But me being the person who dissmises nothing likely, I have chosen to consult two senior adepts of the sorceresses covens currently in service on the Void Stalker (my Black Ark),Menelthrai Shob and Kintsheth Shob, and for the first time in my life their answer terrified me. Naggaroth was brewing with malcontent and another power was growing in our homeland, which could destroy everything my revered ancestors and I have fought so hard against. I suspected that such an event might take place in some distant future and I have taken measures to prepare my house for those dark times. On my orders my eldest son Serath Lathanast was sent to train and learn under the watchful eye of the Lord Dranack, the overseer of the Watch Towers. There was no better place where he could learn everything on our ever-present danger. But since this event took place long before I suspected it might occur I fear that next generation of my house will not be fully prepared to face the challenges of the times that come. Although my blood runes through his veins, his youth (mere 250 years) and his lack of patience might be his undoing.
After all the formalities in Karond Kar, and my brief visit to the court are finished I will have to set sail again. Since part of my force serves under my son and the tight schedule that is imposed on me, I will not be able to muster all of my forces. But loyalty and enthusiasm of my men will have to outweigh our lack of numbers. There are many places where our presence could help to stem to storm that is upon us, but in my opinion it is the Arnheim, where the true danger lies. We will all have to put our faith in Lord Dranack (and my son) to try to stop the inevitable incursions from the north while we try to eliminate or at least try to delay the Asur threat.
I share your concerns on the blindness of the court in these turbulent times. Just as we were beginning to catch up with our misguided brethren, both numerically and in strength, the destiny has yet again stepped in to foil our plans of reclamation of our homeland. I have faced many dangers in my lifetime but none has terrified me more than the possibility of the demise of our proud nation. Have all of my ancestors fallen for nothing? Shall I be the last of my house? But this is no time for such dark thoughts. Despite my doubts my family has allways been loyal to our Lord and I will not be the first of my line to break this long standing tradition. When you receive my replay I will be already sailing to the prearranged meeting point. Although my fleet is not as strong or as large as it could have been in the optimal circumstances, have no doubt that I will contribute my part to our common cause. The only thing that brings me joy at this moment is that I might yet again run into fleet of Sea Lord Aislin who has given me quite a few troubles on the northern coast of Brettonia.

Untill we meet again in a few weeks time, yours truly

To Dread Lord Grias Thornblood, Chosen of His Most Sublime Majesty Malekith the Dark

Greetings and Salutations,

I have received your notice that the imperial eye has cast itself upon myself and my doubts. I write to assure both yourself and His Majesty that, despite my very legitimate and well-documented concerns, I am still a dedicated servant of the Black Throne. It has been my experience that the most loyal vassal is the one that will warn you before you place your boot into cold one droppings. Please inform His Majesty that he is undoubtedly the one true heir to the throne of Ulthuan and thus eternally my liege. Should he wish to guide the hand of the Black Lotus, he need but ask and his will shall be done.

As for myself and the next few weeks, Lord Thornblood, my stratagems will be made plain. I save my own blood for a greater cause.

A thousand and one dark blessings upon you and your house,
General Kala Kodai Velari

To Lord Aachil Lathanast Oribhein, Captain of the Black Ark Void Stalker

Greetings,

Allow me to be the first to welcome you back from your raids. I sincerely hope that your slave pens and coffers are full with the bounty of the old world.

Alas, I regret that I must confirm the divinations of the sisters Shob. The Queen Mother has revealed her long suspected place as master of the Cult of Slaanesh. Of course Hellebron had an immediate conniption and their civil war is upon us.

I feel compelled to warn you in regards to your son. One of my divisions departing Karond Kar was attacked and badly beaten by an unknown and well-planned Druchii ambush. Even our own kind may be at his throat. Or worse, he may be enticed by the fundamentalist cultists of both sects. I suggest you send warning to him and to Lord Dranack (who I believe I had the pleasure of serving with as a trainee warrior).

As for the Asur, you are again correct. The fields and forests of Arnheim are brimming with our hated cousins seeking to undermine the Wrath Gate and install their own counter-fortification. I am mustering my forces to attend to them. They currently seem unaware that we know of their plans and I intend to keep it as such until we strike. It is my intent to skirt the incursion force and besiege the citadel of Arnheim itself once my troops are fully recalled. If we can cut off the supply lines to the Asur field troops then I suspect that we can harvest them at leisure. Arnheim itself is a layered city with many ring walls. It will be a difficult siege. Blockades and amphibious attacks will be essential, neither of which the Black Lotus can provide.

