Using Flash for Battle Reports/Head-To-Heads

Post by Keilah »

Just a thought, idunno how hard it is to make flash movies. When people make BR's or play head-to-heads, they could animate the things with a little flash movie, thus letting us watch the game unfold without having to use much (gasp) ImaGiNatIoN! I think it's not a bad idea =p

As I believe this is my first post, I'd like to say hi to everyone, and that this is a really great site! Other races should be so lucky^^

As long as people host it on their own webspace (I suspect the admins would want links like they do with images) and know how to program in flash (sticking point, potentially...), I don't think people would say no.

Turn by turn photos or pictures are probably just as valid :).

Welcome, though.

The way we try to get our BatRep writers of the Monthly to do, is to have one image of the battlefield, and then add on images for the units after each turn. That way you can see any movements, and also see how the entire field looks like. Having 6 images with the same background and just letting the units change position is my choice. Flash takes too long time to do and too much space to host. Simple images will be enough IMHO.

You might want to take a look at http://battlereports.net/ . There's quite a neat program available for download there, with which you can create and view animated battle reports.

Did you check the link? battlereports.net and .com are very different sites.

I run World of Arl, every turn the campaign map needs to be updated, I have written a program to solve that, less than a Meg to download, free to use and really really quick to update from a website (just host a file that it reads from, less than 4kb). I really would be happy for you to use it.

I've used flash for writing battlereports a few times.
Not as animated movies, but to make the images for the battle field, round by round, and then put them into a LaTeX document (as .eps format, ofcourse). It's not particularly hard, and you don't really have to "program flash to get a useful result, atleast not that I've noticed.
Unit strengths and bases are covered here.
Updates are here.