I am enclosing for you a letter of recommendation to one Lady Jhaelrhyna, Adjunct to Dread Lord Reulranath, Commander of the Black Ark Blade of Khaine. She has recently moved some of my troops on her ships and may yet show herself to be a trustworthy ally. Your combined fleets may prove strong enough to overcome enemies that would otherwise see you sleeping in the deep.

I look forward to our meeting.

May mists ever shroud your ships,
General Kala Kodai Velari

General Kala,

May your raiding find success and a slave cry to Khaine every morning.

I am troubled by your doubts of our King, but I assure you He knows where all your loyalties may or may not lie.

I bring you glad tidings, however. Early this morning we found a small raiding party of Asur encamped within the reaches of the Wrath Gate. We toyed with them for hours, striking them down from behind stones and other ambushades as we led them closer to our cunning trap. Having brought them within our grasp, they believing that they had us running from their numbers, we released our trap.

Delighted you would have been to see the Asur crushed from both sides as they rushed forwards into the tunnels. For our noble Cold One Knights plunged into each of their flanks crushing them like a nut between two rocks. The remaining fled, but I assure you that none remained alive that day. I myself decaptitated their mewling Prince as he begged for mercy. I can still hear his pathetic cries.

I shall be returning his head to Arnhelm, I trust his horse knows the way. I encourage you to join me here, but take note: there is something cursed arising in the North. The swarming bands of Chaos have been encouraged, I fear, by those Slaaneshi infidels and will make trouble for our rightful war against the Asur.

May your sword never be sheathed while an Asur yet breathes,

General Kala,

I've just returned from another successfull raid in Cathay, and, although I was pleased to see that the slave prices are going up, I was displeased to see our country ravaged by petty bickering of Slaanesh's followers. However, as a true Druchii, I'll never forget what my duty is. My army is moving to protect Wrath Gate from the asur scum. And if they think they can dirty the land of Naggaroth with their feet, they're direly mistaken. Recently, my scouts brought news of an asur army moving in our direction, led by some asur named Sarroir, one of Enthardon's dogs. Although his name should be of no concern to you as I'll be most happy to feed him to my beasts really soon. I'll meet the asur in the Shadow Valley of Kar'Katoth, near the Wrath Gate.
No asur scum will step on the Druchii land ever again, and I can already see our armies mounting a counter attack on Arnheim.

Hail Malekith and death to the Asur!

Commander of Svar'Rath Ravagers.

May Anglachel of House Urz be damned to the deepest pits of Nurgle's backside! One of his shades has just arrived on horseback without the company of its body! It was, however, accompanied by a note from that bloody Asur prince mocking me. MOCKING!

This is the second time the scion of House Urz has displayed his foolishness. Shades simply do not show themselves. He undoubtedly deployed the scouts too close to the city wall of Arnheim. This after I specifically gave orders for extremes of caution and stealth. Now the Asur know of our surveillance and likely have fathomed my intent.

I have sent for Lord Anglachel. The incident with the steam tank is still fresh in my memory and I will NOT abide by ineptitude. When he arrives unawares, he will be clapped in irons. I will then notify him that I have sold his children to the slavers. I will make him watch as I throw his wife into the Cold One pens. Then I will kill him myself.

Still, all is not ill news. Dread Lord Thornblood and Lord Svar'Rath both have taken up positions near Wrath Gate. The Black Lotus 1st Division are likely less than a day's ride from both. Lord Thornblood has even apparently introduced a few of our cousins to the business end of his Kheitain. I am eager to follow his example.

But even the joy of disposing of Lord Urz will not put me at ease. I grow concerned about how my Slaaneshi divisions will be received when they arrive. Though they are all unwaveringly loyal to me, I fear they will be taken as ravagers and infidels. I know my Brides of Khaine and Assassins will not hold them accountable for Morathi's lust for power. Yet mine is an odd army in the Druchii forces. The daemons are bound by my sorceresses can be dispelled at will and I will have nothing of the human chaos warriors (they smell like a latrine trench). But I have concern for my Annointed and my Devoted. They are still Druchii and are true to Naggaroth. Will Naggaroth be true to them?

I am vexed. I will now go and kill a few slaves with my bare hands. I need the exercise.

General Kala,

I hope you realise your armies doesn't stand a chance against the might of the asur. As you are reading this, My army is protecting Arnheim against your weak minions. Turn back now as I speak, or your entire army will be butchered.

I you want to claim the heads of your first wave of attack, why don't you come to Arnheim to claim them yourself. I am waiting for your arrival. If you dare, off course.

Lord Nachri, Champion of Eataine.
I hope the druchii don't think they can stand a chance against the combined power of the high elf provinces.

To General Kala Kodai Velari Commander, Black Lotus Brigade

It enrages me to hear that your forces were attacked by our own kin. And Kahinite loyalists! The Dread Lord is extreamly displeased. He urges me to divert my effort into finding out who was behind that attack, but I have convinced him your more than capable of doing that yourself. He sends his promise that if you require additional forces, he will send aspects of his own fleet to aid you.

As for the first and second transport groups, I will send them orders that you are to be obyed. I give command of them over to you for the time being. Do with them as you please. I have dispatched escort vessals for the remianing transports. With the combined fleets fo myself and the Dread Lord, I have no need of them at the moment.

As for the Asur, no word has reached me as of the outcome of the naval assault. They are not overdue yet, however. If all goes well, word should reach me within days of their sucess.

I have recieved your letter, saying one Aachil Lathanast Oribhein, Master of the Black Ark Void Stalker, is to be approached. I have dispatched a missive, vieing for an alliance. If fate smiles on us, we shall have another fleet to crush the Asur scum. If we can bring in a few more fleets, we may be able to sucessfully blockade Arnhiem. Aislinn will be no match for a thousand Druchii vessals.

I have sent my sister, Jerlys, Lady fo Frost, to the North. there, she will aid Lord Drannack in the defense of the northern borders. The barbarians there fear her, and her name has been enough to send bands of them running. Hopefully, it may cause a few warbands to give second thought, and think maybe the divided realm is not so easy to attack. It will aslo keep any humans from the land of Kislev away, as they still use her name to frighten children.

Keeping ever vigilent,

One gains such sublime wisdom from choking the life out of a hated enemy, even if they are just a slave. As I slowly strangled the hapless human, I recalled an old human saying – “We mock what we fear”. I suspect that such flashes of inspiration during a kill are why the gods demand blood sacrifice.

When Prince Enthardon sent me the note on the Shade's head I was enraged. When the second taunting note from a commander within Arnheim itself arrived the situation clarified in my mind. They mock what they fear. Thus they further display their inherent weakness.

Not that my revelation will save Lord Urz.

My sublime mood is further boosted by the lovely Caledorian brandy that I took from the Asur supply wagons that I raided this afternoon. I have sent a battle report to His Majesty, as I am immensely proud of my unequivocal victory.

I have also returned a bottle of the brandy to Prince Enthardon and Lord Nachri with my compliments and a few drops of black lotus extract for flavor.

Special Dispatch to all Druchii naval vessels operating in and around the Bleak Coast

Greetings and Salutations,

The Black Lotus 1st Division recently captured a supply convoy supporting the Asur forces stationed in the fields and forests surrounding Arnheim. Interrogation of one of the survivors has yielded a possibly exploitable weakness in the naval deployment of the Asur supply chain. Supplies from Ulthuan pass the main part of the journey under heavy escort. But the last few hours sail is left unescorted due to the heavy amount of merchant navy traffic. This leaves a window of opportunity for light raiding craft to intercept and board the supply ships.

The Asur are not stupid and will rectify this foolish mistake once it is realized. I suggest that any naval force available take advantage of this opportunity while it is open.

May mists ever shroud your ships,

General Kala,

Word of your victory reaches me here in Karond Kar. I am currently sorting through a new collection of vanquished rebellious slaves, imported by the Cult of Slaanesh during their failed assault on Lustria. This human fodder may prove useless as they seem to take pleasure from the whips of the Beastmasters, however, like anything that crawls or flies, the Beastmasters will break them. Of that I am sure.

I am pleased to hear that you have successfully assassinated an Asur archmage. Such a feat has not gone unoticed by the Dark Lord. One can only wish to see the look in the eyes of that mage as the knife passed into his gullet.

Take comfort, we shall join you soon.

May the blessings of Khaine be ever in your wake,

Dread Lord Grias Thornblood,

General Kala,

Today is the great day indeed, for my army is victorious over the foul asur. There were no survivors among the asur. Please accept Prince Sarroir's head as a token of my appreciation for your leadership. Hope it makes a fine decoration for your hall. Sadly, there're losses in my army as well. It was a hard battle indeed... We met the asur cavalry in the Shadow Valley of Kar'Katoth, near the Wrath Gate... they were fast, numerous and guileful... But it was an ancient hatred burning inside the dark hearts of my warriors and the fury of my beasts that saved the day... Young lord Delevar was treacherously slain by Sarroir himself... Although the yound fool deserved it. That's what happens when you accept so-called 'chalenges' from the asur unaware of their dirty tricks they have up their sleeves... But the fact that angered me the most was the death of Gara, my beloved Veteran Hydra, a personal present from Lord Rakarth! How could they slaughter my precious pet? I swear to pay one hundred asur lives for her death! Oh where can I find another such good specimen these days? Anyway, today is the day of great victory, and my army's Cauldron is full of fresh boiling blood of the asur... A most pleasing smell indeed... Today we celebrate, and tomorrow we'll be heading to Karrond Kar for reinforcements and to help to protect the city from Chaos marauders as well.

May Khaine lead us to victory!

Lord Svar'Rath of Karrond Kar,
Commander of Svar'Rath Ravagers.

To Lord Svar'Rath of Karrond Kar, Commander of Svar'Rath Ravagers

Greeting and Congratulations,

Your victory bestows honor upon your house and your name. A group of my scouts actually viewed the battle from the cliffs above. I was informed of your valor even as your letter arrived. Do not grieve for your dead. Their blood washes clean the soil of Naggaroth.

The head of the Asur prince will be bleached and your house rune etched in gold in the forehead. It will have an inscription reading “Sarroir, Asur Prince. Killed By Lord Svar’Rath”. It will be mounted in the trophy hall of Velari Keep, so that your name and glory will be known through the ages.

But do not let your victory blind you to other dangers. The way to Karond Kar is not safe by any means. Other Asur are still in the foothills. Skaven and Dwarf have been reported in the underway. The north is a veritable storm of bloodshed as the two cults clash. Your own kin may come for you with weapons drawn and no reason left in their eyes.

I am enclosing a letter of introduction to a Beastmaster in Karond Kar named Thufir Dohr. Though it could not possibly mach a gift from Lord Rakarth, his hydra pens come highly recommended. They are where my new beast was purchased. He is an exceptionally repulsive individual but his prices are reasonable and his animals are thoroughly broken and trained for battle. Ask for a demonstration. It is most entertaining.

I have also enclosed a bottle of fine Caledorian brandy that captured myself. Toast your victory for me.

May your blade stay wet,
General Kala Kodai Velari
Commander, Black Lotus Brigade

It has been quiet for a few days now. Aside from Svar’Raths’s well-fought battle, the Asur have been doing little but scouting my positions. If there is no conflict in the next several days, then I may consider a more aggressive stance. I can see encampment fires at night from the high tower. My sword arm is literally itching with anticipation.

I have yet to hear from the transport ship carrying the 21st. There hasn’t even been word of them being taken on board. No message from the ship, none from the unit. Nothing. I am hesitant to respond to Jhaelrhyna until they are accounted for. I will save her a bottle of brandy for her trouble.

The ship with my hydra has at least made it into the Underway. It should be only a week or so away. I am anxious to take possession of it. It is an unusual breed and very aggressive against its targets. I still recall the way it dismembered the captured Gryphon when Thufir Dohr provided me with a demonstration. It was poetry in blood and scales.

The 5th and the 7th in the southern reaches are having difficulties advancing north. Since the 5th is Khainite and the 7th is Slaaneshi, both cults are waylaying them. Add to that the Lizards and the Undead of two varieties and we have five full armies that are screaming for our heads.

The gift of Prince Sarroir’s skull has cast my remembrance back to home. Velari Keep is relatively out of the way near the Ironfrost Glacier. But the proximity of the Altar of Ultimate Darkness may bring it to attention and put it in jeopardy. The bound demon in the gate and the Spell of Shimmering Ice have kept it secure since the Sundering. Morathi’s cult wouldn’t touch it, but I do not trust mortal Chaos. A wizard of Tzeench might be able to unlock the magical barriers. I may need to send a division to garrison there.

The proximity of the Asur tempts me. I am sure they wish to draw me out. But a weakness will present itself. Countless times I have baited my enemies into traps on the battlefield. I must resist the urge to take the bait presented to me until I can ensure that I will wriggle off the hook.

Missive from Outpost Crag, fourth along the south cliffs:

General Kala, we have recently encountered a large division of demons near our coordinates. As we were outnumbered, we attempted to evade. However, one of the monstrosities seemed to have a keen sense of smell, as it led the demons right to our base encampment without error. Before we could fire upon them, a dark elven flag of parlay was raised by them. I went forth under the flag of truce, and met with a Dark Elven Sorceress who called herself “Lady Xaniphera”. She claims that she is here to assist in the battles around Arnheim, and wishes to ally. I have sent her letter of introduction. On a side note, my Lord, I saw that she had an unusual companion with her. I believe that perhaps he is one of the Annointed. Please respond with how we should proceed.

Head Scout My’aalar

Greetings to the Esteemed General Kala,

My name is Lady Xaniphera. I have recently returned from extensive fighting to the South in the jungles of Lustria. Though my actions were victorious, I was withdrawn in order to help bolster the forces near Wrathgate. In my haste, I was only able to bring one trusty lieutenant with me. The rest of my armies are withdrawing through the southern passes and will not soon reach here.
I have no official orders to show you, though I am sure you know who I represent. I require more stable forces than the Demonic host I have summoned, both for defensive and scouting purposes. If cost is an issue, I have high elf slaves for trade, as I have encountered one of their expeditionary forces already.
I must warn you that many foul forces are afoot within Naggoroth. The Temples of Khaine grab for power that is not there. If you are not careful, I am sure that they will attempt to ensnare you into their power grab. I offer you my support and alliance in such troubled times. Though I am sure with your extensive legions you have many sycophants clamoring for your attention, do not confuse me with one of them. Perhaps you wish to meet me in person to discuss my proposals. I shall maintain contact with this outpost until I receive a reply.

Lady Xaniphera,
High Sorceress of the Cult

General Kala Kodai Velari Commander, Black Lotus Brigade,

Greetings General from Har Ganeth

Your forces which have for sometime been assembling around the city of Har Ganeth were Collected during the dawn of the 4th and are currently, i presume heading for the Bleak Coast to beseige the Asur at Armheim. i have already sent my own forces south to assist Lady Jhaelrnya commanding Black Ark Blade of Khaine.

Soon after Lady Jhaelrnya's transports had departed with your Warriors, i ordered my own fleet of transports, transporting the 9th and 21st leigions of Har Ganeth to sail with the black ark Spear of Khaine. after Lady Jhaelrnya's transports and join them so that a vast armada of ships was created. all of these are now on route to the Bleak Coast.

Consider this as an offer of alliance and reasurance that your warriors are safe.

i hope this dark rider finds you promptly if not you have my permission to flay him.

Regards
Khael Vraneth, Reagent of Har Ganeth, 3rd son of Kurl Vraneth, Lord Executioner, Slayer of Asur, etc.

Great Lord General Kala

I have recently returned from the Old World and the events now known as the Strom of Chaos (may Archaon’s soul be consumed by fire). The disasters of that war are now published and known by most Highborn. What may not be so well known is that alliances created in that war will soon spill out upon the Land of Chill.

The Bearded Ones put away their enmity with the Asur for a moment, that now looks to last longer then that war. Certain Bearded Lords have entered into an alliance with certain Asur Lords and even now Iron ships sail for the Land of Chill with Asur pilots to guide them.

But of equal concern is that a Bretonnian Baron has sworn his Errantry Army to the service of the Asur here! I will provide more information later if I can continue to keep my presence hidden from the Asur and Bretonnians.
